Hey Shaelin, thank you so much. Super duper helpful. Yes, I think demystifying the publishing process is important, and that the mini depression is real after completing a draft. It’s so important to take on time breaks too, clearly and succinctly. I wanted to ask, grammar! Could anyone at Reedsy help with a crash course or masterclass on conjunctions and grammar? When to use ‘too’ in between commas, the famous Oxford comma - ands, buts, and the very much variable use of dashes. I know it seems a little OTT, but I find Reedsy is a very reassuring place to go to on the internet, as writing can be very solitary - and I think the basics like essential grammar can get seriously overlooked. I know different cultures use English grammar differently (American or British English, for example) but just knowledge on a general ethos on what those little markings in our prose can actually translate on the page, solidifying meaning, can only be a good thing. What is the difference between a submission and a query? Do we query the literary agent and submit to publishers? Or do we submit and query literary agents? If so, which when? and what's the difference?

A query is when you send out samples of your manuscript to gage agents’ interest. It’s almost like a promotion, saying, Hey - take on my book! Submission, however, comes way after the agent has shown their interest in the manuscript sample, read the whole book, perhaps signed documents with you which may resemble a contract (each agent can conduct themselves slightly differently) and helped with edits to your draft. Submission is when the agent says to publishers, Hey, I’ve seen this book, and I want to represent it - please buy this story. Does this help?
