Here’s my personal pitch for why the raptors are so different in JP3: The raptors we usually see in JP content have a very different genetic makeup than actual real life raptors (hence the lack of feathers among other things). And that the raptors in JP3 are one of the experiments conducted in 1999 by Dr. Wu as an attempt to create a more genetically pure variation of velociraptors that are closer to their real life counterparts.

Your theory fails because Raptors weren't anywhere near as big as they are in jurassic park, if Wu had tried to make them more like what the originals were then he would have had to make them a lot smaller.

Ooo. I never thought about that. He does hold sentimentality for his dinos, which is apparent when he stops and looks at the island one last time instead of getting on the damn helicopter. He is a jerk in the book, but I think he is concerned about the kids safety most. Good question
@ericnowak9497
@ericnowak9497 4 жыл бұрын
I had always interpreted his concern as being for the raptors. Not to say he didn’t care about the safety of his grand children or even Grant for that matter. But his shout, to me, was an impulsive response to the gunshots which were obviously targeting the raptors.

Just a thought from the back of my head. What if in dominion, they kill of most of the escaped dinosaurs... (maybe except some fan favorites like rexy and blue) Because they are a danger to society en they have nowhere to put the captured ones. Soo they sadly kill them. That would give viewers the feeling that thrdinos are dead, and this is the end of the series. But then at the end of the movie (similar to jw's ending) the camera fades into a shot zooming over the ocean to isla sorna, and we see that the island is still maintaining a fully healthy ecosystem with living, breeding dinosaurs and even tho the dinosaurs on the mainland are gone, not ALL dinosaurs are dead. (Throw in maybe a sneek peak shot of the spinosaurus, or the jp3 raptor clan) Sounds really dark to kill them all, but also realistic and fitting to the style and title. Dominion. Only one species can survive. Humans or dinosaurs. And the reveal of Isla Sorna would then show that on that small piece of sanctuary, without human interference, the dinosaurs live on in peace. Safe and isolated from the rest of the world. Would be a great call back to hammonds speech from the lost world. These creatures reaquire our abscence to survive, Not our help. And of we could only, step aside. And trust in nature... LIFE... WILL FIND A WAY

Gotta say....I never saw the raptor behind the tank as 'pretending' to be one of the embryos. I always figured, as a predator, observing it's prey before attacking it was standing still and watching. Lions hide quietly in the grass, lizards stand super still as a bug skitters by. I never thought of it being so smart that it was acting like the dead embryo, just observing the newcomers and attacking when one came close enough to grab. I just figured they were another strain, a discarded one. I know the Indo is a hybrid and so not exactly the same but it was a 'prototype'. Since they are messing with dna that they don't know what it is from the start, seems logical that they might try more than one critter to mash them with before they got the one for the park. Like maybe these aren't frog raptors, maybe they are....ostrich raptors...or gator raptors. Still with raptor dna but the binder is different?? Just a throwing out another theory. :D
@LeftHandedRightHanded

But if they were "watching" why weren't they focused on anyone? A lion or any predator wouldn't give away their position like that.

except from a controlled experiment it wouldn’t go too far, especially with raptors or in general with resources. male animals are aggressive when it comes to mates or packs and females are most aggressive when it comes to protecting their young, then you have to have enough room food and space for the different species. if it’s a theme park you want to have exact control over each ride hence the fundamental flaw in the parks design. the logical answer is presented in the movie. they used frog dna to fill in gaps and in the presence of no male, the dinos developed the necessary tools to reproduce. not all but enough. it’s also likely that male and female dinos were definitely made on site b for more accurate testing but site A is likely the R&D and park location, while site B is just the field test location. im probably wrong but they were probably more focused on observation on site b as opposed to theme park regulations and presentations. as for jp 1 either hammond lies or the raptors changed genders, cuz iirc grant finds raptor eggs and they’ve only just recently been free of captivity

