I will never understand that the biggest of Olympus we’ve seen didn’t have a colosseum. These worlds are massive with barely anything worth while to do, no secret bosses or anything.

yeah they used the rehashed flow motion. no dual wield no forms no sephy no colosseum i was so depressed at the end of kh3. the only fun moment i had for a bit was pirates. it felt like playing wind waker even tho i never played that. the whole upgrading my ship and finding secrets on each island really felt like a unique world.

For me, it was the lack of surprises. The trailers showed like 90% of the game and there werent many things they could have added to surprise us, so when the game came out, we basically knew what was gonna happen up until the final arc.

When I played Kingdom Hearts II for the first time I didn't watch any trailers since I was a little boy, I got surprised with a lot of things like Pirates of Caribbean world, entering Christmas Town from Halloween Town, the Black & White world of Timeless River, transformed into a lion in Pride Lands, Auron becoming your ally in the Underworld, the 1000 heartless battle, fighting Sephiroth and the finally The World That Never Was. Kingdom Hearts III pales in comparison to the masterpiece of Kingdom Hearts II.

This comment needs more likes. I 200% agree with you. I know they wanted to showcase certain worlds and draw people in but they didn’t have to show so much of it. The only Disney worlds that should have gotten revealed in the trailer is: Toy Story - because a lot of people love toy story and wanted it in a KH game for a while Arendelle - because there are ALOT of fans of frozen. (I just wish Disney would have let Tetsuya Nomura was allowed to make the world his own) Pirates of the Caribbean - because it was a familiar world from KH2.

My biggest issue for kh3 is the pacing. Having something big happening in the middle like in kh1 with going back to traverse town and kn2 going back to hallow bastion made ot feel like there was some progression. If the aqua and saving ven was in the middle then we leave to explore more worlds until the keyblade graveyard could've made it feel better.
@Slater2113
@Slater2113 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand people’s fixation with this. Every KH game has terrible front and back loaded pacing but KH2 abandons the entire story for multiple hours before and after the battle at hollow bastion while KH3 has consistent nuggets of narrative between worlds with way more significant screen time for antagonists to show up and interact with the Disney element. If you want to go even deeper, you could argue that end game of DDD is the big middle of the story turning point considering KH3 is very openly part 2 of that game.

Or even just more playable plot-related sections. Like Aqua grabs a stick and takes on 2 of Ansem’s HP bars at the Dark Margin with just a jacked up magic stat. Or Riku and Mickey getting ambushed at the Radiant Garden plaza. Kairi vs Lea in the Mysterious Woods is a no-brainer.

In KH1 and KH2, it really felt like you were doing something while traveling between worlds. KH1- You have a clear purpose: save the worlds from complete destruction, and you defeat members of Maleficent's council, progress the plot of the Seven Princesses, and watch Riku's descent into darkness. KH2- It's to a lesser extent, though it's sort of the same thing in reverse: each Heartless you slay simply helps the Organization, and their machinations on each world ensures that you have more Heartless to fight; you also make some big revelations at the midpoint in Hollow Bastion and you slay two Organization members before the final world. In KH3, Sora literally has no idea what he's doing in the worlds most of the time; while there is some progression of things developing in the main plot (and sequel baiting) in these worlds, it doesn't feel like you're doing much of anything aside from killing time before the entire story finally happens in the last six hours.

In some fairness, while they certainly showed more than they should have, a huge part of the problem is how little else there was in the game that was worth showing. Typically, in trailers, you do want to build up towards a climactic scene of some kind. Other KH games could do this with boss fights against Disney villains or action scenes against the Organization... but this game has so few Disney bosses, such weak action scenes (the worst example being everyone standing around while Terranort picks them apart), they couldn't keep the trailers going without either avoiding the climactic scenes or just flat out spoiling major chunks of the end sequence.

THE PROBLEM WITH KH3 IS THEY STARTED IT OVER FROM NOTHING AT 50% COMPLETION AND GAVE US A BRUTALLY RUSHED COPY OF “KH3” ON UNREAL ENGINE 4. We were PROMISED “the most worlds of any KH game” which would have meant at least 16, since KH2 had 15. Not only did we get the lowest number of SINGLE-VISIT worlds in any KH game ever; we also got: - a shorter story than PS2 predecessors - less bosses - less keyblades - less abilities + growth abilities - less mini games - no colosseum fights - no sephiroth fight - no skateboard - half of twilight town + no inside mansion + no seven wonders + no mysterious tower - no hollow bastion (have we strayed this far?…) - floaty combat (combat had gravity before the reset, can be seen in D23 2013 trailer). The ones we need to crack down on as fans are the square enix executives controlling budget and timing. They’re the bad guys, not Nomura. He’s always been limited by their budgets and gimmicky Pokémon-handheld-money-saving ideas. The truth is every KH game should’ve been a console title, imagine 358/2 Days on PS2 instead of Nintendo DS, playing as the whole organization with their own full movesets and experiencing the story of Roxas and Xion with proper hardware - they even had the chance to Re:Make that title specifically and chose to do an inadequate cinematic rather than spend money on what we deserve. If that blew your mind, imagine BBS and DDD as the PS3 games they each should’ve been, designed to use more powerful hardware with proper camera angles and better graphics, complete with a full abilities system and command deck with L1 shortcuts. Nomura has been a mastermind crafting this amazing story and has always found a way to make a great game, despite being at the sheer mercy of greedy square execs along the way. But the issue is they always make millions off of us regardless, they can afford to take extra time and expand their team size as necessary to make sure we get what we’re so passionate about as fans. KH fans aren’t just regular fans. They’re special. WE’RE SPECIAL. Square is lucky to have a fan base like us, who hangs on through all hell for what we believe in. For me the finale with the 10000 heartless battle felt like a let down because of how many weren't actually enemies. We're sitting on the ps4 yet it didn't do anything close to what the ps2 did with the 1000 heartless battle. Also how incompetent they constantly made sora and the others seem Like they're supposed to be masters and they just get taken out so easily. Especially Kairi (granted remind did fix that a bit but initially she just gets grabbed my xemnas and it's oh no sora come save me again) Like all the characters felt like they got a massive nerf compared to KH2 Sora legit cuts through 6 buildings, and essentially fights a sentient castle controlled by xemnas in KH2

The original 1000 Heartless battle was more impressive because you were all on your own and you had these flashy Reaction Commands to wipe out dozens at a time. There was the Mountain Coaster finisher, but it wasn't quite as impressive as against the Rock Titan. This series is a frequent offender of "Cutscene Incompetence". Sora is the only one who tried to fight back against Terranort, but TN blocked him with a move that is never seen in any other scene or fight. It threw in fake tension and apparent hopelessness when it was just bad writing. I always picture that Kairi could have just switched her Keyblade to her free hand and shanked Xemnas. Or, you know, Sora, Roxas or Xion could have attacked Xemnas to rescue Kairi. (But the "talking rather than fighting the dangerous enemy" trope is very common in this series.)

I think odds of me dying in kh3 heartless battle were higher than in kh2. You must've forgotten how many times the cast lost or was useless in kh2. Kairi got kidnapped there and was defeated by heartless as usual. At least in kh3 she fought with us and wasn't just removed when cutscene was done playing. Riku was mostly... Similar as in kh3, except that you can play as him during few more moments in kh3. I do agree Mickey was more useful in kh2 than base kh3... Kinda. I do agree slicing through buildings in split second is cool, but so is summoning a giant tower or riding a flaming lion or smacking people with giant frying pan. Which is why I can't wait for reaction commands which come in kh4. At least Donald and Goofy are far better in kh3.

