EPI member Ivana Parker, Ph.D., and a team of students at the University of Florida utilize a biomedical engineering approach to identifying the factors that predispose a person to increased risk of human immunodeficiency virus, commonly known as HIV. By looking at HIV prevention from a global perspective, the team analyzes trained immunity through the use of machine learning and proteomic analysis. Their research aims to improve HIV prevention strategies in disproportionately affected communities and to develop sustainable interventions to relieve disease outcomes on a global scale.
