Dwarven halls are impressive. Rohan's halls are legendary. Gondor's cities are breathtaking and Elven forests are magical. But a good Hobbit home is where I put my feet up after a hard day's work. If I ever did any.

Plus, while men and elves roamed the earth, dwarves nearly always stayed in their settlements and shaped and improved them.

So basically Balins expedition to Moria was successful for a few years. And regular reports were sent back to Erebor. But then they stopped. Obviously some people feared the worst but some kept hope. Gimli, his dad, and other dwarves go to Rivendell for 2 reasons. One is to inform them about riders asking for Baggins. The other to ask about news of Moria. Obviously we later find out they had been dead for years Things are pretty slow in Middle Earth. It took Gandalf 17 years in the books for Gandalf to confirm Frodo had the one ring (compare to the movie where it seems like only weeks or mere months pass)

Well ... it is only an assumption that the watcher is one of the "nameless things". Gandalf describes the Watcher as having "been driven out of dark waters under the mountains" which is where the nameless things dwell, but on the othe hand, the Watcher is influenced by the Ring, despite beeing unrelated to Sauron assuming he were a "nameless thing". We will never know what the nameless things are and wheter the Watcher is one of them.

@@Simon-rb6yy in the creation of Arda, Morgoth wanted to create his own music, so that created discord wich spawned corrupted things in Arda, wich makes them older than Sauron, these nameless things hated Morgoth, and as of this Sauron too, so yeah that's why it felt attraction to the one ring, because it wanted to destry sauron, the nameless things from my theory were spawned from that discord in the music of creation if Arda.

I'd love a story about Thrain going off and getting captured by The Necromancer. The greif at his father's death and the fact that evil had taken Moria, determined to take his father's legacy and having to leave his son Thorin behind. But getting captured by the enemy and getting saved by Gandalf before he sadly dies.

My guess is that Durin’s Bane was a Maiar that was injured after aiding Malkior and slept in secret, falling out of knowledge of Sauron. This would explain why it was weak enough to be defeated by a Gray Gandalf.

I came across your videos this afternoon and I'm really enjoying them and the fact you add some style to pronouncing Elvish and Dwarvish names. The American LOTR vloggers mangle everything or just pronounce the place names like they might actually be somewhere in Wisconsin. One thing - I'm presuming you're English? I can't put my finger on your accent but the giveaway is you pronounce Durin as "Jewrin" instead of "Doo-rin". Like the "Juke of Edingburgh" (although you Brits never called Duran Duran "Jewran Jewran" thank God!) It's the only flaw in your otherwise excellent work!

Lord of the Rings Online did a beautiful story for players of Dwarves returning to Moria in larger numbers soon after the Fellowship passed through. If the game had nothing else going for it, that story was worth it. Of course, it has lots more going for it as well, and lots of great extra story-telling.

@Al they couldn't get the rights or didn't want to pay enough for them, so they had to basically make up a bunch of stuff but not get too close to the canonical story. All they really had to go on was a few names. such a shame they just wanted a money grab instead of respecting the world that tolkien made.

Some people just have no appreciation of mystery. Nothing the lame arse Rings of Power show could do would top the dark and brooding atmosphere of Moria in the movies, purely because they will interfere with the 'unknown' and attempt to explain and illustrate what didn't need explaining.

Interesting that Sauron offered to give Dain something that wasn't his. I'm not sure the Balrog would have left Moria, then again Sauron was probably bluffing.
@_semih_
@_semih_ 2 жыл бұрын
Not likely, he would get rid of the Balrog when he wanted. Remember Tolkien described the Balrogs as the lesser Maiar spirits (such as Istari) and Sauron as high Maiar spirit. Only Gandalf the grey was enough to defeat the Balrog. And we know Sauron is far far more powerful than the Gandalf's upgraded form aka the white wizard form. Sauron wouldn't even need to get there phsycally to get rid of the Balrog, he would use his mind to crush and torment Balrog's mind as he did to Gandalf the white and Saruman the white. So he wasn't bluffing. Sauron is not Morgoth who was giving false promises even to his servants
