Let’s talk about the affects of allowing tube chassis cars into small tire classes and what it means for Small Tire No Prep Racing in the Future

This is my perspective based on my time spent promoting and hosting events. Perception is 9/10ths of reality. Regardless of how I feel about anyone’s cars being in an event, it won’t matter if we lose car count. And, the latest problem facing small tire no prep races, is that there are so many, that it’s hard to get the car counts we used to get 4 years ago. If there’s a big event that’s sponsored and promoted like Dig or Die, I can guarantee eventually someone close to Rockingham will host a pop up race that appears 2 weeks before the big race and takes car count away. It happens every weekend
@TheFalconryJourney2 жыл бұрын
Hit the nail on the head IMO Bill, the draw of no prep has been that lower budgets can be competitive and have a chance, just like how the street was a great equalizer. If big money tube chassis cars start becoming more and more the norm you lose allll those lower budget cars that won't bother to show anymore which make up way more of a car count and car count is what keeps tracks and events alive. I also agree with your point about the number of no prep races hurting more than helping, just the other week before rain screwed up most of Ohio racing in general I think there was three different Ohio tracks let alone neighboring states that had no prep small tire events scheduled including KD. I remember thinking man that's going to kill car count big time at one of these if not all of them. Tracks need to try and schedule around each other best they can instead of stepping on each others toes where everyone loses.

So if I have a c3 corvette with stock firewall, stock engine location and stock floor pans but the rear has been converted from irs to a solid axle with coil overs does that make it illegal for your OG 28 class? I'm not knocking your ruleset just making sure that kind of thing is clarified because there's alot of those IRS cars made to solid axles. Mines mostly for strength purposes anyways because the stock rears in them are kinda junk.
@chancesarahgarner61402 жыл бұрын
Well said i totally agree with you love the video good luck this weekend from springtown TX
@jamiecalder54592 жыл бұрын
Joe Gabner under the rules he mentioned I believe that you wouldn't be allowed to run your Corvette because the stock suspension is i.r.s and you switched it to a solid rear axle which is no longer stock. The rule is stock suspension, not modified suspension. That's just how I interpret it.

@@NosC3vette tube chassis are a huge advantage compared to lexan windows and fiberglass doors his rule set is pretty clear stock sus stock motor placement stock chassis why would a guy who spent 20k for a build want to race a 200k dollar car that he has a 10% chance to beat a best due to spin or a failure ?

Eddie and I would like to thank you for the shout out! We are flattered that you acknowledged how well Murder 88 did. We did what no one else ever thought of doing. We built it because my husband has the talent and capability of fabricating such a vehicle. I'm not sure where everyone gets the "high dollar, money bags, rich, tube chassis team" thoughts from. 🤔 We are a small town, low low dollar family just like the majority of the no prep racers out there, maybe even more so. We have earned every single thing we've worked for. We haven't been given handouts. We don't have a ton of sponsors. We do all of the work OURSELVES out of the family garage. He has bent all the pipe by hand, welded every seam, configured the suspension, and has done all the motor work himself just to name a few. He had put countless hours into learning about Holley engine management, suspension, and everything else involved with that trucks success. All of these things are the same things that any other guy/gal out there has the capability of doing if he/she puts his/her mind to it and has the drive to do so. If you want something bad enough, you'll figure out a way to make it happen. Knowledge is power and when Eddie has that, he is unstoppable. Midnight Madness was always one of our favorite races to attend. At the very last MM of 2019, he made the trip to KD even when he couldn't run because of being broke after the Norwalk race, and I drove 6.5 hours from our home in MD just to be there. As you know, after we were "outlawed" at the end of our 2019 season, we ended up selling the truck. No one could beat Murder 88, so it solely was exiled from just about every East Coast race that we thought of entering towards the end of that season. The "outlaw" class you suggested would have been made solely for Murder 88. Which at that time, and still today, it would have been in a class all on its own. So he figured, if they want to have a set of very strict and specific rules, he's going to build a car that follows all of those said rules. Even though every other person out there has the capability of doing what we did. Murder 88 hurt feelings, and was able to single handedly change the world of small tire no prep forever. That in itself I take as the highest compliment anyone could ever give us. The new build, Annabelle, fits every single rule anyone has out there, and will definitely be faster than the truck ever was. We do want to thank you! Because of you, and everyone else for that matter, he has again outdone himself. Annabelle will be another contender to watch out for, as you've already seen from the DOD 100k event. Good luck on the rest of your season! - Andrea & Eddie Grimes
@momhoskinson28132 жыл бұрын
You two are an awesome team! I have no doubt Eddie in Annabelle will do amazing, it already has! Promoting and making rules/classes was stressful and I’m happy that chapter is behind us and we can just enjoy racing in the event tonight. No pressure. When we first started with PaceMakers cash days, there wasn’t much going on in Ohio. So we are proud to have helped bring attention and grow the sport and now travel and race ourselves without the stress of being in charge. We learned the hard way how divided it can be to make everyone happy. Good luck tonight! See you there! 😊 Vicki 🏁

I agree with you Bill, there needs to be a "true Street" class consisting of unaltered frames real street cars. I hate seeing a tube chassis car or a back half car show up to small tire event. I also believe you will bring more spectators if you can bring back a true street small tire class.

