And Sgt Benson shot the guy who kidnapped Carisi. The squad has history too. Before the squad, it was Stabler and Benson. Ten years ago. Times flies,,things change.

The impression I got was that he gave her the letter because he'd already spoken to Fin about her and learnt that Olivia had a son and a serious relationship. It was a way to give her closure on their friendship, especially after the convo they had in the hospital. He got caught up in his own issues and forgot that Liv was putting everything aside to help him, this conversation outside the courthouse always needed to happen. Hopefully we see a change in him from here on, we still need a proper explanation about why he left anyway (I think we'll get that when they eventually tell each other how they feel)

He never said the "guy" was the father and Elliot said who's the guy, meaning who was the serious relationship. Fin said he'd have to Ask Liv about that. Later Fin asked her if she told Elliot about Tucker.

My take on it was that he did it for his wife and he was out of his mind with PTSD and Grief. And he's not a writer. He's a physical guy. I mean, every time he broke up with Kathy, did he write her a letter? No, he kisses another woman, and then has catholic guilt and then goes home and does the deed with Kathy to apologize for kissing another woman. Physical guy. Not. writer. LOL. Plus, they had to give the character of Elliot something to be struggling with in OC, otherwise his character is really kind of boring and unlikable without Olivia. They had to give him a little chip on his shoulder and a conflict or the television show OC would be a snoozer if it was just him and Olivia happy hunky dory chasing criminals and rushing home to kiss at be married at night. Now....I would have liked that show! LOL. But it wouldn't have been a cop show anymore, it would have been Sex and the City. LOL. Anyway, I'm looking forward to see how they are going to bring Elliot back to our good graces.

@@weisselle Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was always Kathy wanting a separation or divorce. It was never Elliot. He'd be the one who would return with his tail between his legs wanting a reconciliation. It was always family for him. If Kathy hadn't given in, Eili would not have been born and maybe Elliot would have said something to Olivia.

Totally agree. Love that she actually called him out for that FINALLY. Fin *kinda* called him out for that in the scene where he updates Elliot on her life in an abbreviated fashion: "And Liv did not even know you were coming..." with the wtf dude eyes. But I wish we still had Rollins and Barba around to call him out on his shit as the episodes roll on. Stabler feels so entitled to Olivia's time and effort every time he needs her. I just wish Olivia still had the support of the friends she spent years building relationships with to buoy her against his bullshit with reality checks as needed. Instead, Stabler returns and they get rid of so many other characters who helped the show survive at all without him.

100% he did, I think he’s always been in love with her but his ‘duty’ to Kathy and his kids kept him from leaving and kept him from acting on it. I think season 7 showed that especially

I know, i hated that. They pictured themselves squabbling at 85 and he loves and respects her, and even if they don't get together i wish they didn't make her throw that to the board over Elliot.

It was interesting seeing Olivia tell him how her brother died... especially in front of Fin. I wanted him to be more upset about that / have more of a reaction than he did. He knew damn well what she went through to find and establish initial contact with Simon. He knew damn well what a loss that would be to her (although the show underutilized Simon's character criminally).

Agree completely. I always shipped it tho because in the early seasons, they always depicted it like she was the exception to his blindness... like he was always paying attention to her and knew when she had a problem and stepped in to help her without her having to ask every time. Like when she first found and was semi-stalking Simon, and then as she helped to resolve her brother's frame job. Or when he made the effort to tell her what a great mother she'd be and how the adoption agency was wrong to deny her application; that was clearly something she needed and deserved to hear. ... That said, not sure I want them to get together b/c idk if it will be written right. Like, he can't just come back after leaving how he did (right choice, sure, but horrible thing to do to *her*), make all these demands on her to help him out with his shit and his obsessions and family, lay all these expectations of support and aid on her-- that she more than met--, and have her just agree to a relationship with him. He doesn't see who she has become... not yet. He needs to recognize who she is now and how she and things are different now before I want them to get together. Idk... I honestly thought a path to it for them would be for Stabler to offer Olivia and Noah a safer temporary place to live (at his place) until Olivia takes down the gang that attacked her outside of their current apartment. It would be safer for her and for Noah for them to move someplace else while the gang is still active since they've targeted her apartment building. I *thought* that was how the writers would blend their lives and allow EO to readjust to each other, have Elliot step up for Olivia in a meaningful and non-acute way, and have all that EO growth and pain and goodness as a season-long arc leading to them eventually getting together. It would have allowed Stabler to *actually* be there for her and her family in a meaningful way that he's good at-- added physical protection from physical threats. It would have also put him in a quasi-parental role over Noah while living together, which would be super cute and way better than sending him to live with his half-brother in the suburbs whenever convenient, and it would put Liv in a position where she was constantly interacting with his family in the form of his kids and his mother popping over all the time and helping babysit/protect Noah... as part of his family not only because of who she is to them, but also now interacting with them frequently and getting that taste of having a large family that would be so priceless to her... without having to take Kathy's place to belong as a constant and assumed presence in the Stabler home just yet. I would have loved scenes of EO living together as roommates; hanging together in the living room after dinner, Noah put to bed, Olivia with her socked feet up reading through case files to take down the street gang while Elliot watches some sports game, has a beer, steals glances at her, and interjects small talk to break down her barriers and re-establish their friendship as she works/obsesses. Didn't happen, but it should have. Idk, now I just don't see how EO's intermittent interactions are going to be enough for Elliot to understand what all he left her though, what she has experienced, how she's changed, who she has become. And I don't see how he'll be able to convince her to take a chance on him again after how he left her and what it took to get over him. The crossovers here and there feel too contrived, as much as I love them, to occur frequently enough for that much growth/progress to be made in their relationship. They need to be interacting far more frequently than that, and it can't be easily avoided or escaped from to work. I see the writers just stringing the EO shippers along for ratings/viewers and never bothering to give us a believable path to a relationship. It's going to be seasons of this will-they-won't-they bullshit. Seasons of teasing promos with no real arc toward delivering a believable EO romance. Ugh. If that's the route they continue to go-- as they have for three seasons now--, I'd rather they abandon the EO ship altogether and re-focus on building two separate shows that occasionally-- but rarely-- converge. Sh*t or get off the pot.
