comedyhype.com/ - In Living Color in it's prime would be known for taking comedy to the edge with it's unapologetic style. What some may not have known is one of their skits crossed the line so bad that it ended up being banned. Here's what took place with their Bolt 45 skit which featured Keenan Ivory Wayans, Kim Coles, and David Alan Grier. Written by @Mr.DomicSmith Instagram: @ComedyHype & Twitter: @ComedyHype_

@@BlondieSL I have a D-VHS VCR, but it is the first model without the digital tuner. The kind with the digital tuners goe for a great amount on Ebay! Mine alone is worth $1K+! Any S-VHS VCR with a TBC is worth at least $500 on the market (especially JVC or Mitsubishi) and if you wanted to sell, I would at least keep one since no one more VCRs are being made and what is out there is all that there is! I still have my tape collection and I am putting them back on disk - but this time uncompressed (no MPEG), and the quality does indeed hold more info.

I think Keenan was trying to make a point. Some sketches are used to illustrate horrible reality within an humorous setting to bring light to things that are ignored. No one was speaking to how Colt 45 was influencing a generation of people to think that drinking malt liquor meant a classy life when in reality they're getting the woman drunk and doing exactly what Keenan exposed. Seems to me the uproar should have been what he exposed which is the exploitation of drunk women by smooth talking men.

I remember watching the "Bolt 45" sketch when it was originally aired. It was funny AF then, and it's still funny AF. The only real creepy moment in the whole sketch was the moment he threw her leg over. If they had left that one move out, the censors may have thought about it, but there were so many other pressing-up-to-the-line-but-not-quite-crossing-it moments on that show, it would have just rolled through with the rest.

I'd say the concern at the time was more that the network didn't want Colt 45 and/or Billy Dee Williams coming after them with lawyers. Key & Peele did their Baby It's Cold Outside sketch just a few years ago.

I gotta agree. I luv “in living color” but that sketch is rough at the end. Not a good sketch for network tv. Cable, like hbo would be fine. More adult eyes.

What about all of the things Married With Children showed? MWC got a little more raw with it than ILC. We both know why MWC was able to but that sketch was hardly rough compared to what was already on TV at the time.
