I relate to this video. One day after buying my first Mercedes (w123) I went on a road trip from Canada to Florida without stopping. Drove all through the night, in snow, and then to the beach. I bonded with the car on that trip. That was 10 years ago and I have since bought 2 more (w201, r107). There is nothing like these MB's from the 80's and early 90's, they have a soul and a character that doesn't exist in any other cars I have driven.

Careful of the strut mounts on the E class. They are known to fail from age and poke up into the hood

NICE, great color combo.. I am still kicking myself for trading in my 1993W124 wagon for a 2012 W212 $ matic wagon.. sure the newer wagon has great safety features and all wheel drive, and a pano sunroof, but it isn't the bank vault quality of the W124.....

Vito, out of curiosity what is going on with that black 190e with the zero compression in first cylinder? And what does it need? A new head or simply to change the bent valve? And when are you gonna take apart the head?

I don’t have that car. I didn’t buy it. Cylinder head needs to come off at the minimum on it. If I find the engine and time for it I’ll probably buy it. It also depends if the owner gives me a good deal. That car is so messed up

Hey Vito, great series reviving this W124!!! Regarding the shock mounts and the fear that the shock absorber will go thru the hood if the mounts fail, I checked them on my W201 and the way the mount is designed, It will actually move like 1/2 inch if the rubber part breaks, as the metal shoulder will stop from completely going thru, isnt that the case?

I’ve seen and heard that when the strut mounts break, they can shoot up and dent the hood. But thank God it never happened to me

Question? Our 1989 300 W124 wants to stall out in idle mode. What can I look at to address this. I’ve removed the air intake and sprayed linkage under it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Send a message on Instagram: vitosgarageyoutube. You may be having multiple issues causing this. Vacuum leaks, fuel pumps being controlled intermittently, idle control valve issues etc..