We have a small track out here in California called Kingdom Drags. It was a WW-II Training field originally but after the war a Stockton Police Officer opened up the old air park for a grudge match style of street racing legally. Around 1950's so today it is a Executive Airport for mostly the Agriculture rich in Wine Making here in Lodi and each year we have a special event "Return to Kingdom Drags" Lot's of fun during the 3 day annual event. They bring in close fly by's with P51 Mustangs which was the original purpose of Kingdom air field. They host the Jr. Dragsters and Jet Car out of Merced plus a couple of Funny Cars from Stockton Ralph Panela Racing Team whom seem to be in all sort of racing car events from Le Man's to Nascar.

EVERYTHING changes… EVERYTHING…. Seems the trend in drag racing for sure, nostalgia drag racing was huge early 2000,s, everyone was building straight axle gasser stuff, forming groups, classes, etc… eventually started seeing glorified pro mods with straight axles… just is what it is … hopefully a rule call will slow the progression down and keep the races close… as a person who has currently stepped back to a spectator status, that is HUGE… people wanna see close races… and that is definitely what you get at the moment… do anything that will help keep that..

Chevy at the end, she knew you were talking about her, very funny! Good video also, my local track, closest thing we have to your scene, they qualify top 16 small tire. Bill you are 100% correct! If you have a tube chassis car with a set back engine, then run with others like you. I use to run in a stock class at a 1/2 mile dirt track. When we had big money races we would get out of town cars that were tube chassis and they would kick our asses. It took all the fun out of it.

You have a valid point on tube chassis. In the off seaon, pitch the idea to all of the tracks to get the idea floating. Around 1 Jan to 15 Feb '22 get everyone one board. Get all the owners of hte facilities to work on the ground rules foe these events. No one gets omitted. Then on your page and several others out there get feed back from the drivers. Let's say the stock bodied cars use OG-28 to post and Tube Chassis use S/T Outlaws to post comments. If this takes off you're going to need bigger tracks to run on and the OG-28's will still be small track capable. It should be compatible to the Dig or Die of Rockingham, NC. It will be interesting to see it take on a life of its own.

Like the Alanis Morissette song says”isn’t it ironic” that you talked about Grimes in this vid considering what happened at kd last night. I hate seeing where small tire racing is going… tube chassis 250k cars now. It’s away from its roots. You probably agree. My best friend won stick shift at midnight madness last night and that’s why we run stick. Working folks can still do it. But I hate seeing arguments more than I hate the direction of small tire. My father owned a dirt track and small drag strip in eastern ky my whole life… grew up in it… I could have done either but in drag racing there tends to be less arguing and trouble so it kills me to see that controversy. I never got to talk to you last night but I commend you guys for trying to not make a bad deal worse. You handled it the best way possible and I really respect you and billy both for that. U know… we are racers… but we always need to remember that we are servants of The most high first. Sorry for the long post, thank you for everything you do for our sport Bill. Seth Collins

Absolutely agree with ya!! If they start letting tube guys in then it just kills it for th regular OG street cars that just want to run like they did 40 years or more ago, have some fun and win a pocket full of money. If these guys wanna run, then create a tube class for them but it’s just my opinion that they do not belong in my original hot rod class which they will of course disagree with cause it’s easy money and a win for them. There is nothing at all wrong with their cars, they’ve built some badass cars but the hot rod i built with less than $10k will never ever be able to compete with a car that someone has put $100k into and I really have no desire to ever run those guys cause the only way I’ll ever have a chance at winning anything is if they jump, cross, or break so someone please explain to me where the fun in that is, please, cause I just can’t find it! That would be just like me taking the hottest girl in school out for dinner every Friday and Saturday nights and taking her to the finest restaurants that the Amish have in Marion County knowing that she’s never gonna let me hold her pretty little hand, never gonna let me have a little peck on the cheek and surely won’t EVER let me go have a little snack or dinner at the Y! So w NC at a the point in taking her out at all in the first place if there’s absolutely no chance I can ever compete? Money is too hard to get to just throw away like that but I am all for every single car being able to run in a class that it can be competitive in!! PS: I’m sorry Miss Vicki about that example and hope I did not offend you or molly!!

I agree 100%. I don't have a car so I wouldn't completely know about this but I have worked in cars for 20 years and watched a lot of racing. I can understand people chasing money but if your bringing a gun to a knife fight was the real feeling of accomplishment in that. Them chassis guys will find somewhere to go and more of the stock car guys will come back knowing they have a better shot.