I’d figure the dinosaurs left on Sorna from a “sense making” perspective would be dinosaurs that Masrani couldn’t move to isla Nublar due to the fact some are small and numerous enough to remain propagated across the island, some that are smart enough to stay hidden and keep out of sight from Masrani, and some were simply too massive to move. So I’d figure sorna would be full of compys, raptors and mamenchisaurus as well as others that fit the above categories

I think there some wild Tyrannosaurs too. Contiaining and sustaining 1 old veteran and temperamental female T-rex (Rexy/Roberta) in Jurassic World is already challenging. So it's possible that he would've had younger T-rex transported to Isla Nublar if Rexy died of old age. Also I don't see why would Masrani allow the Sorna Tyrannosaurs or other dinosaurs to starve as they could serve as potential future attractions for Jurassic World.

I can’t imagine what Michael Criton would be doing with the franchise now if he was still alive. Like he wrote Sorna in to existence because he destroyed Nublar in the books, and still somewhat wrote Lost World to parallel the film. How would he reconcile Nublar still existing for a Jurassic World?

Maybe Ingen came through and cleaned it all up tore down the buildings, scrapped the remains of the cars, and came across the bodies from both isla sorna incidents. Maybe that’s what Eli mills wanted to do with his money, use it to build a new operation on isla sorna along with Henry Wu. Maybe that is where they were going to bring Blue. Maybe mills wanted to start a small theme park of his own.

In the films I’ve always seen Hammond as more of a misguided oldman caught up in the grandeur of his ideas rather than selfish. Like he just gets distracted by big ideas with intricacies he doesn’t fully understand all the consequences of. Except in the book.....where he’s a stubborn asshole who ignores the consequences of his actions. Film Hammond tries to learn from his mistakes but still makes some of the same ones and new ones not fully understanding all the problems. Book Hammond doesn’t try to learn and attempts to make all the same mistakes. Basically both Hammonds are flawed but the film version comes from a place of ignorance rather than selfishness.

Great interview, guys! Looking forward to more discussion like this! ^^ Regarding the JPIII raptors, I always headcanon'd that, similar to Jack's idea, they were 3rd/4th generation and by that generation, they had some changes and more of the original raptor DNA was becoming more apparent those genes were becoming more dominant, which explained why they started sprouting quills...A little silly, I know XD Now I believe that the post-TLW experiments meant that raptors' new look was a result of those experiments, too :P As for someone showing Alan a satellite image, I can just see a moment where he is hounded by an over-enthusiastic journalist, who shoves that image in front of his face, which he humours by taking one look, scoffing, handing it back and saying something like 'If you want a story, talk to Malcolm.'

When the Raptor clawed Udesky on his back, It just so happened that it severed his spine .. So saying how it could have possibly known human anatomy for it to do that is just silly talk. And yes that embryonic building sequence was great, and had very authentic Jurassic Park music. Unlike the scores of the later installments. Jurassic Park III is the most family friendly of the series !? Are you kidding me? Eric surviving for 8 weeks is just a weak plot, don't mistake that with it being family friendly.. Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom take that title my friend, the cloned girl, and the ending, were the whole scene was basically the point of view of a child and her empathy for dinosaurs, the raptor squad .. BLUE. That is marketing aimed at kids 101 RIGHT THERE .. Jurassic Park III is the most comedic and silliest. Give me a BREAK!! .. Own's lava scene, The Indo's smile, the cartoony FK characters, I could go on and on Since you love continuity so much, Can you explain to me why JW raptors don't look like the raptors from the first two JP films?

I want to also add that the Raptor from the embryo chamber scene simply froze itself so that it wouldn’t have been seen or heard. The fact that it’s head froze in such a way that through the liquid it made it look like it was a head in a jar was just coincidence. I loved that moment.

I have a theory. In the lost world Hammond says that the dinosaurs were bred and raised on isla sorna so would that mean that the Mamenchiasaurus, Compsognathus, Pachycephalosaurus, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, corythosaurus, ankylosaurus, spinosaurus and Ceratosaurus were going to be attractions in jurassic park like adding herbivores to existing enclosures. Also the only reason there would of been 2 adult rexes on sorna was if they were planning on putting more rexes in with rexy and same with the raptors. If you do end up making a video about this would you give me a shout out it would mean a lot.

