As someone who unfortunately never got to play The Wind Waker, I just realized that, in much the same way that I tried to figure out how to thaw out Zora's Domain, there were probably many younger players who started out with The Wind Waker who tried to figure out how to restore Greatfish Isle.

I wonder if anyone has tried reconstructing the island in a 3D modeling program using the broken up chunks we see in-game. It would be interesting to see what the island could've looked like when whole.

It met its end when they cut the dungeon there, but seriously, the island was supposed to have a dungeon which was cut. Even Stove Top Isle where you use the ice arrows was originally supposed to be the Goron island, featuring a larger design, a village, and its own temple.

When I was a child playing this game in multiple playthroughs, I just thought that Ganondorf and his forces destroyed the Isle at some point.

Hmm there's one thing that bugs me, didn't the master sword lock away his powers and he didn't gain it back till Link pull the sword out. It may not be his power, more likely the triforce of power.

Somebody could theoretically reassemble Greatfish isle using the pieces in 3d modeling software, Id' love to see that!

Just imagine you could have explored greatfish isle at like the start of the story (since it's pretty close to the forsaken fortress the king of red lions could have brought you there instead of windfall) and later on you return to see that it's completely destroyed

A lightning strike would not be enough to completely shatter the island to the point that we see it in the game. Ganondorf showcases another possibility in the form of his ground pound technique as seen in LoZ:OoT. Ganondorf's ground pound is strong enough to send out a massive shock wave that actually shook the very foundation of Hyrule Castle during the first phase the Boss fight in that game. Since this is the same Ganondorf in LoZ:WW, it is likely that this was the same ground pound technique (just on a much larger, much more powerful scale)!

7:16 "And the one who created this curse, Ganondorf, specializes in electric magic" That is very incorrect; he specializes in dark magic, not electrical. Albeit he does use electricity and energy blasts for certain attacks, it's a bit misleading to say that he is to specialize with the sorts. Especially since his powers are referred to as Dark Magic. Possibly there's a chance that all of his spells are conjured from a dark source that allows electrical attacks? It's unclear, as the series never directly states any formal library for a magic system. Although, it has been heavily implied that his magic is evil in nature, having seen Ganondorf perform malefic, arcane acts of strength time after time.

What I'm wondering is, why is the stone slab that was at Greatfish Isle also at Outset Island at the beginning of the game. Who put it there? Was Outset under Jabu's protection too at some point? Was Greatfish Isle a midway trade point between Outset and Windfall where Jabu protected the trade route between the people? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!

Realistically, would the hero of time even have lived long enough to see Ganon defeated again had he stayed in that timeline? I feel like it would take a long time for Ganon to break out of that last seal. Regardless, very interesting video!

So, does anyone know why the Goron travellers hide their faces? Whenever you blow their hat's off, they will grab for it and put it back on. Why are they in hiding, and why do we only see 3 Gorons?

It’s been stated that wind waker was gonna have two more dungeons, but had to be cut due to time constraints. It’s pretty obvious one of them would have been at greatsfish isle.

I think it was definitely lightning! That's a good connection. Ganondorf must have not been able use his electric powers to the same extent & was saving it for a rainy day, so he used it on the island that made the most sense, Greatfish, with the aquatic spirit

What if the Zora do exist in Wind Waker alongside the Rito similarly to in Breath of the Wild, but they were scared to the depths by Ganon's attacks on Greatfish Isle. They're some of the races that would most easily be able to hide from Link in the Great Sea which would explain why we never see them besides a spirit.

Props to whoever built that house that has survived better than the island itself.

Or, the more likely theory: Devs were getting too close to the release date without completing the Water Temple, and were forced to scrap it at the last moment. Solution was to just give Link the pearl in a roundabout but easy to design/program way and just add some busted island assets in the middle of the ocean.

One thing that I think was cut, looking at the cutting room floor, is a section where Jabun helps you travel through fog (A cut scene element with ambient light and fog being cut). Perhaps originally he was going to guide you somewhere? Thus the light on his head being more functional than just a random design choice. Perhaps Jabun's role in Great Fish Isle's lore was a great guide. One that helped travelers and traders when they were lost. Maybe there was going to be some Tetra's Mother lore here, give us even more development on Tetra's character before the twist coming up. Plus, I felt it would've given some much needed explanation on the Goron's new position in the world, especially if it turns out Jabun helped them in the new environment much like how Valoo helped the Rito and the Deku Tree helped the Koroks.

All that was left was some boats, ruins, a slab, and a octorok secret Also, Ganon never does this again

The living trees on the island are straight up, while the dead trees are up relative to the flipped ground. You could roughly date how long ago the island was destroyed by how long it takes for the trees to grow.

I think the storm and Greatfish Isle's destruction are two separate, but connected matters *because* of the KoRL's dialogue about monsters destroying the place. Monsters destroyed it, as we see that monsters have canons to blow apart the wall too, **and** Ganon cursed the ocean to prevent Link from getting the Pearl.

I always thought it was one of those giant octopus that did it.

I thought you were going to mention Shadow Ganon since he is the only one that attacks with Balls of Electrical magic he could have thrown a Big one and Break the island the King also Mentions The Shadow of Forsaken Fortress.

Very solid theory! This is an older one, and there’s not a real point in commenting. I’m not usually the type to nitpick but I thought I’d bring up how the divine beast Vah Naboris likely has an electricity theme because Urbosa has an electric type ability.

