The gold skinned woman with the sassy attitude and raspy, sexy voice is Hwasa, birth name Ahn Hyejin, baptismal name Maria (that will be relevant later); the rapper's name is Moonbyul, aka MoonStar; the belter of the group is Solar; and the fourth one, who usually is noticed last, with the honey vocals, is Wheein. But everyone says once you Wheein, you can't Whee-out, because once you do start to notice her, you'll never ignore her again. They're all insanely talented, with Moonbyul, who was relegated to being the rapper, a good enough vocalist to have been lead vocal in any other girl group. She went on a singing competition for rappers called Second World, and you can guess how that went. Mamamoo as a whole went on a competition show called Queendom, and while they were in 2nd going into the final, there was really never any doubt who was going to win. They are the biggest, most successful girl group not from the big three entertainment companies (SM, YG, JYP), and get compared to BTS constantly. They essentially built RBW from nothing. In the beginning, they lived in a roach-infested rooftop apartment and did their own hair, makeup, and even choreography. Now RBW owns a 14 story building and half a dozen other groups, including the reborn Kara and Oh My Girl. They went on their first US tour earlier this year after 9 years and sold over 70K tickets.

Mamamoo first debuted in 2014. Their initial songs were very jazzy. All four of the women have been successful soloists. I will wait to see your reaction to killing voice before i recommend other songs from them, as i get a feel for the styles of music you like. I have liked every song from Mamamoo that i have seen/heard. This year has been a quiet one from Mamamoo. There have only been about 20 songs/colabs from the girls this year (should expect 1-3 more before end of the year). it was a bit slow compared to the 53 from 2022. Admittedly, they spent a bunch of time this year with concerts in US, and asia, plus other solo concerts. Some interesting news i just found out, is that Solar is in her second musical - playing another lead role as esmerelda in hunchback of notredam.

Unlike some groups, they don't stick no 1 genre of music. From R&B, bossa nova, jazzy big band style,quirky songs,balads... they go for it. They are goofy, have real chemistry (what with Wheein and Hwasa being friends since middleschool. Also Moonstar and Solar spending lots of time together), do their own thing, always sounded like adults, have lots of freedom in doing what they want and how they want it, are openly supportive of LGTBQ, all have youtube channels (although some are way more active than others) and all have the kind of "Like I Even Care" attitude. By the way, they even have a song that is actually called "L.I.E.C" :) There first stage only had 3 onlookers (sisters and a friend), within in a couple of years they had 7.000 people coming to their first concert. Moonstar if I'm not mistaken she is the most credited female lyricist not just of her generation in kpop but of all time, for a big part because she writes her own raps Solo songs I would recommend "Eclipse" , "Shutdown" and her cover version of DAY6's boygroup's "Congratulations" Solar, is a pocket sized power house, head strong, and leader of the group. Solo songs I would recommend OST Vincenzo "Adrenaline", "IMAGE (5:52 am)" and "Honey" Wheein, her voice is what you'll hear when entering heaven Solo songs I would recommend "Watercolor" and "Good Bye" Hwasa, could melt a rock with her sultry jazzy voice Solo songs I would recommend "Maria" , "LMM" and colab with rapper Loco "Don't" All 4 of them have lots of solo songs that have been success full while still being a group as well. They all can sing, rap, dance, having written music, composed lyrics.

Here's some basic info about the group and how they stand out from the crowd starting with the members in age order and their primary roles in the group: Solar (boxer) - leader, eldest member, vocals. Powerhouse singer and crackhead #1. Moonbyul (video director) - rapper, performance. Aka Moonstar because byul means star. Also an excellent singer. Wheein (artist, activist) - vocals, performance. Performance is their term for dance & choreo. Vocal backbone w/honey voice. Hwasa (president, mom) - vocals, rapper. Aka The Fatal Maknae because she makes everything she sings sound sexy. Mamamoo debuted in 2014 as the first group under a new agency called RBW (Rainbowbridge World). MMM are known as the vocal queens of kpop. You'll find out why when you watch them on Dingo's Killing Voice. They're a 4X4 team of all-stars who believe they were destined to meet and become best friends and their bff sisterhood is the secret sauce that elevates them to the next level of artistry as a group. Each member also has a successful solo career, as evidenced by MMM being the first group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group was still active as a unit. Their duality as serious artists vs total crackheads is legendary and they're often called beagle-dols (beagle + idol) because their chaotic, hyper goofiness resembles a litter of beagle puppies on a sugar high. Unlike most groups Mamamoo was formed with the idea of promoting them as artists rather than teen idols. They have the most songwriting credits of any kpop girl group and main rapper Moonbyul has the most by any female idol (100+) since she writes almost all of her own rap verses. In the MV they portray themselves as Mamamoo (the 1st Universe) and each member imagines herself in three alternate universes as women who are unusual in one way or another (a boxer, a video director, an environmental activist, a mom with a unique sense of housecleaning fashion, etc). The point is that all these women deserve respect rather than criticism for being out of the norm. Most kpop groups shy away from taking a stand on social issues but Mamamoo has always expressed their opinions via their music and their actions such as their effort to combat internet bullying (a serious issue in S Korea, which has one of the highest suicide rates in the world), their support for the lgbtq+ community (the drag musicians in Solar's glam band in Hip), and their efforts to be inclusive to hearing impaired fans by incorporating sign language in their choreo and signing with fans at fanmeets, just to name a few examples.