@@dragonblade8270 ReMind introduced many things, but it came too little too late. First, the game's general pacing was just terrible, the first 3/4 of the game barely touched on the main plot and everything was shoved in your face in the last quarter when the game just felt like a boss rush. The Disney worlds were still very inconsistent in quality which is a problem since they make up a huge portion of the game. What I meant by too late, the DLC came out some time after the main release, after 20 years of build hype, the anticipation was ruined by a lackluster main release, and when the DLC came out the anticipation has fizzled out and it just wasn't the kind of experience that left me satisfied with KH3 ultimately. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my second play-through of KH3 with the new add-ons and with some PC mods. But I never felt that KH3 gave me the feeling that KH2 did for example. KH2 felt like a completed title they spent time on when it released. KH3 just struck me as a rushed product made by a distracted Nomura who was upset that FFXV was taken from him. KH3 also has one of the worst dialogue timing I've heard, it was so unpolished there was this weird pause between character conversations. I thought it was just KH things, but I replayed KH2 and KH2's dialogue whilst cheesy definitely flowed more naturally. Things like these should have been ironed out if they took time to tweak the scenes.

An interesting note that I realized a while ago about the numbered games. KH1 is all about descending into darkness. The end of the world in KH 1 starts with a big water area (kinda like the final world), then there is a crystal cavern place where you exit through the ground, recap fights of the Disney worlds, Chernabog where you go down into his volcano, some tiny dark hallways, a big heartless room fight at the bottom of a cavern, and then a final step down into the final rest before the door to the boss. KH 2 is the opposite with a large sense of going up. All the way up the skyscraper, elevators, stairs, magic appearing hexagons, all going up. Even the final door to the boss is up another ramp from the last save point. The level design itself is pushing you to an extreme. Descend into darkness or ascend into nothingness. Very climactic final battle kind of stuff. KH 3 has a prevailing sense of flat in the final area until you finally climb a building and go up into Kingdom Hearts. It does ok with this and winding up at the top of Scala by the very end is fine enough, but I agree with you, the first two games saw you moving in a very specific direction for 1-2 hours of game time before the end and KH 3 just doesn't have that same feeling. P.S. I'm not positive how to fix this. But I wish a game designer smarter than me had figured something out.

I agree with you 100%. I love KH3, it's my favorite game in the whole series next to KH2, but I think KH3 didn't strike a good balance between the original and Disney stuff. I think my biggest disappointment was that we didn't get Radiant Garden as an explorable world. I know there was no real reason to visit Radiant Garden, but personally for me it's a tradition to have Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden as a world in the numbered games. My biggest disappointments plot-wise and how they could've handled them (my personal take): 1) Riku's character arc was ruined. After passing his test and being granted the title of a Keyblade Master, he should've been the one saving Aqua. I didn't like Sora coming to the rescue and saving the day, given the fact that he was still recovering his powers and didn't have the power of waking yet. It gets worse when all the guardians are reunited in Yen Sid's tower and Riku gets complimented for being a master and Sora is mocked for still needing practice. Really? Sora just saved their butts in the Realm of Darkness. Riku should've been the one finding the Master's Defender Keyblade on Destiny Island, thus granting both him and Mickey passage to the Realm of Darkness, because the Keyblade would lead them directly to Aqua. (In Kingdom Hearts 2.8, Mickey says they must find a passage to the Realm of Darkness, but suddenly they are already there?) 2) Kingdom of Corona, Arendelle and The Caribbean were boring story-wise. Inserting Sora, Donald and Goofy in the middle of movie plots was dull. In stark constrast of Toybox, Monstropolis and San Fransokyo, which all had original plots and, surprise, surprise, were the most fun worlds of the game. Kingdom of Corona: The purpose of this world, besides revealing the existence of the New Seven Hearts, should've been to give Sora a vital clue on how to use the Power of Waking, after witnessing Rapunzel healing Eugene (how Rapunzel connection to Eugene was crucial for her healing powers to work). Sora would realize that his connection to the hearts of everyone was the key of unlocking the Power of Waking. He would develop the power and use it the first time to wake Ven up. This way, the world becomes relevant plot-wise and Sora makes an actual effort into obtaining the power and using it, instead of making it seem like a happy accident. Arendelle: Aqua's rescue should've happened a lot sooner, after Monstropolis but before Arendelle. After being saved, Aqua would need some time to recover, being in the Realm of Darkness for over a decade would've put some strain on her and make her doubt herself as a master and as Eraqus's successor. Sora would then take Aqua to Arendelle, along with Donald and Goofy (after being guided by his heart). Thematically, Arendelle fits Aqua like a glove, imo. And Elsa and Aqua have something in common: both were dealing with tremendous pressure, both bearing a heavy burden they didn't ask for. Both Aqua and Elsa could've fought Larxene together. That would make an interesting plot point, would make Arendelle more interesting and relevant as a world, because it would serve an important purpose in the overall narrative. The Caribbean: After rescuing Ven, him and Sora could've both gone to The Caribbean for the same reason as Aqua; after over a decade of sleep, Ven could use some practice. While no real reason plot-wise, it's a fun world for Sora, while Ven during BBS was looking to make some friends. The Caribbean could be a perfect setting for them to bond as friends, while discussing Vanitas and Roxas (and their respective appearances). It could've been an interesting character development arc for both of them. Also, Sora and Ven teaming up would've been nice and The Caribbean vast world was perfect for them to show off some cool combo moves between them, since Ven has the element of wind, which is important for ship navegation. 3) I was hoping for playable Castle Oblivion. (The Chamber of Waking and The Chamber of Repose) After Arendelle, but before The Caribbean and San Fransokyo, the four of them would go to Castle Oblivion. Once inside, they would fight Heartless, Nobodies but also Unversed; Vanitas would be already inside trying to get to Ventus, adding a sense of urgency to the mission. Aqua was the only one who knew the secret of Castle Oblivion. She knew how to prevent someone for not losing themselves into Oblivion. So now Sora, Donald and Goofy would be able to go inside the castle without losing their memories. I was also hoping for more details on The Chamber of Waking and The Chamber of Repose. What's their connection, after all? Aqua's original armor was on the The Chamber of Repose in Radiant Garden. Both Chambers were never mentioned again. That could've been a good plot point to develop. On one hand the gang would adventure inside the castle to reach the Chamber of Waking (Aqua knows where it is), while Ienzo, Aeleus and Dilan and the FF cast would check the Chamber of Repose (Ienzo knows where it is, Zexion dialogue with Vexen in KH 2 Final Mix implies that). Having both parties working simultaneously would've been cool to see. While the transformation of Castle Oblivion into The Land of Departure was an eye candy, they never explained why the world was suddenly fine. Last time we checked, it was covered in darkness at the end of BBS, the main building was wrecked. Now, everything is suddenly fine? Some explanation would be nice other than magic. 4) Aqua and Ven didn't receive new outfits. After both their adventures on Arendelle and The Caribbean, both Aqua and Ven would receive new outfits. The three good fairies would have enough time to craft them. A new visual would've been nice. 5) Axel and Kairi time to shine. They could've given Axel and Kairi some spot-light before the final battle. The only thing that comes to mind is the Data Twilight Town. They could've gone there in a practice mission in order to unlock part of Roxas memories and integrate them into the replica. The Twilight gang and Axel's connection to Roxas would be vital for this. This would've given some closure to Axel, because he would then feel he was actually doing something useful for Roxas. Being back to Twilight Town would also make him reminiscent of his days he spent with Roxas eating ice-cream (more like the scene we see between him and Saïx). That would've been a perfect opportunity for him to open up a little more to Kairi. Also, Kairi would also feel something because of Naminé. They could've visited the room in the mansion with Naminés drawings. Also, just a final touch, because both Radiant Garden and Twilight Town are now connected via network, they could've brought Tron back to help Axel and Kairi to navigate through the Data Twilight Town. Tron would show them that, despite being a program, he developed a connection with Sora, so the memories Roxas made during his seven days in the Data Twilight Town would be just as real. I'm sure there's more here and there, but these are the biggest for me.

Honestly I feel like too much time was spent telling irrelevant stories in the Dinsney worlds. I get that KH always retells Disney stories but it normally moves the story along in a more serious way. I found myself trying to get through certain worlds quickly so I could hopefully end up somewhere more fun and interesting but every world felt pretty dull with no wonder. I also feel like KH3 makes Sora too fast. The running is too quick and gives you little reason to use thing like "flowmotion". Youre kinda just sprinting through everywhere instead of really taking in the worlds like you did in previous games.

