why do felons lose the right to vote but a candidate can become president with a felony -- what gives?

For reasons such as lawfare. Hard to believe this is evening happening in a free society, but just wait until republicans use it on their opponents. Once you open Pandora’s box, it’s free game for everyone to use. Let’s see who uses lawfare better.

@@SnoopyMiami15 Are you listening to what you are saying? The jury isn't the swamp, to answer your rhetorical question..... the swamp is a government that has brought an alleged 'case' when no crime has been committed. NDA's are not illegal, and the jurisdictional flaws are obvious. You may think it's "ok" to allow this to happen because you may dislike Mr. Trump, but the big picture here is not about Mr. Trump, it's about the corruption currently in Government to facilitate such a miscarriage of the laws of this country. Bragg and that other prosecutor invented a 'crime' ..... they even campaigned on going after a person rather than a crime. I guess when it happens to you, you'll finally understand.

His age should be taken into consideration. In the state of New York a class E felony carries a 1yr to 4yr sentence. Trump has 31 charges against him. If he got the minimum sentence he'd be serving 31 years in prison. Cut that time in half based on his age. He'd be serving 15 or 16 years in prison. Then give him an option for parole after serving half the sentence like most other criminals get. So trump would be in jail for 5 to 7 years and probation for any time he'd have left after that. Seems about right to me.

@@forreststump11 , Trial courts in Illinois, Maine & Colorado ruled that Trump engaged in insurrection. The congressional Jan. 6 Select Committee concluded he incited the insurrection, all in addition to what he's said & done publicly. The SCOTUS only ruled that states don't have authority to remove a candidate for president from the state ballot, it didn't rule that he's not an insurrectionist. Also, the crime of insurrection includes some of the crimes he is charged with in Special Counsel Jack Smith's case against him in D.C. Those convicted of engaging in the Jan. 6 rebellion weren't charged with insurrection, they were charged individually with the specific element of insurrection that they engaged in, i.e. trespassing, assault, obstruction, property damage, aiding and/or abetting the insurrection or insurrectionists. Trump doesn't deny he supports the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, calls them "hostages," would pardon them if president, as he did others who conspired with him, like Bannon & others. He doesn't have to be convicted of insurrection in a court of law to be an insurrectionist. His conduct before, during & after Jan. 6 has established that he's an insurrectionist.

It will mean that he never spent one single legitimate day in the Oval Office. Therefore... 3 Scotus judges will need to resign, because they are likewise illegitimate. And should they refuse to step down, then they need to be removed by the Impeachment process, because they will then have consented to Trump's High Crimes.

What a lot of people want to know is if equal treatment under the law means a conviction with a prison sentence will mean (apart from special security measures). Ordinarily serving time on a felony conviction demands extreme limitations on rights and privileges. Normally, a felon does not have unlimited visits, calls, or electronic media use. Also, very rarely permission will begranted for any travel apart from hospitals and courts. Basically, catastrophic consequences for one’s job-not even the ability to run your own business or practice much less getting to go on any kind of promotional tour or hosting events. Right?
