@FrankD23 How in the ever-loving Christ does that have anything to do with the Greig goal? You could argue both are showboating, but let me put it this way, the hell does a lacrosse move have to do with an empty net goal? If Greig did the Lacrosse move on an empty net... maybe? But you are reaching further than most hockey goalies do. Please don't strain yourself with all this reaching.

Watching that game I was 100% confident Reaves wasn’t going to do anything. Watching him at that face off mouthing off… he was making sure the refs were giving him all the attention before being “held back”. Do your job, get away fromthe ref, throw some blows, get suspended, and send a message that your team will protect themselves and the crest. He did the opposite!

"Poor innocent Greig?"...lol, I don't think that's the narrative of most Sens fans. I'm a Sens fan, I live in Ottawa, and while certainly there are a vocal group of fans across every team, I think the majority of Sens fans are already well over the event and just hope we can claw out of being a bottom 5 team in the league. You guys are way more obsessed with this than we are, and I guess it makes sense because it's your guy who unfortunately is going to be suspended and miss games. Personally, I think an in-person hearing probably isn't warranted, and I don't think giving MR a long suspension helps the situation. His history shows he's not that type of player. ...and again, Sens fan here...just a normal one. There are a lot of us normal ones.

I've personally debated far too many Sens fans and general hockey fans to know that a lot of them are acting clueless about the Greig response. Rielly deserves a suspension, but it's been a ton.

anyone remember when I think one of the Stall brothers took a slapshot on an empty net with Phaneuf standing in front of him? Phaneuf didn't do anything, Stall skated away. Reilly is Leafs true captain.

Yeah, I'm one of those Leafs fans that feels Rielly shouldn't have done that. Now give Morgan the 'C' he deserves and let's move on already. We did fine without Rielly for a few games last season, we'll be fine a few games without him again.

Morgan Reilly has never even been fined in a 769 game career. The suspension was exactly what it should be. As for a typical Leafs move that implies this happens on a regular basis which is with out a doubt false. Only a little bit of anti leaf's bias there. You're outright lying.

Was he wrong to slap the puck into the net? It wasn't illegal but it obviously was not an acceptable action according to the unwritten "rules" players have among themselves. It was an obvious attempt to antagonize the leafs and he should not have been surprised it got a reaction. Rielly was right to go after him. The leafs would have been criticized for being soft otherwise. That being said a crosscheck to the face is a bit much. Based on precedent, Riellys lack of histroy and the fact that there was no injury I think 5 games is also a but much.

As a fan of neither team, I don’t get the big deal. Let them fight it out next time. I’m only saddened this wasn’t Game 1 in the playoffs. The next game would be blockbuster boxoffice 😎

Gregg broke "The Code". Love it. Also love that Reilly showed some emotion! What I hated was the reaction to that emotion. It was stupid. It was dangerous and he deserves the extended suspension. He earned that. For all the Leafs fans. "The Code" is about players policing the game through the use of fighting. NOT crosschecking another player in a dangerous manner. This case is simple. Reilly should have flipped off the mitts and just started feeding Gregg. At that point, the MOST Reilly would get is 1 game for getting an instigator penalty in the last 5 min of a game. Even then.. George Paros, might overlook that.

That's the appropriate take. I would say when you take Reilly's history into account (or the lack there of) this is one of the rare occasions player safety got it right.

I have to say I don't understand their negative reaction to Torts talking about "something happening" guys being after "skilling it up". Then this is fine? In one situation where a player shows up another team by taking a slapshot ENG, a player has to "do something" because of this unwritten code I have been hearing so much about recently. But the section about making a team look silly by doing a Michigan... they scratched that out of the code years ago. What?

Sort of sums up what I've seen from the leafs, they don't know how to react properly to adversity. There just isn't really a defence on going for the head like that. We'd be fine with the dirtiest of spears or cross-checks, but he didn't do that, we went for the head and we want that out of the game.

it was like watching the hunter on turgeon play all over again right down to where the hit happened. ridley gave the middle finger to a home arena full of noisy leaf fans. it was ahuge game for the sens. a nothing game for the leafs.

To me it looked like Rielly wanted to cross check or grab his shoulder but because Greg was skating away he had to reach out quick if he wanted to hit him. Split second reaction. I doubt Morgan went in there thinking he wants to hit the guys head. What if Morgan had done nothing? people would be complaining. cannot win either way

Why is it that leaf haters are so off the mark on an argument. They say we whine and cry because Rielly is getting suspended. Most fans think he should be suspended. The problem is the DOPS (parros) has zero consistency and they won't even own up to that fact. If Rielly is the new precedent then the next guy should get the same at least. Who believes that will happen?

The precedent in this situation is David Perron deliberate hit to the head well after stoppage of play. That was 6 games.

I think the guys have a fair take. The problem that I have as "tuned in" to the Leaf's fans pain that they'd be understanding of what Greig did. Greig plays on a team that is SEVERELY underperforming, who is playing their biggest rival, and there were probably more Leafs than Sens fans in the building. Hopefully Greig can pull the sleepwalking Sens into the fight.

I think it's at best a false equivalency to say both guys are wrong. One guy took a slapshot into an empty net at most hurting a few people's feelings and another guy cross checked someone in the face. The idea that a response was warranted to something so trivial is silly. If the leafs did nothing in response nobody would even remember this play at all because of how trivial it was. If you don't like how someone scores don't let them score.

Perron’s cross check on Zub deliberately targeted the head and made much harder contact. Perron got 6 games. Reilly was clearly going for Grieg’s upper shoulder. When Grieg tried to stiff arm Reilly, Rielly’s stick rides up his shoulder and makes contact with his head. Grieg goes down like a ton of bricks, because of course he would. And that’s that. If Reilly gets more than 2 games then Parros should be fired.
