Why not start with making something simple, and then make quality passes over it in spare time? thats how game devs tend to do things. More Iconic buildings should take priority for quality and smaller less significant ones should be focused on getting done as efficiently as possible so potentially later down the line a few more passes can be done on those buildings.

Yeah, and when all the lesser-quality small buildings are finished, everybody can work on improving them. And by that time, the less experienced builders would have progressed.

yeah, that's what he wanted to do. But then the people building the big, high quality buildings started looking down on and being disgusted by people that built a bunch of lower quality buildings, because they didn't look nearly as good, but they were getting way more points.
@zephyrschiesser5408
@zephyrschiesser5408 Жыл бұрын
this project is far too big for that. Most teams just don't have the resources to keep track of partially done builds on top of the ones they already have to do (it also has the problem of having to constantly have to go back to old areas, so it's difficult to gauge real progress).

TLDW - There are some people who like to build quality buildings, and some who prefer to output more building faster with less detailed designs. For this project more building is better bcs of the scale. But quality is still nice. So since people have opposing views on things there was anger and arguments, and there are some reports of region leaders telling people to redo their work to a higher standard. Part of the problem is that there is a point value tied to each building, i.e. a boeing warehouse only gets one point like that shed a guy built in 5 seconds. Competition existing and people get salty. This is already too long so k thanks.

thanks for the summary, i'm hoping him or the community just get on working as well instead of having a philosophical enlightenment about project management. I've waited 10 years for a Fallout New Vegas mod, surely they can give themselves a massive leeway of deadline considering this is just a hobby project and people shouldn't be stressed and frustrated about it.

God Bless! And also, He doesn't want you to go to Hell, but He wants you to go to Heaven with Him but you have to be Saved. How do I get Saved you might ask? Here are the steps below on how to get Saved! 1. Confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and ask forgiveness for your sins and Turn away from your sins. If you sin again after asking forgiveness of that sin, ask forgiveness again and try not to do it ever again. Jesus will forgive you! 2. Believe that God sent His Son (Jesus) to die on a cross for your sins and that He rose again from the dead 3 days later. 3. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life and for Him to be your Lord and Savior forever. 4. Pippen you may not remember me but I was previously a VERY active member in the community several years ago. I was one of the original builder for Brooklyn until MineFact completely threw away our work without ever speaking to us. So to claim quality builders are appreciated when the poster child of BTE, MineFact, was built upon disregarding hundreds of hours of work of individual quality builders instead for automation is genuinely insulting. They could’ve grandfathered in the old builds but they didn’t. Even putting that aside though, there was another MUCH more pressing issue. This inner conflict is NOT from quality vs quantity. I was a vocal member of the suggestions channel as well. I can say with 100% absolute certainty that the issue with BTE was the administration. Admins and Mods taking complete advantage of their positions. And I’m sorry to say but your inattentiveness of the discord server and failure to address these individuals led to a disconnect between the staff and the builders. Banning, kicking, and muting people who they disagreed with, completely breaking the rules they we’re supposed to be upholding, and outright bullying members of the community. Pippen, I forgave you for the abusive staff. There was no way you could’ve known they would do things like that. But the reason that I no longer contribute to this project that I had so actively pushed for and advertised throughout the minecraft community is because you didn’t ever address the issue. I’m sorry but no, the inner conflict was never about builders vs builders. It was about builders vs staff. -Sincerely, someone who used to care very deeply about this project.

Tbh, I had 0 context for what the video was gonna be about, so hearing about napoleon and having no clue why, almost got me to leave the video lol. I see the value in what he's trying to do, just think the execution could use a little work. He's storytelling, which is great and can be engaging, but as with any story, would be far more impactful if we had even a hint of what he was getting at before he goes on a tangent about a short French man. Besides, the whole "don't listen to x comments" sounds like why this project goes haywire at times. Gotta listen to the feedback when conducting a project like this, whether it's what you want to hear or not. There's value in your appreciation for it, but likewise for the opposite. So the plugging the ears view because it doesn't jump on a bandwagon does more harm than good.

