For sure kemper is a company with people that have a marvellous approach to the Customer. Some years ago I discovered that the kemper I bought used was a stolen unit. I contacted them and they were able to trace the owner, kemper paid the shipping back to the factory, they refurbished the unit and then send it back to the owner. I was able to receive my money back from paypal, and for approx the money i spent buying an used unit, kemper offered to send me a new one, because i spent time and effort to do the right thing. They are amazing and also for this reason I am still a kemper user (for sure the 1st reason is that it sounds amazing...)

Honestly one of my favorite features of the kemper is that there’s no true sequel, they’ve done an outstanding job of just updating the original unit in my opinion.

I know what you mean but for me personally, my Kemper is getting slower and less reliable every new update is coming out. A new Kemper unit with a fresh design and newer and upgraded hardware meeting 2023 needs (like the competition does) would be pretty nice to have, especially if you really want and must rely on your hardware.

I don’t mind the Kemper interface on the Toaster as it’s meant to be like adjusting amp controls. But I would imagine someone using the floor unit would be so confused never having used the toaster. If anything, maybe the floor unit could use a refresh regarding the interface, but at least you have the editor at your disposal. I personally loved the Kemper 2 question at the end of the last video. Absolutely made me LOL. HW’s editing and CK’s reaction was golden!

I think the challenge Kemper has is with sales and the age of this product. As others have said, We've gotten so used to planned obsolescence in tech that we are getting to the point that new buyers are worried their product will be obsolete in a year. Maybe there is a way for them to assure new buyers that won't happen? I really don't think a 2nd generation is needed. Does Nam or the Tonex capture algorithm require that much more DSP? The internal processors can surely handle it. The ports can obviously handle more since they are rolling out USB audio. Touch screen? nah. I'd rather they beef up their Ipad/tablet support.

I think the only thing I want from Kemper is more customization of profiles (sounds like this is already coming with liquid profiling) and a faster experience overall. I dont have experience with other similar products, but turning on and updating the Kemper feels miserably slow. But even these things wouldn't make me purchase a revised kemper. Im happy with what ive got.

One of the Reasons I bought the Kemper was that I had the Access Virus and a TI as well and these were great units with lots of free Updates. I never regretted buying one of the devices. And with the Kemper updates i think they even outdone themselves. While other companies promise you features that never see the light Kemper gives you more with free updates, which is amazing!

For me the liquid profiling as announced is maybe only an intermediate step. What if you‘d be able to profile your amp while turning all knobs ( gain, treble etc.) back and forward and the Kemper is storing all the information. This would be really liquid. It would be the merge off all single profiles we need to do by today. But THIS probably would definitely need far more CPU and DSP capabilities. So, this could be a need for a new platform. And why not. After that long period of staying with the old one. Kemper reminds me a bit on Nord keyboards. They indeed changed the platforms quite frequent, but you always got the possibility to load fresh samples into legacy products for free. You have the freedom to choose a new keyboard because you want the new features or stay with the old one if you are happy. I like that.

Holy words HW! Really loved your interview with Christoph :) Indeed he enjoys solving problems and embarking on challenges that no one has taken on before. He's a true innovator, full stop! Those liquid profiles are literally mind-blowing 🤯 and something that everyone dreamed about until today! I’m not so sure they’ll ever release a Kemper plug-in though as it would somehow cannibalize the hardware units (they don’t have the Line 6 user base), but on the other side, it can be very handy for recording studios. We’ll see… maybe a Kemper Keytar with full-res guitar profiles? 😁

The problem that they will continue to have is that folks will hold off on a buying a unit believing an update is potentially around the corner. It’s unfortunate that Apple (and tech in general) has trained us to constantly expect updates, however it remains a concern with devices like Kempers and Helixes due to their architecture. Good video. I look forward to watching the interview.

that was honestly me up until last year. It blew my mind when I first saw videos popping up in like 2011 or 12 and I immediately knew I wanted it. At the time I was a broke college kid and didnt have the money for it. By the time I did have it, the Kemper 2 questions were already starting to pop up. What got me to finally buy one was that I found an insane deal for like half the price on Reverb. I'm extremely happy I bought it but like you said I waited FOREVER because even though it has gone through multiple iterations (rack, power, floor) at its core its essentially the same unit reshaped and based on 10 year old tech. However, I do actually love that with Kemper you absolutely get your money's worth. No other company in this day and age would offer this many updates to keep their products fresh and competitive. They would rather have you buy another $1000-$2000 unit.

