Our 19ac horse farm clean up project got cancelled about 2/3s of the way through. When we arrived the weeds on the driveway and around the house were so chest high. The customer was in a hurry since she was in from out of town so I rented a mower and got to work the day she contacted us. You can see from the first video the work done the first day around the home and drive made a huge difference. The next day we started on the fields but suffered a few flat tires costing a few hours of work. We returned Sunday and got busy and managed to get what you see in the second half of the video. Between Sunday and mid-week, the realtor found a tenant who apparently agreed to mow the rest of the fields so our work was cut short. I'm glad the customer found a tenant and is making money on her property but it was possible because we jumped into action so quickly. If we get paid the final invoice I'll consider it a win-win relationship.
Update. The owner only wants to pay $1500! We have 30 hours into the job + equipment rental and mileage/fuel and drive time. This is well less than $50/hr. What would you do?

I can only say it's a lesson learned to all of us. Cancelation agreement in the contract and make sure you do get a written signed contract.

!I have several regular customers with 2 acre and less lots that I have been bush hogging with my 6 foot cutter. On average I would spend 1.5 hours on the typical 2 acre lot because I always go back and hit anything that laid down and got missed on the first pass just to make it look good and I was still able to hit my target of $100 per hour. (I don't quote by the hour, I quote by the job but $100 an hour is my target in my mind and most jobs come out more than that) I was coming back from a bigger job one day and got a call from one of these regular customers and ended up stopping by and mowing the place with my 12' bat wing. What normally took 1.5 hours was done in 45 minutes and didn't have to go over anything twice because the bat wing just cuts that much better. I cut my time in half essentially doubling my money. I still have jobs that require my 6' cutter but if there is any chance I can mow it with my 12' I always do. Production is everything!

This customer is now breaking down what we do, how we do it and the equipment cost to try and justify paying 25% of the project price. Problem is she had no clue of the business expenses and time.

I feel ya on adding all the equipment. I started with a 33HP Kubota 4 months ago and now have a 35G john deere excavator with a 42" brush cutter, a dump trailer, equipment trailer, 75HP Kubota M7060 with a Land Pride RCF3096 and I'm wondering how I'm gonna pay for it all lol. Now I need a 12' flex wing and a 30+5 or bigger GN trailer🤦‍♂️

That is such nonsense! I'm sorry for it but my 56 years has taught me that greedy and ignorant is the default setting for most of the human race.

@@nightsailor1 I was paid in full plus court fees when I won in small claims court on a handshake deal. With a signed agreement, it would have been easier. It is unfortunate and the first time I've ever had to do it. I actually liked her up to her becoming unreasonable. Any deal I'm not willing to take a total loss on now requires a signed deal.

@Otter Creek Farm. Bush Hogging & Hobby Farming is there somewhere you'd recommend online to get a sample contract for this kind of work? I've read and heard about people charging deposits to book the time needed for the job, and contracts to be signed and I'd like to set up something similar. I've lost a bit of money from folks that just flake and don't pay the last year doing the same type of work.