One of the main problems is how extremely irrelevant the Disney worlds are, and even the Org. Memebers that show there say basically nothing just shit on Sora being weak ( while literally being the most powerful version of himself) and that's it, in KH1 Disney worlds was the main attraction, KH2 Disney worlds were a mix of visiting old friends and reconnecting the worlds which was the main mission for Sora, in KH3 he just goes there for some reason searching for an abstract power of waking which is not a thing he can find in the snow or on a pirate ship. I just think os that they really couldn't find a find a good reason to visit Disney worlds or choose whatever they came up with first without much thought.

Not only that but the Disney Worlds stories were also worse overall. A few were good, like Toybox and Monsters Inc telling original stories, but most of them didn't even do a good job at retelling the story. Tangled, Frozen and the Caribbean in particular just send Sora on random errands to make sure he wasn't arround for major plot points. Frozen is literally just climbing a mountain twice, then being tossed back down again. Elsa fighting the people who capture her? Nope. Anna confronting Hans? Nope. Anna confronting Elsa? Nope. Have a fight against a snowman and some wolves and get off my lawn! Same with Tangled. Saving her from the tower? Nope. Seing her find out she's the princess? Nope. Seing her get tricked by the evil withc? Nope. You randomly run into her, escort her to the city where you're kept busy untill all the story happened off screen, then you go back to the tower for a boss fight. And Caribbean is the same. In the old KH games you played through the ENTIRE story of the movie, as a main character. In KH3 you're barely even an extra in the story, you don't even get to see most of the important scenes. And the bosses were just disappointing. All of them were random heartless. Why no Zurg for Toybox? Why no darkness empowered Hans in Frozen? The only proper Disney Boss was Davy Jones in the Caribbean and I guess Dark Baymax.

I think the thing that disappointed me most about KH3, was that narratively it felt like it was just "wrapping things up". In previous titles, there was a lot of reasons to go between worlds. (Think Xaldin trying to turn Beast into a Heartless, or the kidnapping of the princesses in KH1). KH3 just threw everything at the end. And then they made the big bad forgiven, like we didn't just go through the last several games dealing with him straight up trying to kill everyone 😂 The gameplay was awesome, and I'm hoping that now that there's a fresh start, that KH4 will at least be as good as the other titles in that sense. I'd like to feel like I'm working towards completing something when playing, the end of KH3 just felt like a bad fanfic.

*Possible Spoilers* I've read that Nomura was very eager to wrap up the story of Organization 13 and to move on, and I feel like the whole wrapping up feeling that KH3 gives is likely due to that. I think this is why the story was somewhat disappointing as well for a lot of people, because the ending of a large story is generally very hard to write in a satisfying way, and this is doubly true for a game that is as complex and intricate as Kingdom Hearts. I personally don't mind the ending too much especially with Re:Minds additions to it, but I could see why some people felt disappointed. On the flip side this means that Nomura has free reign to really take the story to a new place, possibly with 4, 5, and 6 all being the next real part in the anthology. With how good the overall story of the Organization 13 saga was, I'm very hyped to see what the future of Kingdom Hearts includes. I would especially love to see the founding lore that we got from Kingdom Hearts X come full circle in this next arc, which is likely going to happen since the next arc is literally called The Lost Master Arc. I would love to see story explanations for how Laurium and Elrena became nobodies or how they came to be a part of Organization 13, although this might be explained in Dark Road. Also I'm starting to think that Demyx is the Master of Masters, or at least is a form of him, such as his nobody. We still have no hints of this dude from anywhere, even with the lore that X provides. And as a lot of people have been pointing out, the personality traits and similarities they both have are STRIKING. Finding out who the MoM finally is in the next arc as well as WHAT he is, is gonna be the shit.

@@SikkTwizted Almost all the actual "important" story happened in the last 1/4 (or maybe just 1/5th) of the game. Normally the Disney worlds at least hint at important things, and the only hinting we got was about the Black Box, but we already knew it existed, so there was no reason to "hint" or "tease" it, especially since it wasn't relevant to the story anyway. The only important events that happen before the Keyblade Graveyard are Mickey and Riku trying and failing to save Aqua, later succeeding thanks to Sora when they went back, then waking up Ventus. I can't think of a single other important thing that happened before the Keyblade Graveyard, can you? And no, past games weren't like that. Most of them had some additional story after completing each world and a somewhat major lore dump after 3-4 worlds. After four worlds in KH2, you meet up with Mickey and learn about Radiant Garden's true name, as well as the Tron world, that the Organization is collecting hearts you free from the Heartless, and link up with the FF crew as they're working on the problem. 4 worlds into KH3 and you get Sora and Donald having a married couple spat and nothing significant happening other than Riku and Mikey are still trying to save Aqua and Sora is depressed and whiny about not being able to join them. I get he's 16, but damn was that a going nowhere plot thread. So no, the story wasn't as good/bad as other KH games. The only part that was on par with the past games was the final world AFTER everyone died. Because the part where everyone just gives up all at once (other than Riku) and dies was horribad writing just so they could say "Look! We fulfilled the Book of Prophecy! Now we're going to undo all of that anyway, but we did fulfill it!" While the villain farewells/swan songs after each one was defeated (rather than the whole group) was jarring in how it broke up the action, at least several of those were good/interesting, Roxas return was legitimately good (though Kairi's capture was utter garbage) I hear this was all fixed in ReMind. That's also total garbage because I'm not going to pay half the price of a full new game just to get the story resolution that SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE BASE GAME. So ReMind does NOT get to count as part of the KH3 experience unless and until such time as they include it with the base game for free, which will be never (or until a Final Mix), so it doesn't count at all and doesn't matter how much it redeems the story, the damage was already done. And that doesn't even fix the story AS A WHOLE, it just retcons the ending to flesh it out a little more, making the first 18 hours of gameplay still utterly pointless and irrelevant. Indeed, the only part of the earlier game that has relevance is Woody telling Young Xehanort he never was loved and never had any friends, which hits rather differently knowing he's the reincarnation of Player from Union Cross... But the rest was just vapid and pointless until AFTER the timeline reset after everyone died.

For me it was the lack of plot progression across the worlds. In previous games you slowly made progress toward your goal. In kh1. It was finding riku kairi and micky. Across the worlds we met riku multiple times. Found out what happened to kairi. Saved kairi and eventually found micky and riku one more time. In kh 2. The goal was to find riku and micky. And defeat org 13. Same story here. Progressively getting closer to the eventual reunion with multiple progressively close encounters and picking off a few org members before eventually reaching the final boss rush Kh3 the goal is. Find aqua, ventus, and roxas. Also learn the power of waking. We make no progress towards any of this across the 8 disney worlds. To the point where sora literally just finds aqua because he NEEDS to at that very moment. And from there we get ventus and move on to the war where roxas is revived and sora learns the power of waking permanently. The lack of progression across tge 8 disney worlds makes them feel like a slog. To the point where by the last 2 I just rushed ahead because of how close the finale was and I was starbed for actual progress. This could have been an easy fix too. Just space out the progress. Have them save aqua 4 worlds ij but hold off on saving ventus to give aqua time to recover. Go 2 more worlds. Come back because aqua has rested enough to lead you to ventus. Do that take 2 more worlds for ventus and aqua to take a breather andshake the rust off their key weilding skills. At this point Sora would have unintentionally used the power of waking twice. So while they do that he can spend the last 2 worlds trying and failing to summon that power again. Finally move on to the final battle. Let it play out just like it did originally. Only now there isn't so much progress crammed into the last minute preparations to actually feel possible

Imho it would have hit so much harder narratively if Riku and Mickey found Aqua near the midgame without Sora. That way we would have seen progression in the game, in the goals set up at the start, without changing Sora's arc in KH3. They were trying to go for this theme of Sora failing over and over, I think, testing his character with a problem he hasn't had to deal with for that length of time before - but rather than feeling like he's failing to make progress on his goals, it feels like the goals are just sidelined without any chance to meet _or_ fail them. Not to mention, the other characters end up stuck in the same kind of limbo (Kairi and Axel being literally in some kind of limbo with plot hole time mechanics), making it feel like the plot is just spinning its wheels until the last world.