Every product has a life cycle. Kemper is very long in that cycle. Most things do not last 13 years. And when they cost $1800, you bet I am holding off. The QC and ToneX should scare the heck out of Kemper. The proposed updates sound great. But, face it. These are catch up moves. There is blood in the water and the game is on. Kemper pioneered the way, but that legacy won’t carry on forever. And the promises are just that until the updates drop. So, while it’s fun to talk, it doesn’t mean anything until it manifests in some way. I am holding off for now. Hey Kemper, you have the ball. Don’t keep us waiting and or wondering.

Kemper is an old product which can compete with the cutting edge technologies like QC & ToneX. If they decide to do Kemper 2 I'd expect it should be something new and refreshing really. Otherwise it does not make sense. People who talk about Kemper 2 just to have the "2" in the end do not understand the cost of the R&D and launch of a new product: new hardware, new software, new supply chains, advertisement, customer support training, and so on and so forth.

The only things left after this pending update that could make my Kemper significantly better after 10 years? A new, faster CPU/memory unit and a beefier DSP (FPGA?). DSP tech has advanced EXPONENTIALLY since the Profiler was introduced. The software is fine. With a hardware update, by now we should be able to run two separate profiles simultaneously and be able to have tails carry over when switching slots that have totally different effects in Performance Mode.
@modernistmixing

This is the only thing I miss from the AxeFx. My helix does this to an extent but the DSP is also easy to max out. My Axe Fx setup was dual amps, dual reverbs and delays, fully panned with HAAS effect and several stomp boxes that allowed me to stack drive pedals and a few modulation pedals on each side. I would love a smaller device that is only the head, and worked with a midi foot controller (such as the FCB1010)

They should make the CPU/memory/DSP after-market, so that we can keep using the old hardware, but just drop in the new upgraded tech, now THAT would be sweet. It won't happen, but would be great if you could just swap out a little motherboard or something

The worse [INNOCENT] thing about Chris is that he is not a guitarist, He will never experience the SHEER JOY and CALM, that guitarist experience because my friends he made the kemper too good. What I would wish for is a possibility to profile pedals, preamps, poweramps, cabs separately and have more output possibilities (for example: preamp out (no poweramp no cab) dedicated fx-loop (like the floorversion has). A global "input eq" for balancing different guitars with saveable presets, more fx-slots in front and post amp. That is what I can come up with.

The kemper doesn’t need a touch screen or to be micro, that would likely be a downgrade and moving away from what makes the Kemper work. A Kemper “player” could be useful, but I can imagine it also being frustrating due to the lack of connectivity and features it would be missing. However as a nice to have it would be good to have a slightly bigger and more high res screen and a slightly smaller form factor so that the remote can fit in a 19” rack for storage or so that the Kemper rack doesn’t take up an extra rack slot just for the feet, but that would have to be weighed up against the impact on thermals as well as complicating, manufacturing, sales and logistical impacts of having additional models in circulation just for a those benefits. The things that seem most in need of an update are the toaster/rack and specifically the lack of 2nd FX loop, the lack of bi directional SPDIF clock and wireless. The toaster also looks a lot less aesthetically pleasing and modern than the stage. Also the remote could do with a bit of an upgrade to give it some more of the stage functionality, such as the additional led lights. These are all relatively minor and reflects just how well designed the kemper is in the first place and why they shouldn’t just rush out new models.

I play Kemper stage live. My only complaint has been a missing Android and now we are getting it. I have no plans to get rid of my stage. I have had it since 2018 and I am still discovering features. Built in Wifi, is awesome I do wish it would use an already established wifi though. Anymore bands running live have their own wifi running as well. So I would love to be able to join it to our existing wifi rather than using it's own internal wifi. If you can do that I haven't seen it yet or figured it out. Also Midi over WIFI would be awesome. Being able to use the USB audio is kind of cool also the other fluid profiles sound really cool as well.

