He was born Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence on April 16, 1965, in Frankfurt, Germany, to a military family. The ‘Martin’ is in honor of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and the ‘Fitzgerald’ is for John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States. Though he’s been controversial at times, at least he hasn’t ruffled enough feathers to meet the shared fate of his namesakes.
Lawrence began his standup career, first in Washington D.C. and then in New York City, in the early 80s. Like all stand-ups, he bombed his first time up and was discouraged, but luckily for us returned to the stage, where he began to form his signature raw, edgy, and unapologetic style, which often focused on his experiences growing up in the inner city. He embraced the Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy comparisons and considered it an honor to work with the latter, years later.
He got the right eyes on him when he appeared on Star Search in 1987. His performance scored him the part of Maurice Warfield on 22 episodes of What's Happening Now! From 1987 to 1988. He took center stage in the episode "The New Employee", where his character transformed the show's diner into a nighttime teen club to impress a girl. After impressing in his first TV gig, he landed his feature film debut, the 1989 Spike Lee Joint Do the Right Thing. Martin Lawrence's role as Cee is a memorable one. Cee is known for his distinctive lisp and outspoken personality, often providing comic relief with his witty one-liners and humorous interactions with other characters.
In 1990’s House Party, Martin Lawrence’s Bilal is part of the group of friends who throw a wild party while Kid's parents are away, leading to chaos and hilarity. In 1991’s House Party 2, Bilal returns as the crew plans a party in a college dorm, causing more mayhem and laughter. In 1991's Talkin' Dirty After Dark, Martin Lawrence co-starred as Terry, a comedian performing at a nightclub. The film explores the comedy club scene and the lives of the performers, showcasing Lawrence's raw talent and ability to tackle mature themes.

Life is an amazing movie. Very underrated and underappreciated film. Both Martin Lawrence and Eddy Murphy did an amazing job in that movie. It's ashamed this hidden gem of a film went unrecognized. And a pity that these two incredible black performers haven't collaborated since.

the campbell harassment claimed pretty much killed the martin show. martin & gina were like peanut butter and jelly. in the last season, gina was always on business trips. they only interacted on the phone. pam was essentially a stand in for gina for their hijinks. then the last episode, their signature group hug, no gina but cole's girlfriend who was just added to the show.

"Nothing To Loose" with Tim Robbins is probably one of the finest, most hilarious and overall underrated comedy movies of the 90s, a damn fun road trip movie with heart like "Midnight Run" and a favourite of mine of Martin career

I LOVE Nothing To Loose also, yes,it's underrated and under appreciated, such a shame too. But,$ 100,000 a yr for a hit sitcom-MARTIN-is high way robbery,I'm surprised Martin didn't demand a raise. Most of Martin's issues had to do with drugs ( IMHO )

A thin line between love and hate is a classic and will always be a classic, alot of people in our community hate to admit because it's basically a true story about how love and relationships can become detrimental to our health especially with BM. Anyways the mother's home scenes were filmed on my block in South Central Los Angeles and the whole cast was nothing but professional, and friendly . A good movie and a good look at why successful women can have just as many problems if not more when it comes to love and no matter how much you have there's a pookie somewhere waiting for you to let him help you lose it .

12:16 he was trying to lose weight for “Big Momma’s House.” The heat stroke incident happened a month before “Blue Streak” came out, so it couldn’t possibly be for that since it was already filmed. Took me two seconds to google that, but I also remember when that happened and the newscasters stating he was losing weight for “Big Momma’s House.” He probably wanted to lessen how much weight he would have to lug around after putting on the fat suit.

I don’t know why but I wanted national security to be a franchise but I understand why it didn’t bad boys took off, but the chemistry in national security came natural and reminded me of rush hour at first they didn’t like each other but then they became pals and defended each others back no matter what differences they had before, don’t get me wrong I like bad boys and will and Martins chemistry is so good you can see they are friends in real life through the screen, but I like story movies and national security had that dark tone to it like lethal weapon element I mean little bit of it.
