Ya know, I just realized that The Rookie is Halo's only, truly silent protagonist in the games aside from Fireteam Crimson. Chief, Arbiter, Locke, both Blue Team and Osiris, and hell even Noble Six talk at some point in the games, either during gameplay or cutscenes. But The Rookie never once says anything...
@B3P_2 жыл бұрын
"The Rookie was sadly killed by insurrectionists in 2554. Alpha-Nine (the ODST squad from Halo 3: ODST) was sent in to deal with the situation. During an encounter, the Rookie was captured and executed by the insurrectionist leader." - What a waste I should add, imagine going through all that just to get killed by insurrectionist lol
@ratoz81272 жыл бұрын
@@B3P_ I don't understand why that decision was made, there was literally no point at all in killing him. In fact, the Rookie is dlc material, could have made 343 a lot of money for a sequel to ODST.

Just grunts from jumping or being damaged, but I mean I wouldn’t really make much sense for him to speak when In the open city hub area, since it was only him, which was intentional, they wanted a halo 3 odst to have a unique atmosphere, and if the rookie were talking.. it would kind of ruin it.
@kabob00772 жыл бұрын
@@_X1M_ Even when he links up with Dare and Buck he still doesn't talk, sure he and Vergil/Quick to Adjust seem to communicate in body language but other than that nothing. I'm not complaining I'm just saying that The Rookie is literally the only playable character (Baring Fireteam Crimson who is our MP Spartans and is another can of worms) in the games we NEVER hear speak.

Even when Bungie churned out a cheaply made overpriced asset flip like this, it was still a top quality experience with a completely unique atmosphere and campaign. I honestly woudlnt have minded if they just did cheap asset flips like this for Halo reach too if they were this quality, i guess so long as Microsoft didnt force them to slap on a $60 price tag like they did with ODST. And thats a other thing 343 and Microsoft missed, is that we were content with Master Chiefs story just being a trilogy of games and a few books. We didnt need a bunch of convoluted big name sequels to play halo. Odst Reach and even halo wars are proof of that. There are 20+ years of the covenant war and we know as fans that theres a gold mine lf stories to be told there. Let the Chief rest, hes earned it.

Mild hot take, ODST’s campaign is better than Halo: Reach’s. ODST really gave a more depressive and lost feeling. It also avoided the “prequel problem”, in which you’d just *know* how it would end. But it kept you guessing, and kept you engaged through and through. Each character was likeable, and it gave you time to actually care about them. It immersed you as a regular soldier, fighting in an abandoned city set in the future, while an alien force scours for survivors. All the while, you get clues on your squad’s whereabouts, as the city’s superintendent guides you. Reach took until act 2 to get good, and after that it was over, and then back to “meh”. Ironically, the “spartan squad” aspect should’ve been ditched entirely. Imagine if you were just a lone spartan, joining random squads of marines or ODST. Seeing how much hope you give them, and seeing how heartbreaking it is to see them get slaughtered. It would’ve left you wondering if you were truly a beacon of hope that led unlucky individuals, or some bringer of death, to your enemies and your allies. Would have made the final scene more impactful. Maybe Noble 6 (you) finally figured it out; maybe, you gave that luck and hope so the Pillar of Autumn could escape. I couldn’t care about Kat, Carter, or Jun; mildly cared about Jorge and Emile. To be honest, the game suffered the “prequel problem” as we knew how it was going to end, and Bungie didn’t really do anything to make the inevitable impactful.