The question (outside new features) is, will today's new component choices make a significant difference to capture/profile/sound quality? - the 'primary' function of the Kemper. Given that the Kemper was first demoed waaay back at NAMM 2011 (if my Googling is right), if there's little that todays components can add then Mr Kemper got a hell of a lot correct at day#1. I don't know if in hindsight he feels a significant missed opportunity to earn much more through the usual iterations of so many other products. Probably, unless he's a rare true altruistic/if you're going to do something then DO IT RIGHT human - massive kudos if yes. New features? yes of course, that would be welcome and justify a Kemper 2, though I'd imagine we'd be looking at expanding towards the Axe side of things, maybe some pedal loops...you know...the usual stuff.

This people/customer centric approach is the very reason why I will never give any money to Fractal. I can actually afford a Fractal unit, but, I will never buy one, the owner's behaviour on his forum is reprehensible and its made in China with the cheapest components and the price a whopping $4,800 AUD. Once I bought the Eleven Rack and then a group of Fractal acolytes came in to the forum and started badmouthing the unit, when one of the 11R users pointed out that the Fractal had copied a lot of the 11R features they retreated almost as fast as they came in, the rot sets in from the top.

I love the Kemper! If it sounds bad to someone, it is because they don’t know how to control a amplifier in the first place. On the subject of touchscreens, I was just reading yesterday morning how many manufactures were listening to feedback from customers, and abandoning touch screens in their automobiles. In my opinion, the touchscreen has no place on a unit such as the stage. Totally useless for me, as I am blind, and unless they implement Speech into the unit, like Apple does, I would be better off sticking with my good old stage. Rig Manager and the Kemper Stage is the whole package imo, and I’m glad that they don’t just make their products obsolete at the drop of a hat. Having said that, I’m always interested if they should make new gear lol.

I hear you on the people who think it sounds bad...I also wonder if many of the people who claim to have owned one but sold it because it "sounded bad" either never had one or couldn't afford it and sold it for that reason. As far as its cost i don't even call it expensive considering the build quality and not made in China like all the other products many claim are "just as good or better", go price a decent made in USA amp, same same but it wont do 10% what a Kemper can. I cant stand touchscreens either, the current interface is excellent and wasn't hard to learn at all.

I am hoping that the new USB I/O can be routed to the effects loop, because the S/PDIF cannot do that. That would allow me to stay in the digital realm when using my UA Apollo as an effects platform with just one cable. Yes, I could use analog cables but doing so uses valuable analog I/O on the Apollo. My use case is only in studio, not live. I will use the S/PDIF for I/O between the Kemper and the Apollo (for recording), while using USB for the effects loops (on the Stage). The Apollo has some of the best plugin effects available with ultra low latency. Imagine putting an Empirical Labs Distressor and a Pultec EQ in front of the tone stack to precisely shape that section of the sound, and then a Space Echo and a Capitol Chambers reverb after the tone stack in the second loop after the tone stack. Even if I have to use a pair of analog inputs and outputs and the USB IO to use both loops, it will be better than needing to use two pairs.

Obsolete components aren't a huge issue really, we deal with it at work all the time. You find an equivalent and replace it, especially with electronics it's simple. @@nonameno2006 I know all about this, i have been working in electronics since the 80´s. Its true that its a common thing to replace obsolete components during production of products without changing the actual product if it is possible, i have seen it first hand many many times as a product manager and tech but there also comes a time when you have have to or its appropriate to make a new product especially when key components like processors and DSPs become obsolete, this may also require new programming . 10+ years is a very long time for this kind of product so i wouldnt be at all surpriced to see new hardware coming out soon, but who know when it will happen.

Why would Kemper release an upgraded Kemper when this is still selling for $2300, and they can continue to market the toaster with a new feature USB recording (10 year old technology) or "liquid profiling," huh? AI will be introduced into amp technology at some point. "I see you're trying to reproduce Child in Time by Deep Purple tone using your 2013 Gibson SG with stock pickups? Here you go, make sure to pull your volume pot down to 70%, tone to 80% and use your bridge pickup.

