In this video, I demonstrate 5 ways to mix purple. Artists often struggle with mixing purple because we've all been taught that it's a mixture of red and blue. That actually creates brown instead of purple.
Actually, the secret to mixing purple is to use magenta instead of red. Red is a mixture of magenta and yellow. In this video, I mix red from these colors to prove that this is not just a theory and that it actually applies to painting.
When you mix purple and yellow together it creates brown. Red contains enough yellow in it so that it turns brown when you mix it with blue. The solution is to use pure magenta and mix it with blue to create purple.
