In this episode, Michelle Tefertiller joins Carrie to talk about critical skills for Kindergarten through Second Grade. Carrie asks Michelle, “What do children need to know K-2?” And, Michelle explains what you’ll want to accomplish with your children in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. If you have children in, or approaching, these grade levels, this is the episode for you!
We at Memoria Press want to support new and veteran homeschoolers in educating their children with truth, goodness, and beauty. If you are struggling, please reach out to our helpful customer service representatives, or to Carrie McGraw, our homeschool liaison. We wish you the best in your homeschooling journey, and, remember, we are here to help!

With all due respect, that is far too much. Here in Europe we are academically more advanced, yet we would never expect so much of young children. A Kindergartener who reads, counts to a 100, writes? That's not a healthy standard.

I find that so interesting. I admire the other countries that delay formal academics. May I ask if you follow the classical model? If not what do you do? I’m a better late than early for my family and just starting to explore the classical model.

@@Dreblueskies I started using Seton (a traditional catholic curriculum) with our daughter. In Germany - where we come from - homeschooling is illegal, so we had to leave the country and look for something that fits our criteria. Seton seems like a good fit for us at this stage, although we might very well switch in the future.

@@libertasinveritas3198 I’m sorry to hear that about having to leave, that is a shame. Thank you for sharing 😊

I disagree, my 3yo can count to 100 and do basic CVC short vowel words (granted not in sentences yet)... I don't think it is at all too much. Why should we expect so little from our students? A little every day goes a long long way

@@libertasinveritas3198It takes very little time each day to teach an 18-month-old human to read. I did that with my daughter and she could read simple words beforehand her 2nd birthday. She could read university-level texts before her 5th birthday. She turns 7 next year and spends most of the day just playing yet she's nearly done with Grade 3 maths. She'll more than likely start high school maths at 8 or 9. Homeschooling is where it's at.