I think the KH team should realize one major thing: Do NOT split the mainstream KH numbers apart for TOO LONG. KH2 was able to have more freedom because of 1 game in-between. It allowed for more ideas and things to flow more simple and clean. KH3 took so long that it should have been relabeled. It in the span of years, the series were enriched with different title games that became far too important to be a spin off. That became the friction between fans and casual fans into the whole kh lore/ Kh is hard to follow sort of thing. Love them as much as you want but it was poor case on Nomura and the team's on thinking this was ok and it wouldn't affect them in the long run because it did.

It’s time they start treating us like it and truly let Nomura make us a new “Best KH Game” with KH4.

I enjoyed KH3, but overall it was very disappointing to me. The pacing was wack. For the culmination of years of story to be winding up for its ending, the first 2/3 of the game feel completely devoid of weight. The plot threads that take Sora to the different worlds feel barebones at best. I enjoyed the design of some of the worlds, mainly Toy Story. But there just didn’t feel like there was enough reason to be in these worlds. We were there bc it’s a KH game. The lack of FF characters sucked and threw off the balance of innocent kids’ fun and JRPG edgy-ness that makes KH work so well. The last 1/3 of the game felt like fanfiction for a variety of reasons. There are so many characters that it’s nearly impossible to satisfyingly wrap up their stories. With heart travel, time travel, people who are other people, people within hearts, and other versions of people flying out of space into a doll to inhabit them to protect other versions of themselves (Roxas), the plot will end up feeling muddled and the audience will lose engagement. Even so, Square has told complicated stories before. The difference here is, the build-up for the finale was not sufficient. So many big moments were expected, and packing them all in the last few hours of the game like sardines made everything feel unearned from a writing perspective. Regarding gameplay, I think it works. But coming from KH2, the movement is more akin to BBS. Running has Sora moving too fast for his feet, and turning has him doing more of a weird, inhuman pivot animation. He controls like a car. It’s offputting. I understand that it was probably because the worlds are bigger and the players need to get around faster, but that’s why KH2 had skateboards and those little tornados in the Mulan world. There are better ways to achieve that goal. People have said combat feels floaty and I agree. Verticality isn’t the issue, lack of weight in the hits and strange animation speeds/execution are. I still remember how it felt in KH2 when Roxas swings his keyblade from over his shoulder and pummels the first nobody. It feels great. KH3 is missing that. Kingdom Hearts is at its best when it’s focusing on atmosphere, and KH3 felt devoid of atmosphere. I think of the lazy afternoons of twilight town in KH2 and how cozy it felt, or the cold, alien, dangerous vibe pervading the World that Never Was. The closest KH3 gets is maybe the maze part of Keyblade Graveyard, or the Scala fight with Xehanort. Everything else - all the Disney worlds - feel squeaky clean and lack distinct atmosphere to me. Even Winnie the Pooh, which was heartwarming and safe in KH2, feels bland in 3. I also just really don’t like the art style they went with for 3. The graphics are great, but the characters all look like cutesy anime characters and not cool JRPG characters. The PS2 art style was amazing, and KH4’s more realistic style also looks great. It’s just that in-between anime look that I don’t think fits KH. Also, why plaid? You could’ve chosen anything and you chose plaid? Anyway, that’s more of a personal taste thing. How I see it, the gameplay issues come from handing the game to Team Osaka. But I’m not too informed on all that, so whatever. I think if they can touch up the combat and animations, focus the narrative, and work more cohesively with their composers and level designers/art directors to build the same tier of atmosphere that existed in previous games, KH4 can be the best game of the franchise. With how much shit they had to cram into KH3 to wrap up the arc, it was bound to have more than a few missteps. You can do it Nomura! But no NFTs!

To me, the biggest disappointment was how they handled Kairi. It is legitimately the ONE thing in the whole game that I've still not been able to forgive, and I never will. ReMIND didn't do anywhere near enough to fix it for me, and Melody of Memory just made the same mistake all over again, to the point where now I don't believe they will ever give Kairi anything meaningfully proactive to do. All the other flaws in the game I can forgive, either because they were the same flaws as in other KH games, or because the engine switch screwed the developers over so hard, or because the purpose that the flaws build towards makes it feel worth it. But one thing I constantly remind myself is that Nomura KNOWS this wasn't the game he wanted to give us, just like it wasn't the game we wanted to get (even though I loved it for the most part). I truly believe that all of the things we've criticized KH3 for, are things that Nomura really tried to put into the base game but couldn't because of time and pressure from above (and from the fans, if we're being real-in fact, the fans are ironically probably the most to blame for KH3 being as lacking as it was. If it hadn't been for the insane hype and pressure on Square Enix to get the game out and stop delaying it, they could have taken more time and put in everything they wanted to put in in the first place. I don't see enough people taking stock of that fact).

I have a genuine question myself: Did KH2 REALLY have any exploration? Cause from my point of view, I disliked the world design of KH2. Not the graphics, but the world layouts themselves. Outside of the Cavern of Remembrance (CoR), all of the worlds are just series of hallways and arenas. They didn't feel nearly as intricate and deep as KH1's worlds, especially when it came to interacting with the environment. Miniature, but optional puzzles, like say KH1's Deep Jungle Flowers, or TRaverse Town's objects that can be activated with magic for secrets. Nothing like that existed in KH2, outside of CoR; everything was a flat hallway or just out in the open. It took Final Mix to actually add some use for Sora's movement abilities with the puzzle pieces and CoR, but even then they're optional. At no point in the main game do you ever feel like you're exploring anything, but rather instead, just being taken down a bunch of hallways.

@mistayoutubah
@mistayoutubah 2 жыл бұрын
@@kingleonidas2182 I think the reason KH2 level design is loved so much by fans is because: KH1 introduced highly interactive worlds which featured lots of platforming and active puzzling. It was a pretty smoothed out system for the most part, but sometimes due to everything trying to work within the same space and set of rules, you run into inconvenient and inconsistent interactables; such as Tarzan’s vines, Monstro’s “holes”, Atlantis’s Caves/dolphin mechanic, Hollow Bastion’s puzzles, Wonderland’s many odd ins&outs etc… and many of these features cause first time players to get very lost and have to run back to the start of a map every time they fall off a cliff, hippos lagoon or cave of wonders for example. The goal going into KH2 was to smooth this experience out a bit and make it more linear and user friendly so that “what to do” and “where to go” are always incredibly obvious. There are also far fewer ways to get yourself into trouble doing things like falling off cliffs, however the environment still manages to keep some interactables such as examinable objects, NPC’s, skateboards, trains, tornadoes, and loadable fights/mini-games/jobs. The feel is certainly different from that of KH1, however KH2 being more linear and easier to navigate encourages things like treasure & synthesis material hunting and journal completion, since you naturally spend less time fighting the maps to get where you want to go. As for growth abilities, in KH1 they made far more once-locked areas accessible via High Jump and Glide, where as in KH2 there are really only a few uses for your growth abilities and the new spots they can reach. However, since you don’t need to worry about platforming as much in KH2 anyway, growth abilities serve more of a combat purpose than anything, some being necessary for bosses like Sephiroth; and Glide is mostly just to help you escape situations and get around maps much faster, and it comes with several speeds and glide durations to upgrade your flight experience. It may seem unnecessary to some to Aerial Dodge up the Hollow Bastion borough stairs, or up the Twilight Town Station Heights, but I assure you it is faster and feels so much nicer than running like you do at the beginning of the game. That is the function of growth abilities in KH2, simply to make you fall in love with the mobility upgrades you’ve added to your character throughout the game, no real story purpose (unless you want 100%). One could argue that the premise of KH2 growth abilities is what inspired the inevitable flow motion, simply seeking MORE mobility. KH3’s maps look to add back some of what was lost in KH1 maps with the ability to fall of cliffs, but also adds the ability to quickly correct almost any platforming mistake with the use of a single wall run or airstep. It takes advantage of the hardware and allows for the largest areas without a transition even for some underwater areas, however some areas still reasonably have to be transitioned (Andy’s house to the toy store), all while the map stays neat and concise and free of any Tarzan vines and allows room to use flow motion. The only thing KH3 messed up bad with on maps was putting less than half of Twilight town, no hollow bastion, and choosing to only do 5 worlds with a single visit each and almost no mini-games/jobs/fights, also I found the scope of some worlds to be a bit overwhelming when doing things like hunting treasure (Big Hero 6 and Pirates), but that could be viewed as a good thing due to content, as those are also my two favorite worlds in the game. It just kinda felt like a lot to see and not much to do besides treasure hunt tho and I think the space could’ve been filled nicely with more side-activities if they had more time. I personally would take 15 KH2 style worlds with 2 visits and side quests, over 5 KH3 worlds with 1 visit and almost no side quests, but that’s just my opinion. I thought I’d break down the mechanical difference between KH maps though and why it is they made KH2 the way they did and why it is people tend to vibe with it a lil more than the rest.

