ADDITIVES: Oh, the confusion, the controversy, the hurt feelings! This is one of the most contentious subjects in the Melt & Pour Soap Making World! "You can't add this", "You should add that", "Don't add anything, ever!" I really, really dislike arguments and controversy. I'm not going to be "The Soap Police" but we are going to dive into these treacherous waters. This video is the first in a Playlist/Series dealing with this hot button topic.
Follow my channel to learn the basics, improve standard glycerin soap skills, plus up your MP game with unique techniques I use in my Art Soaps, and experiment with me as I push the boundaries.

QUICK NOTES! Adding a lot of salt WILL cause your soap to set faster, just keep that in mind. ALSO both sugar and salt can make your bars a bit harder, which I find to be a real benefit. Sorry I forgot these 2 important details in my voiceover! 🙄

Another great informative video. I can't tell you how much i enjoy them. Do you think i could add some goat milk to my melt and pour to see if there is a difference, i know it can be bought with it included but dont know if it would be different lather to add pure goat milk in .Thank you for all videos and the hard work editing them its very much appreciated.

Thank you, Angie- I am so glad you are enjoying the videos! I would strongly suggest NOT adding goat milk, as it will rot, unless you are creating Cold Process or Hot Process Soap. It has to be added during the saponification process, which it is done for you in Melt and Pour Bases. Great question, though. Thank you for recognizing and appreciating the hard work. It is fun, but it is definitely time consuming! ❤😘

Do you add the sugar and salt for an exfoliant? What's the difference in these versus embedding a loofah? Or a sugar scrub using Dawn dish soap and sugar or salt?
@msTsoap
@msTsoap Жыл бұрын
Great question! As I mention in the video, the lather feel is amazing, and many people like the foamy, non-drying lather for shaving or a spa-like experience for daily use. It also will harden a soap bar, so if your base typically sets up too soft, as some do, it can make your soap harder and therefore last longer. It is quite exfoliating if you don't melt it in, yet still mildly exfoliating when you do melt it in. Some sensitive skin cannot take the harshness of a loofah- I can only use those on my feet and still have to be careful. I would never use Dawn in a sugar or salt scrub, it is quite harsh on most skin and will really dry out your skin, as it is designed to remove oil and will remove too much. Without making claims on my soaps, even though I label them under cosmetic labeling requirements, sugar releases lactic acid, creates a more luxurious lather, and is considered a humectant which attracts moisture to the skin. Sea Salt Soap is known for superior cleansing properties, releasing many minerals as the salt breaks down, and is quite exfoliating, among other benefits. All you have to do is google "benefits of salt soaps" to find more info. Hope this helps! 🙂

Thanks for this video! I have never tried either salt or sugar in my soaps, so this is new, and kind of intriguing to me! Does the salt one do anything to cut grease from the skin ? (Not skin oils, but things like cooking oil or baby oil?) Also, could either be used to provide enough visual texture for something like sand in an art soap? I have tried ground flax seed and walnut hull, and both were uncomfortably scratchy, though they looked nice.

Yes, it can cut through oil a bit, but keep in mind if there is oil involved, you will still likely have to lather twice, and the oil will compromise the lather, especially on the first wash. I always wipe my hands off with a paper towel first, if there is a lot of oil. You can use it for visual texture, but maybe try a fine grain Himalayan salt, or fine grain black salt or other salts with color. My favorite way to make "sand" is to use an oatmeal base and add Apricot Seed Powder. The one I use from Wholesale Supplies Plus is very fine grain and rounded, so not too scratchy. You only need a tiny bit to give texture. If you check out my full video on Koi Pond Soaps, it shows my process for making soap sand. Hope this helps! 🙂🥰

It is in the video, but happy to repeat. Sugar Soap:10 oz clear mp soap, 20 oz sugar, color and fragrance to your liking. I used Sparkle Sunshine about 1/2 tsp, and Amber Romance at 1.5% which is .15oz or 4.5 ml. Salt Soap: 12 oz clear mp soap, 1.5 tsp salt, color and fragrance to your liking. I used 1/4 tsp Key West Blue Mica (link in description) and fragranced with Sparkling Mint Blossom BBW dupe from Aztec.

Hi would like to ask why does my sugar and salt melt n pour soap sweating? Thanks
@msTsoap
@msTsoap 4 ай бұрын
@hariettecamps772 I'm just seeing this, my apologies. Salt soaps sweat easier than others, especially if you add too much, or overheat the soap. Try spraying with RA and setting in the open air with a fan directly on them and maybe a dehumidifier. You can wipe off any glycerin dew, but be sure to spray with RA after, the higher the better- 91%-99% is best. Hope that helps, and so sorry for the delayed response.
