Mixed use is only way forward. Residential, municipal, retail, restaurants, geared income, aquarium ! Detroit needs downtown aquarium.

I thought the Renaissance Center was supposed to turn Detroit around, all through the generosity of GM. You'd think they'd be embarrassed, because they've embarrassed themselves.

Honestly. Before GM moved in ,it was a mall. The hotel was in the main building and the food court became the flagship for all males to have. Another of Gen X kids loved it and the Trappers Alley mall. It was needed in the draft weekend

Agreed. Detroit needs an indoor mall and movie theater

A mall doesn’t solve the hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of SQF of commercial office space. The Ren Cen is just way. too. big.

I suggest: -Each tower is sold separately, along with the parking in those individual towers., Separate those parking towers with walls and badge access -Buyers are given constructive models that they must follow for upkeep, security, etc. -Being individually owned will allow viability of the whole to be more affordable. -The center 52-floor tower can be made into condo units. -Make the lower floors into supermarkets, dry cleaners, retail, 3, 4, 5-star restaurants, entertainment, -Retain a hotel -re-open the movie theater -The common areas such as elevators, escalators, walkways, and the like can be run by a management company Terry M. Wheeler, Detroit

There isn’t enough demand, it’s way too big. Detroit needs to work on creating nice walkable neighborhoods with charm. Single family shotgun style homes that are dense and high quality. The Ren Cen is ugly and dated. It needs to be torn down.

it means that GM has pulled out so many HQ operations, that they can downsize from 2 towers of the RenCen to just 2 floors of the Hudson podium (shorter of the 2 new buildings). My guess is that this lease will be GMs last in Detroit (GM vacating Detroit: Grand Boulevard's 4 towers to the RenCen to just two floors is all that's remaining)

Tear it down, move the Detroit / Windsor tunnel and expand Hart Plaza. Maybe re-develop those vacant lots into housing.

Outside of the problems of converting it to condos, theres a huge parking problem. There's also a food desert in that area. Whole foods is in mid town but you jave to go to Mexican town to get groceries. More planning for the planners to plan.

Well , so far , they're in brainstorming mode to figure out the future of the Ren Cen , let's start with Hart Plaza though , Get some company investors to Redesign and Reconstruct All of Hart Plaza , just keep the really cool Center Giant water fountain in place and build around it , then work your way towards Ren Cen , I'm thinking modified new windows , and hopefully turn it into a more modern digitalized building , with marble statues that Represent the History of Detroit , A more luxurious yet economic and fun modernized Ren Cen ✨️✨️✨️ a brand new movie theatre perhaps with diverse ethnic arts and Restaurants , ✨️✨️✨️

Iconic? There's a tall glass cylinder building that looks just like the Rencen Hotel. Designed by the same guy in Atlanta. The Empire State Building is iconic. The Renaissance Center is where you get lost.

Iconic? Renaissance Center: A symbol of Detroit's Rebirth. Detroit has been losing population before and since the buildings were built in 1977. I guess I'm proud of of it. Sort of... 🤔

The Rencen is a landmark, but I was never a fan of it. Demolishing it may open up a ton of opportunities never imagined for that portion of the riverfront. Maybe just keep the hotel tower.

Absolutely not! The Renaissance Center is vital to the City of Detroit's image and profile and also a gateway from an International perspective.... A ton of cooperation was put in place from all municipal participants and it would be blasphemous to True Detroiter's! Absolutely not!

I would agree with alanfortune3092, the ren cen is part of Detroit and "Demolishing" it is not an option, what's wrong with you? Detroit has been through enough. Just because GM is moving out of it doesn't mean that this can't be a opportunity for Detroit. I think there is a lot of opportunity to attract other well known companies back to Detroit, look what Ford did to the Central Train station. Ren Cen will be fine, it will attract more business to the Detroit metro area.

It would be hilarious if they tore the ren cen down and built a new soccer stadium on the spot with various living communities built around it it.😏

That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking while watching THIS report and looking at the picture of that building DEMOLISH the 4 office towers leave the hotel and the other two smaller towers….. That would make it easier to redevelop that entire area in a way that is not closed off and separated from everything else … definitely expensive but worth it !

Detroit Wizard of Oz munchkin mayor Mike Duggan wants to have a riverfront park just like Windsor Canada. Little Mike wants a riverfront park that stretches from The Gordy Howe Bridge to Belle Isle. Then there will be visitors' ships from Wisconsin and the U.P. docking along the Detroit Riverfront, bringing tourists to spend their dollars in attending sports events, outdoor music concerts, and other tourist trap venues in Detroit. Only the millionaire FIG family's of Ford, Illitch, and Gilbert will get richer, and more richer. Notice how Detroit munchkin mayor Mike Duggan isn't so concerned about getting affordable housing for the common Detroit residents. It's all hotels and downtown apartments that are not affordable to the common Detroit taxpayers who pay his salary and 24-hour police protection in and around outside Little Mike's Detroit taxpayer paid riverfront mansion.
