What happens to Maple logs when they are aged?

Welcome back to the mill!
In today's video we are sawing some Maple logs! We will be seeing how these logs did while being aged on the ground.
Guess what a little beetle does to these logs!!

I find the fact that the bugs got into your poplar logs really cool . I have piles of smaller, a bit curvy logs, from poplar to red gum mixed with many maple logs.. I've slowly have been cutting them up for small projects. I'll have to look at some of the poplar logs.. yes I agree if your not learning some thing new you should pack it up... Love me some maple for sure.

Sometime we will saw wormy poplar at our sawmill. But not often

Ambrosia happens when the tree is alive....spalting is what occurs when you let it age outside.😊 I've got a 3 foot thick red maple laying in my front yard and when I cut it it was ambrosia , I also have a 5 ft thick red maple still standing , limbs that I cut off the big tree were ambrosia.

I’ve worked in the bush for years and now run a head saw at a sawmill and we cut trees all the time 10 ft apart in the bush one maple tree can be wormy and right next too it totally white

I saw at pallet mill and at one time we had so much maple and were sawing the million feet of ash we ash. When we finally sawed the maple it some was Spalted some was stained and some was just rotten I think it depends where in the pile it is

Yes you're correct it will rot if left to long thx for watching