I don't think there will be a Kemper 2 anytime soon; the CPU and electronics in the Kemper are barely working to their full potential to run the unit, and when you fill it up with whatever effects you want, the quality does not degrade, and there is no resource management, at least that I know off, that switches DSP power from one effect to another in order to compensate, there is no fan, minimal ventilation and almost never heats up, meaning they picked a future proof CPU and optimized the software to make everything even better and faster through the years. I believe the STAGE has a better CPU, as owners say it boots faster, and I know there is no difference in performance between the two, at least from the digital side of things. I think there are 2 justifications for a Kemper 2; a Dual amp setup (possibly a 2nd input too) and pedal profiling at least for drive/boost/distorion/fuzz pedal. I want a 6v6 tube power section, but that's just me 😁

Faster booting could be faster storage not necessarily anything to do with cpu. Id say this is actually more likely than they using a different cpu and people are just making assumptions with little understanding of computer hardware.

I don't believe they will release a Kemper 2 unless *they* feel there's a need for it. Whether it's to offer more routing options or simply because it can't handle bigger software updates in the future. It seems to me that Christoph will only release something that serves a purpose rather than just for the sake of releasing something new.

I think everyone has over looked that all of a sudden you can use the USB to reamp and etc. It's hidden feature that has always Ben there . There is more hidden features that has always Ben there. Think about that

A Kemper 2... Should be better in the effects department.. Specially with MODULATION.. That's the major weakness that should be upgraded imho.

I wouldn't make a Kemper 2. what i would do instead is a Kemper for pedals. a small pedalboard friendly unit that profiles different drives, distortions and fuzzes. it would be a standard in every pedalboard.

I dont see kemper making something that functions or looks like a QC or Helix, we need functionality, thats why i dont use a Kemper, if it sounds the best in the world, it doesnt matter because it cant do the things I and many others need it to do

Sorry but I strongly disagree with this point of view… he doesn’t innovate anymore because of the huge inertia of his company and the huge amount of cash they do quite easily right now which I can understand. But as a customer pov it’s not a good thing.

Honestly, I don’t think they operate the way a lot of big companies do… when I used Line 6 products, there was almost an annual refresh to a product I already had: HD500, then HD500X, then Helix, then HX Effects [which I own], Helix LT, Helix Stomp… the Kemper has had exactly 2 iterations (toaster and floor) and it’s the same OS. Sure they have the remote and Kemper cab and kone… but honestly, they could easily make a LOT more money if they refreshed their line annually, but they don’t do that. They’re a German company and they don’t play the same game as the bigger boys. It’s a good and bad thing, but it’s the way they choose to operate. When CK made the Virus keyboard, it was 10 years or so between the 1st and 2nd gen synths. And then he made the Kemper. That’s just the way he operates. It’s maddening sometimes because we want something updated. But my wallet thanks him for not doing that, haha.

Not a fan of that display at all and the kemper hardware as a whole feels dated very limited amount of effects able to be used at once the new features help but dont make the other short comings all of a sudden disappear

Meh. Never understood the "limited effects" argument. Plenty in there. Has everything I need for sure. One thing I would like would be blending profiles, tho. Either a complete left and right or customizable mix. And maybe 8 damn profile switches on the Kemper stage 2. And a built in expression pedal. Then it'll be unstoppable

It’s one of the ugliest pieces of hardware ever created for musicians. It looks like an appliance found in a fallout shelter in the cold war era. I don’t want it visible on stage or in my living room. They’re being left behind & seem unwilling to progress.

You do realise it won design awards... It's supposed to look exactly the way it looks. If you look at any band playing live you can see in two seconds if there's a Kemper on the stage. That's the genius of the design that it seems you're not capable of grasping! 🙂

@@guitartoneSA Cool story. It was ugly over 10 years ago & remains an eyesore today. Now it’s an antiquated eyesore that’s fallen behind every other company who does this.