@@mistayoutubah I think I agree with a lot of this, but I'd contend that KH2s Growth Abilities were far better than Flow Motion. They improve as you go (the only thing I think they missed out on was not adding the "faster run" that Valor/Master Forms get), but they aren't exactly unlimited. Flow Motion (and Attractions) just feel too...free? I'm not sure the right way to put it. KH2s Growth Abilities allowed you tons of mobility, but never felt like you were just ignoring gravity, for example. Flowmotion just ignores reality, which is just...weird. I've never played DDD where it was added, but the whole system seems a combination of too cartoony (yes, I get this is a Disney game, even for that!) and too overpowered, while also not being really all that useful. Conceptually, it also takes a lot of the mystery and feel of progression out. At the end of KH1, seeing Deep Dive for the first time with Roxas running up the building, that was an impressive feat. Now, it's like the thing you ACCIDENTALLY DO if you happen to push your control stick slightly off near a wall. It went from being something epic to being a plaything. And not a particularly fun one. It's kind of a case of One Punch Man where if you have all this power thrown at you from the start, it's kind of boring rather than it being something that unlocks and strengthens as you go, making you excited to use the more advanced forms. I also hated the "wall lights up" visual. I'm not sure what they could do instead of that, but it's just off-putting to me. I agree with the "lot to see and not much to do besides treasure hunt", and the only world that really had treasures to hunt and some fun while doing so was Pirates. I also agree with someone who said that KH3s combat was too floaty. You could spend a lot of time in the air in KH2, but the combat still felt like it had gravity. KH3 is like "gravity? What that?" . I loved KH1. I loved KH2 even more. I'm...ambivalent almost to the point of slightly angry at KH3.

For the keyblade graveyard, that is some other city. We know this because it existed during Union X, even before Unchained. However, the final world isn't my biggest disappointment. It was the story. I'm not talking about the plot which is fine. Outside the first two worlds and the Keyblade Graveyard, we don't do to any of the worlds with a purpose in mind. It was a huge let down. All it would have taken is a few extra lines of dialogue overall. "Sora, we picked up a weird reading from this world" or "Somehow Jack Sparrow sent a message about the organization showing back up" We would have purpose arriving in each world, and they wouldn't have felt so disconnected. Kingdom Hearts 3 is a decent game on it’s own. It looks beautiful. It’s one of those games where the expectations are so high that anything less than perfect is considered bad. I feel like the writing team wanted to flesh out the story a bit more, but couldn’t for time. This has been the case before with KH: BBS. The pacing was definitely a big issue. Another problem is that a lot of the Disney worlds didn’t have their own story, like in other games. It basically retold the story of their movies, with Sora, Donald and Goofy just added in. The lack of FF characters were also a let down. The FF characters gave KH more of an edge. Wasn’t that one of the factors that originally attracted a lot of people to the game in the first place? I think my BIGGEST issue with KH3 was the lack of character in...well, the characters. Don't get me wrong, everyone had a moment to shine in this finale. Sora was getting some really solid moments throughout the ending all on his own. But except for Sora...no one really did anything. We were expected to be killing all these bosses, and Sora technically did. You're the one who has to deal the last hit to end the fight, after all. None of the Organization was taken down until Sora got there. Which is funny, considering how much of the game paints Sora as incompetent and gradually getting better as he goes. Yet the competency of your party members is hardly conveyed. I think the most egregious example is Aqua, so she's the only one I'll go on about for a few paragraphs. Her first fight in years since returning to the Realm of Light was against Vanitas. I understand, the developers must've wanted that moment to feel all the more special for Aqua. And believe me, it did! Issue is, Aqua does not come off to me as a person who needs to prove their worth through pride. She knows she's a Master at the Keyblade. Her self-driven purpose at the end of BBS was to keep her friends safe. She quite literally said she'd protect Ventus forever if she had to. And yes, we saw her do that when she took the fireball to the face. She was going to throw herself in front of everything for her friends. The issue is, that paints her as incompetent. The fact that Vanitas got the upper-hand at all was just there to create drama. If Aqua had truly been deadset on protecting Ventus, she would've let Sora fight with her. Or even, told Sora to keep Ventus safe. Instead, Sora stands behind that barrier doing nothing, which then paints HIM as incompetent. Ventus' sleeping body is left completely vulnerable once Vanitas cracks that glass. The only one to act was Aqua, to paint her as a friend who would do anything to protect Ventus. Except, there was so many other things that could've happened and still could've led to the same outcome, of Ventus needing to break through the barrier to save her. I thought that scene was still great, with Ventus waking up at last to leap to Aqua's aid and defend her. But it just falls apart after that, the moment Vanitas realises he might have to fight Ventus and Sora at the same time as Aqua, if she got back up. It just doesn't line up with the way the characters have been portrayed until now. Aqua is the Master, Sora and Ventus weren't. That she would fail to perceive how much of a threat Vanitas served, trying to show how strong she was in a 1v1 when her friend's sleeping body was right there, instead of taking the extra help from Sora. It's just a failure on the writers at that point. There's similar instances of this throughout the rest of the end-game. The reunion scene between Terra, Aqua and Ventus is very touching, the initial set-up with Terra-Xehanort knocking Ventus cold, only to have the Lingering Will return to defend his friends. It's good shit. It's just not capitalized on well enough. There's not enough weight given to Ventus being struck down by his friend's own hand before everyone else just starts falling. The Lingering Will appears for a few minutes, then dies "off-screen". And the boss fight with Terra-Xehanort is just another one in the gauntlet fight up until that point. It doesn't get a good amount of weight behind it unless you REALLY fell in love with these characters. And I did, believe me. This shit made me cry the first time I saw it. But on subsequent playthroughs and story-watches, I just didn't feel like much of anything at the end of KH3 was given enough screen-time. All the Organization members getting killed off one by one, that's fine. But their fights are all lumped together. You barely get the time to reminisce on a character after they die before you get thrown straight back into the fight and you repeat the process till you're back in the hallways of the Graveyard. It feels disingenuous, after getting to know all these characters for all these years. Their little moments as they die are very neat, but considering that's all they get? It's sad. I could also go on to say how little Kairi, Xion and Roxas get by the end of the game. Xion and Roxas don't appear until the final act, the 3rd to last boss fight in the main scenario (or fourth, if you did Aqua and Ventus afterwards). Roxas apparently becomes irrelevant after that, because he gets exactly one more spoken line after that moment and goes mute the rest of the game. Xion gets a nice moment with Sora, letting him know that Kairi would be alright. But that's it! Neither of them have any more impact until Re:Mind. You'd think Roxas and Sora could have some seriously good character moments after all that, the two who really wanted to meet each other back in KH2 could have a proper conversation finally. And while it does get swept under the rug because there's more serious matters to tend to, that's just what annoys me. There was always something that was more pressing whenever something interesting could happen between any of these characters. Ventus and Sora finally beat Vanitas, but can't stick around to think about that, because Terra is still here. Can't stick around to check if Aqua, Terra and Ventus are okay, because they can take care of themselves and Sora has more people to help. Can't stick around to finally have a conversation with Roxas and Xion because Kairi got kidnapped. Can't stick around to talk with the Guardians before the final battle (like we had in KH2, I wanna point out) because Xehanort is summoning Kingdom Hearts. Sora can't catch a break to talk to a single one of these characters because the ending of KH3 moves at such a breakneck speed. There's always SOMETHING the writers were putting in front of us that told us "No, you can't see Roxas and Ventus meet each other, go do the final boss. No, you can't bear witness to Terra and Riku finally meeting again after all this time, go do the final boss." There's just so many stuff that could've been interesting, but none of it was as fulfilling as it could've been. Maybe that's just me being a hyper-active fan who was rabid for more. But the little we got just serves to remind me of all that potential, and how none of it was really used.

