Hi Kenny, I'm sure you remember the mid 80's to very early 90's GM products with TCC solenoid failures like crazy. If you were a good and honest mechanic you would look like a hero to your customers who were just quoted a transmission from another shop. I was always busy when I had my shop, no advertising, just word of mouth and I was swamped. Now I'm mostly on the road at other shops or customers houses doing mainly diagnostics, and im busy always! Keep up the great videos and the honest work ethics!

Imagine how many dealers or transmission shops would have told the customer their unit was bad ? There was another channel and I think it was a Jaguar with a transmission problem . They told him about 12 K to rebuild ! He got lucky and found a specialist who correctly diagnosed the problem and changed the part for about $ 800.00 . Nice fix .

The only times I've had lockup clutch it was the clutch itself, replace converter. But that was on the four speeds. The six speed is a different animal, only have one of those in an 09 4.0.

I think conventional wisdom is that if the trans fluid is not burnt or looking really old then its ok to change it. I have also heard that the clutch packs tend to wear and the friction material is suspended in the trans fluid. So, If that's the case and you change the fluid the trans will then malfunction. This is because the friction material suspended in the fluid is now gone with the new fluid change. That is just what I have heard. I am a DIY and not a mechanic. I did a partial drain and fill on my 2008 lucerne and also put in a new trans. pan with a drain bolt in it. I have approx. 159,000 on my lucerne and it still runs fine.

To each is own. I've heard the arguments against changing the fluid in transmission but I've never bought it. Imo new fluid can never hurt a transmission. If it dies after a change it was dying anyway

Hi Kenny I myself worked for a Mitsubishi dealership and had a lot of work on the torque converter clutch lockup the Mitsubishi transmissions would lock up in every gear after 1500 rpm so it would be 1st slip first lock up 2nd slip 2nd lockup 3rd slip 3rd lockup 4th slip 4th lockup on the gear change it needed to slip momentarily to give a smooth gear change the other thing was reverse gear because the transmission is computer controlled say you were cruising down the road and accidentally moved the gear lever to reverse the computer will not engage reverse until the vehicle was traveling to below 3 kilometres per hour only then would the computer engage reverse which was a great safety feature happy motoring regards peta smith

Had an 88 Chevy Corsica did the same thing 3 times, first time I had the Chevy dealership fix and the next 2 I did them.

It is actually named TCC, torque converter clutch. I use to build them at GM plant in Ypsilanti, MI. It means that the converter 'locks up" which essentially means that it in the 'overdrive' system.

The transmission in my 05 Dodge Magnum Hemi is a 5 speed Mercedes transmission. The conductor plate inside the trans is prone to failure. the replacement conductor plate is a Dorman that has Mercedes molded into the plate in a couple of places. You can pay big bucks to the dealer to get one or buy a Dorman locally for less or much less at rockauto, all the same part.