I like how you think man. You see the patterns in behavior and then actually care to figure out why they occur. Not to mention linking the behavior pattern from historic times to modern day, that's pretty cool. I'm not sure if you're just good at researching things or are one of those dudes that know everything about history but it's very unique. It will probably go right over a lot of people's heads because understanding things beyond a yes/no, good/bad level seems to be difficult these days but I appreciate it and I'm sure others do as well.

My thing on the quality v quantity is this. There's a place for both, both have their merits. The argument for quantity in this situation is the sheer number of buildings to make, but there is another argument that is more general. When you see a picture of a build that is a city with low-medium detail, you often will look into the distance and think "oh cool, I wonder how far it goes, how much there is to explore, and I'd like to see all those different buildings up close." On the other hand, when you see one ultra detailed build you often will think it's wonderfully made and really nice, and you'll study the details for a while, but that's all there is. You've seen all it has to offer. Both are good, but in this case lower detail isn't a bad thing, there's plenty to see and a lot of work to do. Not like it stops people from going back at some point and increasing the detail, making things look nicer once a section is done right? Hyper fixating on detail in a build this large can make you lose sight of the bigger picture. edit: a letter

Small caveat: The Battle of Waterloo (and this pains me, since I'm British) was not a must-win battle for the European powers. Had Napoleon completely won Waterloo, killing every single enemy soldier while sustaining no losses, the armies of the remaining powers would still have outnumbered him at least 5 to 1. The fact that disorganisation lost him the battle was largely irrelevant, because he could never have won the war.

Hi, I am going to start building some places, and I have a few questions regarding the mechanics, if you would. I am Sorry if you already answered some of these before, but I really couldn't find information. 1) First, what should I do with natural tiles or tiles with almost nothing to build? Cause I have some small buildings in some wilderness area that I would like to build, especially an archeological ruin near my house that is important to me. I saw that you require us to build at least 2 buildings, so you won't accept it? 2) Is there a time limit on how long can I work on a tile? 3) When getting a tile in a city, do I need to complete each building? If not, when my work is accepted, can other people take the tile or is it locked forever? In your website, when finishing a tile it won't be mine and i could ask for every tile I want to build next in the world, right? 4) I can join only one building team, right? Do they need to accept me? Can I be refused? 5) What happens if a building is in multiple tiles? Can I do only half? I am very keen to join the project, thanks in advance (I might come back with more questions lol) Edit: lol that's the second time I am posting the same post I accidentally posted it on an old video

THe quality vs quantity is a very long time debate for this project. In my opinion, it comes downt to the given builders skill or preference, which to pick. Important landmarks or famous buildings should take quality into account as much as possible. Challenging areas such as intricate terrain are also under this category. On the othe hand there has to be a barrier below which quality should not go, as it would loose the ability oto recognize what the build is meant to be. And most importantly, quality vs quantity builders should not quarrel over each others preference.

My stance is that for the average house I would automate the process and have team puts detail while on more important landmarks is where I would put the true effort and quality

What BTE really needs is programmers to make better AI to automate the building process even further. THAT will be the difference between this project being completed in a matter of months, or this project being completed in centuries.

I feel like you should work on a procedural algorithm teaching it the bills style given inputs from public 3d map data like the google earth has ways to scrape its models, I did this for reference in my build of the One.

I'm with you on the quantity over quality, just in video games in general. Well, when it comes to map design, I like my big cities big. There's only so much detail you can do really. Sure bigger maps have less detail overall, but the size is more believable, smaller maps might be able to look better and have less copy paste, but they still have copy paste and the size isn't so believable. You're passing by the same details over and over again regardless of map size, in one way or another. I like nice looking games, but I also like big maps. I know that's not really the argument you were making though.

Its simple really. Quality is absolutely neccesarry for the larger more impressive buildings, i.e Houses of Parliament or White house etc etc But in order to fill out the world Quanity is vital to finishing neighbourhoods and more repetitive areas of the world

This could go to shit but if they were to add a competitive quantity thing to build the earth, like a minigame or tournament, it could also be a really interesting test of skill, and a community that isn't so hard on casuals

that intro felt like one of those tiktoks that start out with making food, then just suddenly start talking about some sort of massacre of iraqi trops by the US's hand or some other cold war event.