I remember when KH III got announced I immediately thought about the worlds being massive (which we got) but I also thought that it would take us around 10+ hours to beat each of them… Sadly, compared to KH I & II, there are NO second visits in KH III, not even a keyhole to seal, so for me, beating the worlds felt less satisfying and somehow made the experience feel very short, even though the worlds are bigger. I think these second visits added so much replay value and it gave a lot of room to tell the the world’s plot as well as expanding and moving forward with the main plot. So in KH III we didn’t actually deal with the main plot until the very end, which made things feel so rushed. I hope they bring that balance back in KH IV.

For me, it was the lack of sadness when the team died. I would rather have Sora be depressed in that sequence and just have him be "thrown back" into the world then he realizes "how to bring the team back". Then rather than some heartless guarding the hearts, I would rather have the organization 13 members be the one we are fighting in a one-on-one or one-on-two scenario. That would give the events tok have more tension, which should be there considering, your entire team just died, rather than usual Sora just knowing what to do.

The reason I liked Drive Forms in KH2 better than Form Changes in BBS and Keyblade Forms in KH3 is because they gave players agency. You got to decide which form you needed and when you needed it. But BBS and KH3 decide what form you are allowed to use and when you are allowed to use it. Or if you're even allowed to use one at all and don't get grand magic or a finisher command instead. Sure you can kinda influence that by selecting your keyblades in KH3 and commands in BBS but it doesn't change the fact that in KH2 YOU decided what to do, and in BBS and KH3 THE GAME decides what you are allowed to do now. It also doesn't help that there's no way to extend forms either. Form Extender in KH3 just makes the command to trigger the form stay longer, but the form runs out just as fast. In KH2 you could level the drive forms to make it last longer. In KH3 you play Double Form for 15 seconds and then it's over, tough luck, try again next time. They should have made forms stay active longer by leveling the keyblade up or something like that and have a meter that allows you to manually trigger your current keyblades formchange even without having to build the meter up.

What disappointed me the most besides the lack of worlds was also related to the final sequence - I think Xehanort ultimately got the shaft as a villain. Thanks to a mistranslation from the original Japanese, his motivation is suddenly entirely reversed from what we learnt in the previous games, and he definitely shouldn't have had a happy ending after how evil he was built up to be. He even killed Kairi earlier! Also, we still didn't learn very much about him as a character and his backstory, and I think it's kind of lame that they've only really gone into that since KH3's release in Dark Road. Let's be honest, not everyone is going to play that, especially after the mixed reaction to the previous mobile games. I got so bored with both how stretched out the main plot was and the repetitive gameplay in Unchained X and fell off that game hard. Point is, I feel that Xehanort ended up being rushed and botched as a main villain, and he was the driving force behind all the games thus far.

At the top of my mind it would have to be the lack of involvement with the party members. For me it was always cool to see how Donald and goofy fight, but for kh3 they hardly fight. At points they would run around enemies or the enemy is right in front of them and they would standby for a second and then do one basic attack or one magic shot. No other way explain but, there is a huge difference between kh1 and kh3.

Also what I didn’t like about kh3 was how anticlimactic the story was. 7-8 games of build up, just for them to easily get terra back, get aqua back etc. there needed to be more of a struggle and story equally as courageous as their struggles. Maybe they could have added 2-3 extra hours of story or maybe reduced 2-3 hours from the Disney worlds in total. What KH2 did exceptionally well was finish part 1 of Disney worlds then focus on core story then finish part 2. That made it feel like it had more cannon story

For me, my biggest let down were some of the Disney world's, one in particular. Some of them really felt like there was maybe studio interference or something. The Pixar worlds did it perfectly imo. They told stories that were original and brought in Sora and the gang really well and I personally really loved it when characters like Woody and Sully got involved in the main plot towards the end of the world's. However, the narrative for world's like Tangled and Frozen was not great, Frozen in particular. I am more than up for telling the original plot but I want Sora and the gang to interfere not basically just watch it. However, Tangled made up for it with it's gameplay. Playing the tangled world was amazing. The different environments, interacting with Rapunzel and the highly populated Corona honestly blew me away when I first played it. Arendelle however, jesus Christ.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one, what keeps me coming back to KH1 is the last world and I wish that somehow Nomura can replicate the feeling of sinking in deeper into darkness into KH4 with the final world. Or if Nomura wanted to switch things up make it so that in the final world there would be areas only accessible to certain characters and the player gets to switch back and forth between characters until they can all meet up at some point for the final battle.

I hated the end bosses and their cutscenes mid fight were not done right, it took me out of the experience. overall I almost think that doing bigger isn’t the best thing for a KH game, instead they should think about variety across levels, not just within a level. I pretty much prefer different levels than enormous ones that end up being tedious. Love you mate, as everyone else, loving the content!

I love KH3, but I'll say what I didn't like the most is how small my favorite world out of any KH game was, Twilight Town. I remember seeing a screenshot of Sora taking a selfie with the clock tower in the background and thinking about how big the world must be. we got Downtown, the new sewer section that leads to the forest then the mansion, but I thought maybe we'll go up the mountain to the Sandlot, then the Usual Spot, and especially the tower. Also, central station and taking the train to Sunset Station or go through the tunnels. Basically, I thought we'd get KH2 Twilight Town but better. Thats what I don't like, but in the end, Twilight Town will always be my home, my sanctuary, and it does still look better than before. my favorite edition is having Remy (from Ratatouille) in the game and the Bistro. I love the cooking mini-game and am proud to say I've mastered every recipe. (of course, even the advanced ones.)💖🏰💖

My biggest problem was that the end of the game felt very underwhelming. With all that was shown in the last trailer it led me to think "Oh wow, if they're showing this much stuff, imagine all the stuff they HAVEN'T shown us," only to then find out that the only thing they haven't shown us was the final boss encounters in Scala ad Caelum. Also, the trailers and the info given before the game's release led us to believe that the Keyblade Graveyard, the Final World, and Scala ad Caelum would all be fully fleshed out explorable worlds like The World that Never Was, but two of those worlds ended up just being arenas for lots and lots of bossfights, and one of them a scavenger hunt playbox. In retrospective it was such a bummer that the most important part of the game was almost nothing but bossfights and cutscenes, and it makes you wonder how much time out of the 10+ years of development they actually spent on the original non-Disney portion of the game.

I would add the rush of the character reunions/interactions. I mean, Sora and Roxas are like the two brothers that never met, but when they do, they only exchange a few nods, and a "You? Worried?" and that's all. Also, some scenes were poorly directed. Like when Terranort knocks Ventus, and they all stay silent for a few seconds before reacting, or Sora covering Kairi from the attack with his body, instead of using the Keyblade (just an excuse for Donald to sacrifice himself)... A lot of things seemed poorly written/directed, and I can't believe the amount of effort they put into some Disney worlds, and how much they cut from the original ones. Anyway, as you said, I enjoyed the game, still one of my favorites, and ReMind made it much better, just wished they have polished those details in the endgame.

But summons have always been broken, So have d-links in khbbs and the dream links in ddd. The snail legit can make a boss go from full to dead if you rotate the stick fast enough. So.... Let me get this straight. Going to different worlds to find riku does a lot for the plot, but sora being told to go around to each world to relearn his abilities, most worlds he goes to has a sacrifice in it, or getting strength to do stuff because they loved someone? It adds to the ending. Sora sacrificing himself to save kairi. Learning to get his strength, the strength that was still in him but thought he lost, to save everyone. And the ending really wasn't convoluted. We were told since ddd that time travel to change the past has consuqences. It didn't effect them in ddd because it was dreams. They weren't changing the past. In kh3 sora changed the past twice just to save his friends. Which destroyed his body and sent him to another reality. Stuff we were told was gonna happen.

