I remember going down to the terlet and there were all these stickers from this obnoxious Fairfield County CT band that put their stickers everywhere (like you go to get gas on the Hutchinson parkway and there's their sticker on the pump.) Then when we were loading out there were kids on the street throwing nerf footballs to the people in the top of the double decker tourist busses.

So it came down to a payment DISPUTE that never got resolved. I still doubt the club would have lasted much longer, because it is still in a gentrified area with the rent skyrocketing. Over in Philly, we have a venue called Dobbs where a lot of acts played on their way up (Nirvana, Tool, George Thorogood and many more). But it’s in an area where the rent keeps going up. And since 2006, the venue has gone through five different owners and some name variations, and it is once again vacant. I would hate to watch that happen to CBGBs, which at least got to have a proper farewell (spin-offs be damned)

Went there in 92 and was surprised the handstamp they used at the door was a ween “boognish” stamp - they must have made it themselves or got it from the band, as ween was nowhere right about then, before Push th’ Little Daisies even broke, although it had been released recently. Also, I know it’s nitpicky, but every time I hear someone say CBGB’s it drives me up the wall, because the name is just CBGB or CBGB/OMFUG. It was truly disgusting inside, I came out at last call thinking it was 2am and it was really 6am and the sun was coming up.

The Significance and Influence that this Club had in Music History is an Massive Understatement . Very few places (clubs, studios, venues, etc) in the World have the "Resume" of CBGG's in what concerns to gave "birth" to new music genres and Launch dozens and dozens of Bands and Musicians( Artists) to Music Stardom. We need very Urgent clubs like the CBGB's,because this New Millennium in terms of Music is a completely Shitty Vacuum of Ideas Unfortunably seems that Real Music Died.

The club is not named "CBGB's" and never has been. It's "CBGB." Yes, many people call it "CBGB's" but that's wrong. I have never heard the all-ages hardcore show called "Thrash Day." I mean...never. It was called the "Sunday Hardcore Matinee." It should be mentioned that Deborah Harry's comment about the club smelling terrible was really a very brief period in the life of the club. It did not smell any better or worse than any other club, especially after smoking indoors became illegal. There was also a short lived "CBGB theater" at another location,, and the space next door to the club that was actually "CBGB pizza" first, and then it became the Record Canteen, before becoming "CBGB Gallery." There was also a short-lived CBGB Clothing Shop and gift store on St Mark's
