While I never expected to use a knife in a way that it was not intended for, life has taught me to that when my knife is the only tool with me, it will get used in MANY different ways other than it was intended. Why wouldn't I want to know how much abuse a knife can take? Besides, if we only watched one type of review we only get one side of the story. Heck, the number of "long term reviews" I watch where the blade has obviously never seen a stone are worthless to me. Re-stropping a factory edge doesn't give me any real value as it tells me that you don't USE your knives like I do. That doesn't make them useless to others. So, as far as I am concerned, make as many different types of videos as you guys want. I will take all the different viewpoints and add my own experiences in before I make a purchase.

I bought a Randall #12 Smithsonian bowie some years ago and the grip was nothing short of massive , it took two hands to wield it . After calling and talking to a rep at Randall's I took a coarse rasp and sandpaper and got handle down to a comfortable usable grip .

If you bought it in the 90's you should hang on to it. it has a top quality blade made by Camillus Cutlery. Since they went out of business in 2007 not sure who is making the blades for Buck now.

Well yes, the steel in the Buck 100 series sheath knives if pretty hard, at least all the ones I have. I use the Ken Onion Deluxe Work Sharp to tidy up an edge. I take it by "Trimming" using the 124 like a machete? Which it was never designed to do. I love my 124, and only use it for knife work. But each to their own.

When you consider that American workers want $50 a hour and a 30 hour work week but still paid for 40 plus hours union's pushing for paid vacation/sick time/ paid maternity leave for both parents (even tho Men can't get pregnant) Business here pays a higher tax to do business here (hence why so many jobs are now offshore) You end up with a $200 knife that realistically should cost slightly under $100. 😐 You end up with higher cost passed on.... No business is going to eat all that expense. More of a showcase. I get tired of the typical KZfaq knife review. It’s D2 steel. It’s very sharp and it’s a big look full tang like for the Buck 124. Mild testing but mostly a showcase. I’m glad it was original at least lol

Yeah, it’s supposed to be a tool but so often things become a novelty instead. It prob just comes down to a man’s wallet. The one who can afford high dollar stuff on a regular wouldn’t mind using a 200 blade as a tool

@@411Outdoors yeah most of the guys I work with when we go hunting they say you don’t mine it gets a chip from a bone or some I say no cause that’s its purpose a hunting knife you can’t baby it if your going to use it but I understand not everyone can just spend 200

I have mixed feelings about buck overtime. I’m a big fan of the 119, 120 and 124 but that’s about it.

I started collecting the Buck 100 series sheath knives back in the 80's and I still have them. Put them through a lot of hard use, and they never once failed me. Of course back then, one did not chop and split wood with a knife. In in 2022-23 I finished the collection, with the Buck 124 being the final one. I Like Buck knives. They have always done what I needed a knife to do. Sounds like your just mad at the company because they will not hire you.

@@longrider42 you’re not wrong and there’s no accounting for taste which is fully subjective but along with that i am welcome to my own preference and opinions. the buck 100 series (the whole series) was created before this generation of knives and the designs have been handed down to them and there’s not a single original design since the 1980’s that i personally would own because i think they are total garbage. like for instance look at any of their liner lock knives and you will see what i mean, it’s a basic design which is difficult to mess up and not a single one of them has a good detente to the point that they have a limp deployment…. in this day and age they don’t stand up and the only good designs that function properly are their older designs which are pricey but also are not unique. when you look at the knockoff in the video made in china it is an improvement over the original design which they have been making for a hundred years and one quarter of the price so i stand by what i said, buck knives suck. what they did right in the past is they chose the softest blade steel (420) and the put it on this thinnest geometry and people raved about their heat treatment but really that doesn’t have anything to do with it and their heat treatment isn’t great anymore and none of their modern designs use their older conventional knowledge which was and still is a bit ahead of its time. it’s like they were great until they weren’t and i feel like they’ve lost their way a long time ago. their only popular modern designs were designed by tom mayo and they have a lot of good going on but they aren’t even capable of making a quality version. and then their only ditch effort is to try to make military knives because they are all “made in america” but they aren’t good designs. people like their classic designs like the 110 because it’s a great skinning knife for hunters, soft steel thin geometry full handle which is great for skinning but there are still better options and cheaper options so there really is nothing special about them. northern idaho is beautiful though and i think anyone from california should move there asap (only jk the racists will kill you and the police will run you out of town). if there’s one takeaway from the original buck knives i would like to see more of is their hollow grinds, not many companies do hollow grinds because of the machining costs which is why they used softer steel which actually works better on a thin geometry and the rest of the world has yet to catch up. case knives also uses 420 and they run it softer and it’s on a thinner geometry and there’s more production value behind their designs like the stockman but they don’t really do fixed blades…. and i am mad that they wouldn’t hire me, i’m a hard worker i’m intelligent and i would do it for fun and bring experience with me and they were very rude which definitely helped me come to my final conclusion that they suck. and their newer logo with the anvil looks absolutely terrible

I agree. I always stop when I see a knife case display. I've never been impressed with Buck. My father passed last year and I inherited a whole box of various knives. I give them away to whoever wants them. Half are Buck. To me they are basically junk. He only had 2 Cold Steel. Those I'm keeping.

I like a few Buck models. I like the one 19 the 120 in the 124, but I wish the handles for more grippy.

@@411Outdoors for the 119 and 120, gotta go traditional jutte or friction tape. The 124 is no big deal, take the shine off the micarta with some steel wool, then when the blood hits it, everything will get nice and sticky.
