In this video, I talk about signs of mental wellness. Mental wellness is an important part of overall wellbeing. It involves having a sense of purpose, feeling connected to others, and managing stress. Mental wellness requires us to pay attention to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that we can take care of ourselves emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

In the 20-ish years since my diagnosis with bipolar disorder I have never had as effective an experience with a mental health professional as I have from watching Dr. Tracey Marks' videos. I believe she is a cornerstone for my finally (FINALLY!) reaching a point of balance in my life. Because of this I will very likely be joining the group you are starting. I used to belong to a bipolar disorder support group/Meet Up but we had no professionals involved and things sometimes got a bit chaotic until the group finally imploded. This sounds like a much healthier alternative and a good investment in my continued mental health. Thanks for all you do for us Dr. Marks and good luck to you.

I first reached out for professional help in 2020. Now three years later I finally feel mentally well and feel it’s managed. My psychiatrist and therapist have helped me so much. I literally owe them my life and want to give them the world. You guys are my true saviors and have made me an aggressive advocate for professional help to prevent someone to wait so long before doing it

I had really one desire since childhood...I realised that the OCD type irrational thought that I am getting after years of chronic depression...I realised in my case and many other case the main cause of depression is unfulfilled desire..if I knew I would never create any Desire. Because after u get depression the brain creates irrational fears when u see anything related to unfulfilled desire or dream.depression compels you to overthink ...it wants u to feel restless and unsatisfied no matter what u do ..even I was living good life for brief time (lovebomb phase ) with my ex narcissist husband I was totally numb and unsatisfied.

I would definitely take the chance to talk to doctor Tracey Marks! I'm 27 and struggle with hoarding (letting go in general) and it is making me miserable on a daily basis. I cannot even express how much it's messing up my quality of life and it's not even as out of control as it could be, thankfully... The only thing I'm relieved about is that I realize this is such a big problem I have, about my relationship to items and the past, and that I need to change my mindset. I've watched probably all of the doctor's videos here on YT (also on the subject of hoarding) and I feel better about getting treatment and trusting my therapist with this issue. So, thank you very much for posting these videos that are really helpful!!

Love this one! Also why it's good to read ancient philosophers for a point of view focusing on what's GOOD to do. The Stoics for the basic premises of modern cognitive behavioral therapy, etc. How to find meaning, what to focus on, what does it mean to live a good life. Even in physical ailments, we often wait for disaster to begin treatment, rather than prevention or early detection, but it's often worse with mental health. People REALLY need to be doing badly before they consider seeing a therapist in so many cases. A lack of focus on wellness, it seems to me, also creates confusion where people pathologize even some potentially healthy things. I've seen people seemingly mistake gratitude for "toxic positivity." It's not. It's an attempt to balance out the bad by focusing on some good!

I think if I replace the negative thoughts with pleasant thoughts and be thankful for the blessings that I do have. At age 59 I’m ready to start the next chapter of my life. I will try my best not to let intrusive thoughts in. We can’t unring a bell. We learn about things + grow from them. My grandfather taught me that I should always have my own apartment, wheels under my ass, and food in the fridge, along with steady income. I am blessed that I was able to do this after a divorce. Also very blessed with my pup, a ten year old Bassett Hound mix who I love so very much. So instead of allowing intrusive thoughts in, I hurry up + think of other things. I also color, too. I’m gonna try my best to think positively. Thank you Doctor Marks! ❤

This is a brilliant idea, though I’m sure you aware of that, but a major parts of people suffering from psychics disorder are also living a very precarious life and sometimes even end up in the streets. Would you consider doing a free or cheaper subscription plan depending of the incomes of the subscribers and his/her condition based on his taxes statements or whatever prove you the person can’t afford the regular plan? Personally I feel super excited joining a community of this kind, but on the other hand, I’m like, I can eat for 3 days with 20$ (im living in Europe) and I’m struggling to fill up my fridge every end of the month.

Can you make a video on Body Dysmorphic Disorder? I was diagnosed with it in my early 30s (I also was diagnosed with major clinical depression and anxiety as a child and later complex PTSD). I was given books on BDD (i.e. The Broken Mirror) and attended DBT groups. I do have an odd face but some find me pretty (even beautiful) and others "ugly." Many people have called me ugly, from my family, to friends, to boyfriends, to coworkers, but some do not. I don't have an "average" face. In my late 40s, on the third meeting with a psychiatrist (I learned it was his last day and he was not liked) told me that I can't have BDD because my "flaws" were visible at a conversational distance. That everyone that has said I'm not ugly have lied to me, that strangers that tell me they're worried for me when I say I'm "ugly" and that I'm not are "trying to make me feel better and/or lying" and that I "manipulated" my previous psychiatrists into diagnosing me, but I'd never even heard of the diagnosis to manipulate them into diagnosing me with. Why invest in treatment of a disorder I don't have? I'm very confused. He pulled out a picture on his phone of Lizzy Velazquez who is deformed due to a disease. He said if she can do it, I can. He asked what country people might not find me ugly (cultural beauty standards). Can a person with a big nose that is visible or other odd features have BDD? I've read that if you are ugly, it's just OCD, not BDD. When I began to cry in the office and the psychiatrist who said I don't have BDD because I am "ugly," my therapist came into the room. I told her and she began yelling, "It's just his opinion! It's just his opinion!" So it BDD based on subjective feelings of a doctor or cultural expectations of beauty? I hope you can create a video on this. BDD has ruined friendships and exhausted partners to they point the leave.

Dr. Marks, I have a question for a possible video related to this! Everyone says "regulated" now. I never used to hear that. I vaguely get what it means but I'd love to hear your definition, examples, how to know when you're regulated or not, etc. Do I have a good life if I feel regulated most days? Do I have a bad life if I rarely feel regulated? I can already hear you explaining these things the way you do :)

Hello Doc! I have a quick question, i have been getting weird episodes very similar to panic attacks since COVID, been to every specialist there is but they can not find anything..symptoms are really bad dizziness, nervousnesses, negative thoughts, no motivation, weakness, extreme derealization, brain fog, feels like im in a dream all the time, body pain, extreme heart palpitations, numbness, tingling in hands and feet, and syncope. They can not find a reason and told it my be linked to my mental health.. can depression really make me feel dizzy and like im about to faint all the time? And its even worse if i don’t sleep well or if i spend too much time without eating. I’m extremely tired of this situation and scared that i will never get through this.