As a kid I couldn't figure out the password for the pirate boat so I spend more time than I'd like to admit just flying around Greatfish with a seagul exploring.

things I wish were in this game: - a handful of larger islands… - less of those tiny, boring, only-one-visit-necessary islands -a circular, rather than square world map -more Hyrule below the Sea sections… perhaps a small section associated with every late-game dungeon? - a third early-game dungeon, where some bad guy pirates had stolen the Pearl, and the whole dungeon is on a pirate ship. - a water-themed dungeon, associated with an underwater Goron civilization… in _Twilight Princess_ we see that Gorons can survive underwater without breathing, so why not?! - a third and fourth late-game dungeon, perhaps like “Temple of Waves,” of “Temple of Sun & Stars…” but whatever they are, I want to team-up with Tingle for one of them!

I think the biggest mystery about Greatfish Isle is: What was it BEFORE the flood? Comparing the maps between OoT and WW, both have: Hyrule Castle in the center, Death Mountain to the NE and the Deku tree to the SE, Forsaken Fortress could even be considered the same Gerudo Fortress in the NW, but what was Greatfish Isle? There’s no elevated locations in SW Hyrule that it could’ve come from - unless you were meant to take another ‘elevator’ underwater to visit what would have been the Water Temple of OoT? We could argue Kakariko Village became Windfall Island, but Outset Island doesn’t match up with anything major either...

Nintendo loves placing unanswerable things in their games just to get us imagining and questioning. They probably don't even think through everything they do.

The first Zelda game I played was Wind Waker, when I got to Jabun he gives you the pearl, at the time I didn't think anything of it. Now I wish that you had to restore Greatfish, or prove your worth to Jabun via a dungeon, perhaps in his mouth. ;) I believe that Jabun was supposed to give you a quest before giving you the pearl, but was scrapped due to time constraints

2:21 It is revealed to be BS because Ganondorf himself later admits that the Master Sword sealed away his magical powers meaning that he shouldn't have been to destroy Greatfish recently like he did. It is one of Wind Waker's greatest plot holes with the other being that there is no entrance to the Earth and Wind Temples in Hyrule despite the King of Red Lions saying there is and that it is sealed by magic. When you explore the Temples there is nowhere to enter Hyrule from there.

I have a bit of a theory that have probably already been thought of. My theory is that the 2 missing dungeons were a great fish isle dungeon and another elemental temple my prove is that it felt a bit strange there was only 2 sages and it would make sense if thwre was meant to be 3 sages like the pearls and the triforce.

Something you mentioned actually brought to my attention and idea. You said that the island is like that when you start the game however if someone had the correct software couldn't they rearrange the pieces and try to make it look like it was an island before? I get that some of the pieces are under the sea and it would be hard to do however I think that possibly someone with the right software might be able to recreate what it could have looked like hypothetically. Again, this is just an idea I had because of something you said so I don't know if it's possible but I'm sure that of course it's an idea that someone might be able to actually use to figure it out. I always love your videos and I know it's a bit late me watching this since it came out quite a while ago and I'm just now trying to watch this playlist but I figured I'd give you my idea

Can you please do a video of where rupees come from? Nearly every monster carries them, you can find them in grass. With how easy it is to find them why are the worth anything? It would be really cool to get a deeper look into this.

My theory was that Ganondorf sent Phantom Ganondorf to the island, since his own dark magic was still sealed away by the Master Sword. And that Phantom Ganondorf was able to break open the stone slab that Jabun left behind, before tearing the island apart. Likely also causing those large gashes in the grass that one can see. And so Ganondorf set upon the island his dark curse, delivering the final, destructive blow - having to use his old Gerudo lightning magic, as opposed to his dark magic, which was still sealed. He then kept at it with the dark curse, spreading it out in an effort to seek out Jabun. As for the timeline, I think it logical that the initial curse and invasion happened while Link was meeting with the Great Deku Tree. It's also entirely possible that Ganondorf had already examined this young boy, and discovered the plot by the King of Red Lions. And merely made a show of power with what magic he could dredge up, obliterating the island Jabun had been residing in, and sent him fleeing to a new safe haven. He may have even bet on the possibility Jabun would relocate to Outset, further inciting the young 'Hero' to draw the Master Sword - now powerless against him, but still sealing away much of his power. This is, after all, the same Ganondorf who tricked the young Hero of Time into opening the Door of Time and drawing the Master Sword in the first place. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that he was just using this new 'hero' chosen by the old King to do the same thing all over again.

When I played this game for the first time I imagined Ganon just having a temper tantrum when he learns that the fish is gone. the whole deal, stomping, throwing himself to the ground; prime three-year-old behavior.

I have a question about Hestu-Link's supposed to be the only one who can see him right, but an npc talks about a "freaky tree ghost" shortly before you meet him for the first time.

I feel like Ganondorf wanted to destroy that island to destroy the Zora bc he feared their prowess in swimming and power in water, and that they could have been a threat. The whole world is literally a big ocean so that makes sense

Here are Top 5 reasons why Zelda - Wind Waker would make more sense as a Wii launch title: • Nintendo fans (as well as Miyamoto) were actually not yet ready nor motivated for a Toon Link to appear on the GameCube. • Zelda as seen in a Spaceworld 2000 demo needed to be the next sequel for GameCube. • By the time the Wii comes out, Zelda - Wind Waker would actually have all the given time to be 100% complete with the scrapped dungeons and all being in the game. • The Wii is powerful enough to graphically implement transparent bodies of water for Link to swim and dive in. • The Wii is more fitting because the Wii remote would be for players to motion Link's wind baton, and to steer the sailboat.
