Absolutely!! Videoing yourself is so so helpful. I learn a lot by watching myself, and I can say that I've progressed more because of this (not the only thing, of course). I caught my 'mistakes' early. Many thanks for commenting!

Do you have a great bass teacher? They might help you improve your rubbishness :) As long as you enjoy playing, it's all good!! Making music is what it's all about!

@@bassrumblings Yes, I have a mentor who supports and encourages me. The last advice he gave me was that my bass playing would improve substantially if I could master note length, timing and string muting. So just the basic tenets of playing the instrument! 😂

I liked my Jackson when I bought it, but I see now that it was the colour that I liked best :) I love the Ibanez. Fit me so well. Slap bass-- I just don't feel that I'm advanced enough for that. It's like another dimension and I haven't travelled in the first one enough :))

I bought my jackson cus i liked the color too, lol (blue burst) ..yeah, slap is hard, but i like funk...the sbl slap course is still available to sign up...i signed up last year but hadnt had time till now to practice ...I'm hoping it will "click"eventually.

I liked the colour of my Jackson, and it played well. I didn't have any issues with it. It's in its case as my Ibanez is my main instrument. I'm glad you got back into playing bass. You must have a strong foundation if you started 10 years ago. Fender jazz bass, from my understanding, is heavier than my Ibanez, and since I have a weak shoulder (fell off my bike then surgery), I really needed something that I can stand up and play for an hour or so.

@@bassrumblings I just been wondering should I go back to a Jackson Bass, if so maybe buy some turning keys or try Yamaha bass. I like my Fender Jazz bass. My goal is to get a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass 4 string natural or Squier Precision Bass. I want work on changing my bass strings when needed. Thanks for your advice.

@@brandinwilson9613 If it’s an easy fix, then I’d get it repaired. I guess the question to ask yourself is: what are you looking for in a bass and what would another bass give you that your present bass doesn’t have? For me, I would like a 5 string and I kick myself for not buying the bass that I saw. Why 5 string? Ohhh, that low B string feels good!

I still have my Jackson, in the case. I need to get it out and try it on for size. It's heavier which is why I went for an Ibanez. Learning intervals descending and ascending, [I never know which is which.... skinny strings to thick ones, I mean] is what is keeping me back... but I'm remedying that slowly. And few other things, but I know what I'm after now! Hopefully those A ah! moments will come thick and thin (is that the expression?!) ya know what I mean :)

@@bassrumblings The Jackson looks like a 34" long scale bass with a wide, flat neck. My G&L was like that and I found (after 30yrs!) I prefer a 33" scale with a narrow jazz bass neck. I'm a Jazz Bass guy now.

@@rothloaf1980 I bought that bass online 2nd hand. It was going for a good price. I didn't know what to look for in a bass,... I do now !! I didn't know that 'jazz bass neck' was a thing, if you know what I mean. I guess, my Ibanez could be referred to as that... I better start playing jazz now :)

@@bassrumblings Your Ibanez is like a jazz bass. The neck tapers to the nut and appears to have one less high fret than the Jackson.

HI Rick-- Call & Response in Am --I'm not quite sure what your question is, but basically, I'm playing one bar of groove then another bar of fill.. and anything on the pentatonic scale sounds good. And your question about " groove in Cm and Fm 1-5-8-10 " hum.. not sure how to answer that. I guess you would need to write it out on a rhythm pattern paper. You'd have to sound it out, then write the rhythm out. I wouldn't know how to do this on this forum without a pen and paper or Musescore.. Sorry if this wasn't helpful, but just use your ears! :) I also think that the backing track helps sound out the rhythm that the bass plays in this instance. reply to this with a more specific question so i know what you are after.

I can now play some of CCR, Lodi, dream lover, I fall to pieces, Jolene, rhythm of the rain, born to be wild, stumblin in, first cut is the deepest, diana, do it again, venus, yellow river, gren green grass, country road, neon light, tie a yellow ribbon, get together, you're only lonely and so on to a level. Your comment really goes to the core of why I learned to play the bass. I wanted to understand why and how music is created. Why are certain songs better than others? Therefore I started with understanding music theory, intervals, modes. I want to improvise and not just play a bunch of songs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing a bunch of songs well, in time, and with the right feel for each note. My journey is a little different, I guess. Tabs do help with knowing which fret to play, but I'm really trying to read music - if there is TAB and sheet music on the same page, I'm a little lazy and will go for Tabs. Maybe one day I'll just read music like I read English! Many thanks for clarifying that you actually play bass!! and not just a bot :)