Great discussion. I think Hammond is a fantastic character especially because he is basically a lovable villain. He has motives that anyone can identify with but he is ruthless. He's a charming old grandpa, a professional show man, a lover of children but he is also greedy, egomaniacal and as soon as things go south he starts assassinating people's characters to suit his own vision. He is a pathological denialist and he always gets away with it because of his financial backing. Honestly, I wish Hammond was praised more as a character because he was excellently written in both the movies and the novels AND Richard Attenborough was PERFECT for his casting.

@@BASSR1DER I re-watched the scene you are talking about. That is a Gallimimus. Gallimimus are normally 18 - 20 feet in length & easily 9 - 10 feet in height if they hold their head upright. But you have to realize that the JP dinos are not natural & several are unnaturally over-sized, examples include the Ankylosaurus & Stegosaurus. With the Stego a normal one would be around 25 - 30 feet in length, but JP Stegos are around 40 feet! They are around the same length & almost the same height as the Rex! And the you have the Anky, which are normally around 25 feet long & around 5 - 6 feet in height, but the JP versions are 30 - 35 feet long & 10 - 12 feet tall! It's all due to the JP dinos being genetically made clones made with mix/matched DNA.

My headcanon about the difference between the JP/TLW and JPIII Raptors is that Wu experimented with the Velociraptors between the events of TLW and JPIII to make them less psychotically aggressive by introducing more avian DNA into the mix, which resulted in somewhat more docile "only attacks when provoked or hunting" Raptors we see in JPIII (because no way in Hell that the JP/TLW Raptors would've let the group live). Not only did these experiments make them more docile, it also made them MUCH more intelligent (maybe the DNA he used was that of corvids!). These discoveries were carried over into Jurassic World when he was breeding the Raptor Squad, which were a mix between the Ver. 1 (JP/TLW) Raptors and the Ver. 2 (JPIII) Raptors, basically making them Ver. 1.5. This explains Charlie's crests, the Raptors being manageable and trainable, being less savage but still active hunters, etc...in Jurassic World and links all 3 versions together in a nice way. EDIT: With "experimented with the Velociraptors", I mean that he cloned new ones with more avian DNA, not that he took the existing TLW Raptors and started experimenting on them.

I'd always assumed that, from what Wu was saying in JP, that the majority of the dinosaurs had the same kind of genetic differentiation as crocodiles, where it's less an actual genetic thing and more of specifics in the nest, just one more sign that they had less idea what they were dealing with than they claimed.

This is dope, I shoulda watched it sooner. In regards to the JP3 raptors, I never saw the design and behavior as a retcon. I assumed they underwent some rapid mutations and adaptations that were better suited to the new modern environment they were in. I always figured the more experimental site B dinos were specifically designed to do this as a way of producing better specimens. Sort of like teaching a program to learn something as opposed to figuring it out yourself and then implementing changes manually. That would also explain why the new raptors in Jurassic World lack these specialized adaptations. I think that will always be how I see it in my own personal head cannon.

Can you do a video sometime about Jurassic World's ACU, and why they thought that the equipment they brought to do the job (a bola net, cattle prods, and other non-lethal equip) would actually WORK against the gigantic Indominus Rex? I know the guy uses a shotgun before he gets gobbled up, but that seemed like a Custer's Last Stand sort of a moment to me. Yeah, I agree about the site b part in the beginning. It makes sense to have another site solely for researching and creating dinosaur. I dont understand why people always bring that "Yeah, right site b. Then why they have a dinosaur lab in the visitor center then?". Oh I dont know, maybe because that one room inside a cramped building that already filled with control room, a theater, and a shop is not enough to cook a dinosaur? Besides, if you look at the way that room designed (with a clear view from the theater) it is most likely that the primary purpose of nublar's lab is to entertain guests.
