Hey, you learned how to load the ebikes the easy way, front wheel first on the front bike, then pivot the rear wheel in, just like the rear bike . Bravo! Last video I saw you were doing it the hard way, lifting the whole front bike up and kinda sliding it in from the side. You said your lights interfered with the "front wheel first" method. Glad you figured it out. The Hollywood rack is awesome.

One quick note on the issue with having no tail lights showing because of your bike covers... You can buy a simple tail light kit at trailer supply places that are just two taillights with wires that go to a trailer wiring harness plug. The lights can be clipped to the covers over your bikes. You see them used when someone pulls a vehicle and want the towing vehicle lights to show. They act as marker, brake, and turn signals and simply plug into the trailer light socket found on any Sprinter van. There is typically enough cord to put the lights where you want. I travel with two e-bikes using a Tule rack and permanently mounted two LED lights to the cross bar so they show even with covered bikes. I routed the wires to a trailer harness plug and it takes care of the issue. When I remove the rack I just unplug the harness. I'm adding a light for the license plate too.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! We ended up doing the same thing and adding a set of stop/turn/taillights to the rack as well. Also relocated the license plate and adding lights. Feel much safer now driving in the morning and at night! Thanks for the comment and watching!

Hi...we are ordering the dry bag and exercise bands. Chris, I need your help, I find it difficult to strength exercise when traveling. We travel in a B van with limited space, no place for hand held weights. Cardio no problem but strength is a challenge. Chris, would you consider doing one of your videos with the bands showing how you utilize parts of the van and bands for your strength exercising? I would be so grateful...you guys have the best ideas of any one traveling in a B van on utube. I have adopted some of Chris’s tips and tricks. Thanks much Travel safely.....
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, there! Thanks for the note. We can completely relate to the pain of limited space to workout inside :) It would have been impossible using dumbbells...The bands are amazing and you can do so many (unanchored) exercises INSIDE of your van. You should hop over to my instagram page (@ireneironfitness). I show more exercise moves on there. There are even a couple of posts with me working out inside. I will continue to post more of that. Thanks for watching - Chris

You never talk about having a campfire. Sitting around a fire is one of the highlights of our days. While you can't have one at a Cracker Barrel or Walmart many of the places you stay allow fires. Do you have them?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
We actually don't have very many campfires at all! We do on occasion when we meet up with friends sometimes, but it is really the smell that gets us. We sometimes don't do laundry for 3 weeks and the campfire smell really stays strong in a small RV! We would get a small propane fire pit if we had space for sure!

Oh how I miss the Arizona desert! Your last comment (I love travel days) caused me to pause and reflect on choosing the RV you want to travel in, it's all about give and take. What can you live with and what can you live without. For us travel days can be stressful because after hitching up the Jeep we are in a 40 foot vehicle that can be difficult to maneuver and pulling into a gas station to refuel can be a 45 minute ordeal. So the size of your RV has a direct impact on your love of travel days. But when we arrive at our destination and I open our full size residential inverter fridge it all seems worth it.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
That's soooo true.... it's all a big trade-off of comforts, needs, wants, price, quality, ease, stress, and soo much more! When we planned this lifestyle, we were quitting our jobs, starting a new (unknown) business, leaving home, friends, family, and going into the unknown! We knew we wanted it to be easy, less stressful, and mobile enough to go and travel anywhere, with still being able to work and live comfortably. But, all that means a pretty small rig and that can be a tough transition no matter what! I think we could build the perfect rig for about 200k! 😂😂

I have a question. My wife and I been rving for 30 years now retired and on the road for months at a time. My rig is a 28 ft B Plus I have it all set up for off the grid all seasons. 500 watts of solar we never run low and love off the grid. We are setup to Boon dock off the grid up to 10 days at a time and all that great stuff. My Question the desert in these times with all thats coming over the boarder do you guys still feel comfortable remote from others? I carry because I would hate to be out there away from others without any form of defense and be over taken by a group or a couple of desperate people. Not all people crossing are bad, but there are some that are. Back in Feb when you recorded this things were not as crazy as they got now. Are you concerned now being all isolated out there where nobody could even hear your in trouble at night? I dont feel that way in other areas of the country away from big cities that is. Maybe im just paranoid closer to boarder areas we get. Curious on how you guys are feeling these days.

How often to do you get pricked? I heard they were way more scattered in the fall what with the winds etc. Have you ever backed into a cactus and what was that like? Are you afraid of spills on your bikes? And have you punctured a tire on them yet? Please dispel my fears or I'll be stuck in California beating off the crazies.

@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
The bike batteries will usually last us the week we boondock, but if we had to we would just use our van's lithium system. Each ebike battery is 120w per hour to charge so about 10 amps/hour for about 5 -6 hours. When our house batts need charging we run the gen for a couple hours to recharge.

Hey Terry! I have gotten asked this question a few times and I always say it is a nice to have, not a need to have. If it's in your budget and you plan to go more off road or live in snowy areas it would be nice to have. The extra 3 inches of ground clearance the 4x4 gives would be great. Good evening to you two, again! Thank you for sharing this great location and experience with us! Yes....the desert is awesome! I always say " I LOVE American deserts"! Others are great, too, around the world; but many can be filled with yahoos and shenanigans. The sunsets are to die for too! I'll be heading to Phoenix in 3 weeks for my annual work training. If we finish early enough, maybe I'll dash down to this region to check it out. Our of our town of Ouray, it is only about 1.5-2 hours and we start to get into the major Utah high mountain desert areas. We look forward to heading out there once our rig is constructed. QUESTION: I can't recall if you commented during your ebike videos-- do you generally just charge your bikes off of the invertered plug ins on your solar set up? Or, are you finding you have to run your generator to supplement the low angled winter sun? Those ebikes look sooooo fun in that kind of environment! PS- the grilled dinner looked awesome! Safe travels!
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching again!! Hope you get to check out this area!! We can charge our batteries from our van's lithium system, but it can take about 12% per bike. We are usually fully charged on the bikes when we arrive so don't need to charge. But we just use our vans system as normal and when we get low we use the gen to charge the batteries back up. 120amp charger so only a 2-3 hours usually per week in the winter. 10 days in the summer. Would like about 600+ watts of solar for the winter!

Hey guys! Great video once again. In this video you mentioned the generator repairs you had to do. Curious what happened to your generator? Our generator is having issues right now also. It’s starts fine and runs for about 30 seconds and then just shuts off... it’s really weird. We’re still trying to find someone to check it out but we’re having trouble finding someone that repairs them. Did you do your own repair on the generator? Did you make a video about that? Thanks much for the info! Take care!

Hey Jim. We don't idle the engine as that can cause long term damage to the sprinter vans def system. In the winter time our solar out put is low so we need to run the gen about every 4 days. In the summertime we can last about 10 days before needing to recharge. We have 300 watts of solar and 400amps of lithium batteries. Hope that helps!
