Thanks for the video. My wife worked at a bank and kids would bring in tons of coins that were MS (not graded) probably after a death in the family. She bought all of it at face value, which was still a considerable amount of money (several thousands but less than 10K). She gave it to me as Birthday, Christmas gifts. I thought it was pretty good idea as I didnt need any more socks. She actually had a $500 bill come in but her boss, the branch manager, gave it to the bank manager.

A year late to the party here but what an incredibly educational video! I loved the obsolete coins. My family and I enjoyed this, sparked a lot of conversation and pauses in the video.

I went into a coin shop I frequently visit to buy coins. Some lady was trying to sell her coins for retail. The owner said people would buy the coins on ebay for less. He turned to me and I had ebay already pulled up on my phone. He said to the woman see what I mean. Me personally would rather even pay more at a coin dealer because you're pretty sure what your getting. A lot of photos of the coins can be misleading or the coin may be fake. I bought one that was ms but when I received it I could tell it had been heavily cleaned.

I'll make a buffalo nickel concave with a ball-peen hammer and solder a little copper wire loop in the concave part. They make excellent buttons if you make leather coats or shirts such as I did with an elk and a deer hide and Harley leathers. The nickels are usually worn down when you buy them in bulk.

A cool video topic would be whether you ever lose out on $ when you list an auction. Do auctions ever slip through the cracks and someone nabs them for less than market value? How do you react? Do/can you take steps to prevent that from happening? (And vice versa - do you ever get an auction where it sells for a lot more than you thought, and why do yout hink that happens?) Does it make you consider selling more coins at auction vs. a flat listing? How do you decide what to auction vs. list at a price?

I think you should always have a handy magnet. I have one in a tiny case and is about 2" inches long. I have a box with like 300 foreign coins in it and ran that magnet through for about 5 minutes and got all the ferrous coins out. This left me with coins I could deal with.

A friend of mine started buying silver coins advertised on television. 1 ounce silver coins. I forget the price something like $29.99+ shipping for each coin.. so with shipping it was like $35 a coin he was buying them every week for years.. he got into some financial trouble, he had a Business that started out as a job working in his basement, and it became bigger and had employees, all the while he held down his regular job. So he was pretty much working 50 to 60 hours a week for years trying to keep his business , while holding down his job that he had since he got out of the Navy in the early 1970s The business collapsed, mainly because of the people he hired that got greedy and took risks..Ended up declaring bankruptcy, and one of his employees ended up bailing him out and owning the business.. set my friend was selling pretty much anything he had. Tools, his motorcycle, his guitars and amplifiers, his stereo system. And finally his silver coins.. those commercials kept pointing out how the value of silver is going to skyrocket.. well that sky rocket had a dud for a fuse.. my friend called the company that was gladly selling him coins every week through the mail. he asked them if they would be interested in buying them back. they told him to take those coins to a store that buys grandma’s jewelry, unwanted jewelry, coins, things like that so he did. He took all those coins in their special containers to keep them perfect to several places. They all went by the same business practice.. it didn’t matter what coin it was, they would only pay him for the weight of the coin. He invested $35 in each coin. At the time silver was around $18 an ounce. they told him they would give him $18 an ounce -10%, -$.85 per coin transaction fee.. so they would only pay him $15.05 for each coinhe paid $35 for.. he lost $19.95 per coin.. OK so let’s say they were gold coins. The same thing applies. They subtract 10% from the spot value at that moment, and then they subtract $.85 per coin transaction fee.. So let’s say he had gold coins and the worlds monetary system collapsed. They say you buy gold as a hedge against inflation or a guarantee if the dollar work to collapse.. So how do you go to a grocery store and buy a loaf of bread with a gold coin? How are they going to make change? With worthless paper? Pennies?
@kyleharrington1228 Жыл бұрын
If the dollar collapses, you really think there will be grocery stores selling bread?

@CoinHELPu Жыл бұрын
Most dealers do NOT wear gloves and neither does PCGS or NGC or ANACS, get out to the shows a bit and see what I am saying. Also, I didn't handle any BU coin by the face, there wasn't any BU or problem free coins in this lot. The halves had tape on them and had to be restored.

It's very cool getting see what ppl bring in bcuz you can never tell what may be in there. However, it's kinda heartbreaking for me bcuz my 92 yr old dad gave his lifelong coin collection to my nephews ( my sister's kids) and her husband basically traded the whole thing for a handful of magic beans. And he just had to tell me that the collection was so heavy, he had a hard time getting it through at the airport. So yeah, that happened, but thanks buddy for another informative video. 👍