I agree. I played the game in parts. When I got to the final world. It felt really rushed and I went from the beginning of the world to the end within a hand full of fights. Would have loved to explore more and do more puzzle games. Happy with the gameplay. Fights are fun. Exploration seemed to be pushed to the side.

The voice acting was pretty cringey sometimes. I didn't like how in some disney worlds the story would start in the middle of the original movie's plot. I wish each world had original stories so it didn't feel lazy. For the gameplay, the movement just felt so floaty and it didn't feel natural. That being said, I loved KH3!! Solid 7/10

Something that I thought that Square could have done with Scala is something like The World that Never Was in KH2. We get to explore Scala and fight the replicas one at a time to progress since having to fight all thirteen at the same time was a bit annoying but even more disappointing due to that they all share a health bar (which can be wiped out with Ultima Weapon's shotlock). After all the replicas have been defeated then we would be able to access the top of Scala and fight Xehanort.

While I enjoyed playing KH3, I gotta say that for me the story was such a let down especially towards the end. Like they were able to make most of the Disney worlds actually interesting and fun to play in, but then towards they’re were so clearly rushing you to finish the game that it’s like no time or care was put into telling a better story and it seems like they had no time to develop it. It really left me feeling iffy about a KH4 and just the franchise in general as KH3 sucked out a lot of my enjoyment for the series.

For me it was the difficulty of the game. I expected a real challenge on proud mode. I wanted to feel anxious and tense when defeating a boss. I wanted to be with my heart beating out of my chest and my palms sweating when I got the bosses health low. I felt a no reward beating the bosses and no real part where I was stuck. I wanted to be stuck for days at a time on hard bosses, and be anxious to see what came after the boss. Instead the game was really easy and not rewarding ti beat 99% of bosses

Three main issues for me; how Aqua was saved and how Ventus was woken up, and how the battle at the KBG went down. Those scenes are absolutely astoundingly bad for me, I cringe in every playthrough. How everyone just stands there and watches Ventus get decked, and they all do nothing, then in a text screen of all things they say darkness prevailed. It sucked hard. I think we’d all speculated a lot on how Aqua was going to be saved, and Xehanort finding the chamber of waking, and maybe how Aqua would find Ventus. *None* of it was resolved. They gave no explanations. It was over in ten minutes flat.

What disappointed me was that for a game to "end the xehanort saga" we didn't get much of xehanort at all. Honestly I was hoping for a little tutorial like segment of the game where we get to play as young xehanort as we found out what happened in his past. In other words, everything that they're doing with dark road is what we should have had in kh3, then continue the game as sora similar to how we did with roxas and sora in kh2. However, I still enjoyed the game overall as far as gameplay and story was okay, we just wanted to get to the long waited climax of the saga. I feel like kh3 gets its bash because majority of the fanbase are familiar with the number titles. If they knew anything about the union cross series then kh3 will slightly make more sense. It sucks because most of my friends who are kh fans don't know about X/unchained x/union cross and I try to put them on because it's actually a really good story, I might be pushing it but it might be my favorite era so far in the entire series

Personally, KH3 could have a lot more done to it because it lacked so much. The worlds were huge but vastly barren. Twilight Town was so small and although it had people, it didn’t feel so huge compared to KH2. Places like Arendelle was so huge but barely had anything other than the Frozen locations in the movie. KH3 focused far too much on Disney stories instead of Kingdom Hearts lore. There were so many things left unsaid or were unclear but decided to focus on things that centralized on Sora trying to discover his power. This wasn’t a huge issue in Kingdom Hearts 2. Literally other than story plot, Sora’s powers were removed from other Kingdom Hearts games. The Power of Waking I do find to be crucial to the story. However, of all things, he found it out via Ventus helping him somehow. Did Ventus ever know what the Power of Waking was? Kairi’s character was handled horribly. I get that she was fresh in training with a keyblade but honestly, she felt more of the damsel in distress than anything much more than the last two games. I felt the point of her training were useless and made more to depend on Sora instead. Riku also, watching idly by as Xehanort was about to cut down Kairi and the only one who ran after her was Sora. The ending was feeling rushed and crammed. To the very ending, Sora disappearing and ending up in Quadratum was nice, a plot twist to reckon on. I did not feel it was clear enough on Yozora’s end why he was there however or what his goal was.

I'm part of the Kingdom Hearts 3 Hate Bandwagon. The game was wholly disappointing to me. I don't necessarily hate it, I had fun playing it, sure, but the storytelling, the pacing, the lack of content, the absolute mess some worlds were (especially Frozen) and that anime ending with characters dying and being reborn and having special powers that saved the day all of a sudden was just... disappointing. Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are far, far superior, and I don't care what anyone says. Sure, they added a lot of content in Re:Mind that sorta remedied that, but, no, that doesn't count to me. They sold an incomplete game with an incomplete ending in order to sell an expensive af DLC. I felt betrayed after waiting a fucking decade for this game. Hell, Chain of Memoris on the GBA was more exciting and had more depth than 3.

Honestly what they should've done with Scala ad caelum is keep everything bright and beautiful but have every home and architecture look abandoned as if everyone who lived their before found out a nuke was gonna go off. I think it would've given a creepy vibe to see a colorful place but with the furniture fallen over, the windmills being half torn, doors are left ajar or maybe scatter notes around the area from people telling their close ones that something was imminent and they had to evacuate.

If we got to visit Hollow Bastion, the Realm of Darkness, and Scala as fleshed out worlds with some of the major plot points occurring in Hallow Bastion half way through the game I think it would have been a much better game. I hated how the Gummi phone ended up just being a mechanism for us to bypass going to more worlds because it was so easy to reach people. Oh yeah, and the mysterious tower was in the trailers. Once again the game would have just felt more "complete" or maybe just would have felt like the pacing was better with more of these locations tied to major plot points, rather than ramming them all through at the end. I'm also not a huge fan of how they handled Roxas and Xion, TBH with you I think it would have been much more impactful had some of the "endings" for these more tragic characters remained tragic. Lastly the difficulty in Vanilla was way to easy, I wish it could have launched with critical and given us a more difficult and impactful secret boss (or multiple). With Re:Mind the game is actually pretty great overall though IMO.

The ABSOLUTE worst part of the whole game is that everyone talks like they’re either shitfaced or they’re just reading something. There’s no passion in it. You’re supposed to voice ACT. Not voice READ. It’s so infuriating how many of the scenes are ruined because of people not knowing when to take certain tones when. Like in remind when after a year of no leads on where Sora is why does Riku sound like he just doesn’t care. It makes absolutely zero fucking sense and it’s infuriating.

