@John Carvell ummm at over 18 moths before you switched Verizon already stopped activating CDMA devices, with the plans to fully discontinue the CDMA part of their network in December 2019(this has passed but they plan to do it by the end of the year), all Current devices since 2015 have supported GSM at least LTE, since they are moving to a fully LTE network, I am confused by you saying they want to lock people to their antiquated Network, when they are litterly Turing it into the same as at&t, at$t since last year shut down all their 1g and 2g networks and are in the process not doing the same with 3g, so it will just be LTE vs LTE in a year or 2, with no other networks on either Verizon or AT&T, at least TMobile is keeping 2g and 3g around a bit longer and that helps range and cell service

not only that but my verizon phone is used on both att and verizon and it works just fine i even tested one of my old android phone that a supposedly locked to verizon and i worked on att aswell

Your information seems to be out dated GSM has by far a larger spectrum of rf frequencys.

If the phone is a Verizon branded phone then yes. Verizon now sells all their smartphones factory unlocked. I use an unlocked Verizon note 9 on AT&T. Everything works. Wifi calling, volte, and video calling. Once you put the SIM card in the network updates to that carrier. Verizon unlocked phones today have GSM and CDMA capabilities. An AT&T or TMobile phone will connect on the Verizon network however because it lacks all CDMA capabilities it will struggle. Definitely buy a Verizon phone if you want a fully unlocked phone in the states to use with any carrier.

@@vg007v7 I'm not so sure how far back Verizon phones pick up CDMA and GSM I know at least the last couple years that Samsung Verizon phones are just like the Samsung phones you buy on Samsung.com. Basically a Samsung Verizon phone that's pretty recent is unlocked for any carrier in the states as well as international. eBay has a lot of great deals. Just make sure the phone you buy has a clean iemi and esn. Don't buy a TMobile or AT&T phone if you want to use it on any carrier. It won't have all the carrier services and functions available.

@@vg007v7 Trust me I have Verizon phones. They usually unlock them soon after you upgrade if they're your carrier. Or like I said buy a Verizon unlocked note 9 let's say from Amazon or eBay and Make sure the iemi and esn are clean and you're good. I'm using an unlocked Verizon note 9 right now as I type this response to you.
