Luxembourger here , in the early 2010s we had some debates in parlement about the “Roude Léiw Fändel” and its potential usage as the new official flag of Luxembourg but ultimately the flag was deemed “too nationalistic” and “a relic of the past” and so died the hope of having an actual awesome and unique national flag :(

Nationalism is just patriotic ideology, it’s just it’s been intertwined with much worse ideologies (National-Socialism), and people who use the guise of patriotism to get what they want. Nationalism is not inherently bad, it’s just gotta a bad rep, plus every modern big democratic state hates the idea of nationalism, because if smaller countries become nationalistic, they strive to gain power for themselves, which means the big democratic states lose some of their influence. And we can’t have that can we?

There have been a few petitions for "Luxembourgish reunification" mainly in the belgian province of Luxembourg, but they barely even reach 1000 supporters and there aren't any politicians supporting it. However there heave been a few that have stated that in the case Belgium was to split up into Flanders and Wallonia, the province of Luxembourg should go back to Luxembourg. This is however voiced mostly by the flamish out of spite for Wallonia and not by any wallonians as they obviously want to keep it. TLDR: No, there is no movement for reunification.

The family of Orange and Nassau were Counts of Vianden historically. As compensation for their family possessions in Fulda, they were granted the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg after the Congress of Vienna. The border of the country was adjusted to include the Castle of Vianden. This personal union continued until 1890, when Willem III of the Netherlands died without male heir. To make a flag out of the colours of the main Coat of Arms is quite usual. Do not forget the Coat of Arms of Belgium is that of the Duchy of Brabant. Heir apparent of Belgium is called the Duke of Brabant. Yellow isn't a heraldic colour, it is called gold and two colours shouldn't border each other, so the red and black are separated by the metal gold. Luxembourg did the same with their Coat of Arms. Red and blue, separated by the metal silver. Even the Netherlands did the same with the Coat of Arms of Chalon, red and blue separated by silver. The Princedom of Orange, ruled by the family of Chalon, has nothing to do with the colour. This association was abused by dubious groups within the Netherlands and needs not be repeated. Prince Willem I inherited the Princedom from his cousin René de Chalon de Nassau Breda.

Brabant is how we spell and say it in English today. The Dutch (no idea about belgians) that second a sounds more like a u and it’s got much less space between the first and second sylabal between a-b. Obviously over time as result of both linguistic evolution and translation between at least 6 relevant languages in the area, you’ll see spelling variations all the time. Well into the late 1800s with widespread literacy, state standardisation, and the printing press, variations were the norm, standard spellings were rare.
