Congrats on the new machine! This reminds me of a time on a harvest crew in 2005: We roaded our Deere 9660 combines from the Raymond/Regway US/Canada border crossing in Montana to Estevan, Saskatchewan. It was about a 90 mile trip. Instead of bringing the trucks through customs it made more sense to drop the combines and combine operators off at the border and the trucks went back to Great Falls Montana to pick up grain trailers then go through customs once and come on to Estevan. Something to do with the border crossing hoops to be jumped through. I thought it was funny telling the story to others how the only time I've been out of the US, I crossed the border driving a John Deere combine with my header in tow lol.

I've wondered how much hassle it would be to cross with farm equipment vs a truck. It's not really an option here in Michigan since it's all bridge crossings, and busy ones at that.
@walkerdb84
@walkerdb84 9 ай бұрын
@ThatOliverGuyChris I do remember performing a very thorough cleaning of the machines in Great Falls before loading them on the trailers. The customs agents did open several panels and crawl up on the engine platform and look in the grain tank to be sure they were clean and free of chaff, which may harbor weed seeds, etc.

@@walkerdb84 I've had some Canadian friends come to my farm for a plow day and they said they would be stopping at a car wash to clean everything. He said dirt on the plows would get you turned away at the crossing.

50 years ago a family friend was moving his dairy farm from Frankenmuth, MI to Minden City, MI., north of Port Huron. He didn’t want to pay several hundred dollars to have his Massey combine trucked 65+ miles. His oldest son drove it there. I don’t remember exactly but I think it took about 8 hours.

Interesting Chris... I'm glad you are keeping the old machine for now. My neighbor has a Gleaner the same vintage as your new combine, and when the flexdraper is great when it works he has had the float sensors fail at random and wow will that thing plow dirt when one quits. Also be prepared to scrutinize draper berings when it gets sometime on it. My neighbor fixes most things with his checkbook so I've herd enough complaints where better maintenance would have solved the problem. Good luck with it.... oh you better check the expiration date on the belts🤣🤣 I kept telling my neighbor when he was blowing belts that they were past the expiration date, in all reality they just had the hrs on them.

G'day, Chris! Oh, very nice! I'm really happy for you! Congratulations on your new Massey Ferguson 9795 Combine! As a suggestion... Like anything they are only as good as the home they came from. Keep your shaker shoe and it's many bearings in top condition. Replace with only quality bearings. (as you may know) There are a lot of bearings on the shoe assembly and if left to make the shafts loose that is when things start to crack. Again just a maintenance thing. They have a great rock trap that is easily opened and closed which tends to make you open it every meal break as it is so easy to open and close. Nice job! Thank you! Cheers! ❤🚜✌🏻😊 P.S. That's a Amazing! Did you know... Rachel's family (Iowa Country Girl) just got a newer Case Ih 2166 combine, and also, Wesley (onelonelyfarmer) bought a new to him, Combine too! Awesome!

Personally I think agco made a hugh mistake when they droped the massey combine in favor of that ideal fendt but I guess that's what happens when you climb into bed with a company and let them call the shots. Our family run massey combines on the wheat run for 55 years and in 2019 we switched to caseih we didn't want anything to do with that ideal after we demo a ideal now we run 8250s.

I saw an Ideal at the Louisville farm show, and wow was there a lot shafts , hoses, belts and whatever along each side. It seemed overly complicated compared to the Massey. The combine business seems to be a race to who can make it bigger and I don't think they are interested in the 6-8 row market anymore.

The orange/yellow light on your arm control goes off when the rotor is under heavy load . It’s strange that it is lit up with no crop/thresher engaged. Might be a faulty sensor ?

Now your farming! Get back to this ole Mississippi farm boy if you have any trouble! I promise I can screw you up worse! You should see all the Bells and Whistles and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ALARMS on a new Claas ! Nothing cleans and puts more grain in the hopper! Last Massey I ran was a 510 with a 327 Chevy V8 and a 15’ grain header. She was a beast in her day, now, this Claas just keeps breaking records. Some other combine manufacturers will think they can break CLAAS records and they do,,,,,,,,,,for about a minute then Claas rolls out their big boy and just shatters the record again. Always wanted to try a new MF combine but down in the Deep South they just don’t sell but back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, WE HAD OLIVERS! Very first cab air tractor I drove was a 2255 with the 3150 Cat 4 wheel drive with long axles and rear duals then we figured out how to dual up the front end! Very next year model 2255 we bought was the next year model, can’t remember when Oliver came out with the 3208 in the 2255 but only one year separation between the two. Now I know the 3208 was supposed to be a better, little more HP engine but I loved the old 3150! Had an AM radio too! Man was I in the big leagues then, but a cab AC/heated tractor,,,,,,that meant my young butt got a lot more butt time in the seat! I’d disk till I gave out, not the tractor! 😂

I was delivering an old NH combine with a four row wide corn head about 30 miles from the shop. Top speed was maybe 10 mph. I had to travel across a long two lane highway bridge. I waited until traffic was clear, took the center of the road. I was about halfway across, when a car approached from the other direction at 60 mph. Even with a bright yellow combine, and sux headlights on, he didn’t see me until the last second. He locked up the brakes, and skidded to a stop with the back of the car over the centerline. I crowded to the right as much as possible and waited for the crunch. It never happened. The combine header was above the trunk and bridge railing. The next day one of our customers came in wondering who was driving it. He stated he was behind me, and the car driver looked petrified as the combine passed over the car.

I'm glad there was no crunch. My insurance agent told about a claim where a motorcycle came speeding up behind a combine. I don't know if he even tried to stop, but they found him way up in the sieves. He didn't survive.

@ThatOliverGuyChris my biggest issue is dealer support and how much newer machines force the owner to only be able to use the dealer for service. Like my truck.... my local shop that has worked on vehicles for 50 years can't touch 60% of these new vehicles because they can't get into the computers anymore. They are even a Ford garage with Ford technicians, and they have to send Ford trucks to the dealer for computer related repairs.