I say the biggest issues for Kingdom Hearts III were: 1. The lack of FF characters (which end up appearing through ReMind, just for Nomura to give us a bone). 2. No reaction commands 3. Making the workds so big that you can't enter inside a building/structure (e.g. Rapunzel's Tower, The Old Mansion in Twilight Town). Still hoping they make the KHIV worlds a mix of KH3's large spacious environments with KH, DDD, and BBS level designs. 4. Many of the new Disney Worlds introduced to KH3 such as Arendelle, Kingdom of Corona, and to a degree the Pixar worlds (Toy Box, Monstropolis), especially the former had some form of guidelines, restrictions put by Disney compared to the Previous Disney worlds from past titles. Ironically Big Hero 6's San Fransokyo was the ONLY new Disney world that didn't had ANY restrictions put by Disney. Speaking of "Kingdom of Corona", I actually was more disappointed with that world than Arendelle cause while Sora, Donald and Goofy had better interactions with Rapunzel and Flynn than the Frozen cast, the world's 2nd and 3rd acts had the trio stood out like a "sore thumb" in certain scenes, plus they remove mentioning of the golden flower, Sora and the gang never question about Rapunzel's long hair along with witnessing Rapunzel’s magic powers through her hair, flanderizing Flynn/Eugene's character, and especially having Sora and the gang be clueless of Mother Gothel's true colors while remained blissfully unaware about her after their first and ONLY time encountering her before Marluxia told them through context. On top of that, Sora wouldn't shut the hell up when he calls Rapunzel's name which caused him to attract the attention of Mother Gothel and later Marluxia. Just watching him calling Rapunzel (the second time before Marluxia appeared) almost made me want to shut him up about interfering with the events of the movie and especially the “world order!” Even Donald and Goofy did absolutely NOTHING and stood idle while Sora remained unconscious thanks to Marluxia until Maximus woke him up the next day. Shame on them. Even, the scene with Sora, Donald, Goofy and their first and *ONLY* interaction with Mother Gothel still raised Red Flags imao, and If I were in their shoes or been right beside them and if Gothel gave me the cold shoulder calling me "useless of no help" I too would raise an eyebrow and think to myself you know something feels off with this woman. Also, Kingdom of Corona itself raised more questions than answers when compared to The Caribbean and Arendelle, which made the world feel forced and linear cause it sure doesn't look like Rapunzel's journey from the tower to the Kingdom was two days like in the film, nor do I think that Rapunzel and Flynn EVER went to the Snuggly Duckling with the Pub Thugs and the Dam like in the movie when they separated from SDG from the Reaper nobodies, which makes sense cause when Maximus was able to rescue Eugene it didn’t look like he recruited the Thugs to help him out like in the film. I also don't think that the Guards were also after Flynn as it was only just Maximus that chased him which would explain his dialogue: _"The horse was enough, I don't need monsters on my trail."_ While I'm not saying Arendelle is better than Corona, that's not the point, but compared to the other KH3 Disney worlds stories and enjoyment, I'd put Kingdom of Corona way below The Caribbean, San Fransokyo, Olympus, Monstropolis, and Toy Box. Just imagine Sora & Company involved during the climax of the worlds based on _Moana, Zootopia, Raya and the Last Dragon,_ and _Encanto_ but have them be just "there" sticking like a sore thumb in the background not knowing what the heck is going on and doing their own conflict (e.g. Fighting a Giant Heartless), while the movies characters just primarily play out like in the movie but don't acknowledge Sora and the gang until after the conflict is solved. I just don't want Zootopia, Moana, Raya and Encanto if they become future Disney worlds to suffer what Arendelle and especially Kingdom of Corona endured in _Kingdom Hearts III_ if they become a world in Kingdom Hearts IV, which I remain pessimistic. 5. The number of Disney worlds being smaller than that of KH2. 6. Nomura's treatment on the female characters especially Kairi.

Preordered the game, had high expectations after KH2, found the game overall disappointing when compared to 2. My favorite part of the WHOLE game ended up being the Gummi Ship travel with its own boss fights and the awesome secret boss they had for it. If that part was isolated as its own game, I’d buy it 100 times over for all the unexpected fun and joy that came from exploring the space between worlds! But the main game? For a few reasons, it made me swear off preordering games all together. From now on I will only think of buying a KH game if I see combat gameplay is fun (like 2), that the worlds have more reasons to revisit (like 2), that FF characters are in the damn base game WITH SEPHIROTH THIS TIME (like 1 and 2), and the secret boss(es) are actually worth seeking out (like 1 and 2). Not even worrying about if I’ll like or understand the story going forward, that ship sailed ages ago with 3D and Re:Coded.

I didn't want it to be that way but I found myself kinda bored playing through the worlds and only time I was having fun was doing gummiship stuff, which was sad for me. The "Re:Mind" abilities did do a lot to help me enjoy the actual game's combat again and did fix a couple of things but I wish Re:Mind could have been integrated into the game like how the final mixes added stuff into the game instead of the new stuff being accessed in a separate menu. My hope is that they learned from their mistakes in kh3 and are able to address at least the more obvious ones in kh4. I'm not asking for kh4 to be perfect but I do hope it can at least bring all the community back together again cause all the fighting that's happened since kh3 needs to stop already.

Yeah, I can kind of see where you are coming from. For me, the Keyblade Graveyard wasn't that bad considering the graveyard in BBS was like... 3 screens. So I was expecting the Graveyard to basically be set dressing for boss fights. Scala I definitely was disappointing we couldn't explore that more until the DLC. I think my biggest problem with KH3 was how the story went to kill off everyone for the revival segment. Whole cutscene is so awkward and out of character for pretty much everyone that it just feels forced. For example: when the big heartless tornado appears, I really feel like Sora would have been the first person to try and fight it. But instead he's forced to stand around like an idiot and watch his friends die so he can have a mental breakdown that just feels so out of character. The whole setup for Sora's sacrifice is so clumsy and forced, and it really could have been written better.

KH3, especially with Re:Mind, became my favorite KH game. Even still, I have a few aspects that disappointed me too. 1. No FF characters in the main game. Look, I know Nomura said he didn't add them because he couldn't find a place for them in the story. That's fair. It's clear their appearance in Re:Mind was only done to cool down haters. Though understandable, I still find it somewhat underwhelming to see only a Cactuar, Ultros and Moogle in the main adventure. Though, personally, as a mostly gameplay fan, this barely affected my experience. 2. Roxas and Xion returning to be alive in replica bodies. Though I get that it makes sense for them to return if the replica bodies were used for the ORG members, it takes away from the compelling tragedy in 358/2 Days. 3. Berserk Charge being incorporated as a cuisine bonus and not a regular ability. This decision is freaking stupid.

It's a combo modifier. It should've been a normal ability. Cuisine bonuses should be simple stuff like Za tier spells or better stats improvements.

For me, KH3 is tied for my 3rd favorite game in the series alongside KH1. But the ending of KH3 was one of the best ending in video game history. The biggest disappointment for me was 1. The lack of other character representation. The game can be about Sora fine, but other characters could have got a lot more playing time. This brings my next disappointment. 2. The missed opportunity with the Aqua fight. It would have been amazing to get to use Ventus and Terra in that fight instead of just Sora. Ventus' heart is in Sora and Terra is connected to Riku. It would have been amazing for Ventus' and Tarra's Keyblades to present themselves to Sora and Riku to fight Aqua with a Silhouette of Ventus and Terra encompassing Riku and Sora. That would make it look like Ventus and Terra are still fighting for Aqua who they care for. That was a big missed opportunity. 3. The lack of a middle game. Again, missed opportunity for story closure. We know that Roxas fought Xion on the clock tower at Twilight Town. Well, one of the major plot points was getting Roxas back. It would have been amazing and satisfying to explore Twilight Town and eventually get to the Tower to have a reenactment of the Xion and Roxas fight and that on turn is activating Roxas' heart within Sora and like the idea from my "2" comment, Roxas makes a Silhouette around Sora so it looks like we are using Roxas in that fight.

My quick point because I haven't seen anyone point it out specifically. The cutscenes just take so long. Whether they have awesome stuff happening or regurgitated Disney plots or just some characters talking, so many of the cutscenes just take forever. The worst example I have found is right after Monstropolis if you have already beaten Arendelle. (I have been meaning to officially time it and haven't gotten around to it) There are like 5-6 cutscenes in a row ranging from like 5-8 minutes each. Wrapping up Monstropolis, catching up with the other characters' plots, showing Sora discouraged cuz he can't do no waking yet, and then Chip and Dale introducing new worlds that lead into the Gummi Ship of all things. (To clarify, I'm a pretty big fan of gummi ships but still) The time between the swing of your keyblade to kill the Lump of Horror and the next swing of your keyblade vs anything else is between like 30-35 min if you don't skip cutscenes. (Again, haven't timed it) I love playing KH3 but I really love PLAYING KH3.

My disapoiment in KH3 was that there was no trophies to win in Mount Olympus like in KH1 and kh2. I was hoping for a tournament in Mount Olympus facing all the Gods. Also the fact that Final Fantasy characters didn't make an apperiance in this Game. I was hoping on finding out where did Cloud and Sephiroth went off to and hoping to face Sephiroth again but width the help of Cloud.
