This will definitely help me from future outages. Never really had an outage for over a day so this was information I overlooked. When I was moving, my only concern was keeping the tank warm and water parameters steady. Thought it was the temperature that crashed my tank but now I think it’s lack of oxygen since it was summer and the water didn’t get too cold. I associated loosing power with loosing heat.

Oxygen and high ammonia will get you first before temperatures. Temperature will wipe you out in the summer if your home gets too hot. Too cold most livestock will survive. Just insulate the tank. SW is tougher for temps without a doubt but in freshwater many animals will go through their dormant phases to survive.

A cheap way is use a powerbank with usb air pump and a spongefilter, so you at least some kind of filtration and water movement. Plus with one usb air pump you can use multiple spongefilter if you a airsplitter.

lol - yes in the event of something like a natural disaster. Many power outages dealt with as an aquarist are shorter term usually 1-4 days where you can still get gas from other cities or they are brownout related. Personally here in Texas, I deal with a power outage at least quarterly usually due to storms. Even a half day power outage will wipe out some tanks. It's always best to be prepared. Now if it's a hurricane or flood, yes definitely there isn't that much you can do. There was a longer power outage here in Texas with storm that lasted about a week that you could still get gas from neighbors and outside of the city. I know some of the hobbyists in my area were swapping out generators during this time. I had a friend who lost a massive reef tank from it.
