Because this happened to me I feel obliged to share it. The door frame pull up bar WILL eventually break your door (unless its metal). Over time it will slowly but surely pry that top frame, where the plastic bar sits, off the door. Mine upheld for hundreds of pull ups but eventually, snap, and your on your way to fix your door frame. For the ones who might not believe me; if you have a door frame pull up bar like he showed feel the wood piece of the frame on the door you use it on and you'll feel with your fingers the space its making over time.

On the other hand i have the model he said not to buy. And i gotta say its not for weak door frames either. If you want the bar to be secrured you will have to tighten it so much that you will hear the door frame scream in agony. Good for concrete/brics not so much for woodenf doorframes.

4:00 you gotta put a piece of scrapwood on either side, so that you can screw the pullupbar very tight, letting it dig into the wood without harming your doorfame. You can also nail a bit of rubber on the sides of the wood that are facing the doorframe, for more protection and friction.

I started off with that doorway pull-up bar but upgraded to the KHANH TRINH stand-alone pullup bar from Amazon and slapped a set of rings on there and hoh-lee-sheeit was that a game changer! Never had a chest before, then I discovered RTO pushups and proper form and now my chest is blowing up like crazy. Also purchased a dip belt and started doing 5-lbs, then 10-lbs then 15-lbs and progressive overload in the 6-10 rep range for a majority of my movements is sculpting me into a greek god. I was amazed to find out how warm wrist bands can keep your body - I used them for martial arts training in colder weather. They helped me conserve heat as I warmed up without using clothing that would warm excessively and get wet with sweat. If my body got too warm as I worked out I could of course easily take them off. They work this way in civilian wear too. Warmth without bulk or excessive clothing!

3:16, one thing i found about that pull up bar, it can kinda be like parallettes too, to help you train plances and stuff, like a really small low parallettes. You just put it on the floor and tilit it up side down as compared to how you put it on your doorframe. The downside is that the handles are curved. THere's even like foam support/grip thingyies on the spot where it could function as a "parrallete."

I have a pullup bar similar to the extending one, but it has mounts you screw into the door frame so that it is actually secured rather than relying on tension alone. With that in mind, there are two different kinds that mount like that that might bear considering based on your situation. My current one is in the doorway to my garage. The door frame was constructed in such a way that the one that screws and extends for outward pressure was actually pushing the door frame apart enough that I didn't trust it. I have another one that slides to extend, but the mounting brackets are hex shaped and the ends slide down into them. This one was better because any tension on the bar pulls inward rather than pushes outward. The other benefit with his one is the bar does not rotate and affect your grip like the other one could. So something worth considering if you have a doorway where you can screw in the mounts without worrying about the holes left behind like in an apartment.

I have one of those screw in pull up bars and it has lasted me over 2 years no problem. I've done pull ups, push ups, nordics, skin the cats, weighted pull ups, clapping pull ups and they have not budged one bit. The key with them is to screw it as tight as humanly possible. They're really helpful for people who don't have door frame ledges. If any of ya'll are on the fence with buying one i highly recommend you do as in my experience they are 100X more useful than the ones that just hang on ur door frame.

One thing you might try is competition straps for the rings off a pull-up bar. Not good for uneven attachment points but way easier and consistent off something like a straight bar. I regularly use it for inverted rows, face pulls, and leg curls. For unweighted dips I recommend a walker from goodwill. Not 100% about heavy weighted dips or other movements.

Hey Colin! Great video. I was wondering how do you split your calisthenics technique training (learning how to do X) and your strength training (getting stronger so learning X gets easier) throughout the week? I used to work out for body building gains but now that I've gotten into calisthenics, I find myself practicing handstands more often than strength training - to the point where I'm too exhausted to strength train as much as I used to. For example I used to do PPLPPL every week with each session being around an hour. Now that I'm trying to learn the handstand, a day is now 30 minutes handstands and 30 minutes PPL. How do you split your time to do both to actually keep your gains and learn skills at the same time?

4:00 I have a similar screw on pull-up bar that I've been using for some time, and from what I've discovered, it works if you make one end of it a tiny bit higher than the other, and keep screwing until it's impossible to do more. Like, you'd have to use your pushing strength if you can. You also can't just start it however, you have to make sure not to swing too much. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle to go through for something with questionable safety, but that's the best I could find for cheap where I live, and it's serving its purpose, so I don't mind.

Good video. Those pull up bars to put in your door frame work. But you need to have a really sturdy door frame. When my gf and me lived in a college dorm, those were working fantastically. Now we own an old farm house and the frames aren't tough enough for the bar. But there's plenty of space so I got myself a used squat rack with a bar.

the screw-out-end pull up bar only works if: 1) you bridge across two door frames in a hallway or corridor, or 2) you drill out two snug recesses for the end parts in the door frame (use a spade bit)

There are some between the door pull up bars that can screw into the door. Been hanging in my door for 2 years now! The top of my door frame isn't strong enough for those you can hang from it

Looking at the wrist wraps, I'm thinking they could be useful for someone like me. I'm running 200lbs, with about 50 of those being excess fat, and I'm just trying to get back into fitness after about a decade of mostly sedentary life. First thing you notice exercising in this kind of condition is the joint problems. It's like jumping right into weighted exercises without so much as a warmup. Those wraps and similar products would be nice additions while I got everything back into balance. But I just have a cheap-ish gym membership with assist machines. Sub-optimal, but so are the wraps.

I have a similar pull-up bar, and it came with mounts that I screwed in. It is safe, but for my taste its abit low. Also your door frame have to be installed right or you damage your door frame while using it. Good as a spare, rings are number one :)

Great video!💪 Side note from our side. Only the Medium Parallettes are supplied unassembled, and only in the USA and Canada. This reduces the shipping costs considerably. In all other countries, they are delivered already assembled and balanced. ✌
