The human body isn't designed to sit on the couch all day eating fast food and watching Netflix. We need exercise, time outside, and a healthy diet to survive. But what if you decided to retire to your bed for the rest of your life? It's not a good idea, trust us. Find out why in today's new video.

I've been bed bound for 594 days so far, recovering from a horrendous motorcycle accident. It's crazy what a sedentary lifestyle does to negatively impact so many things in your body. Edit: day 782 now, nearing the finish line though! Pending amputation is my last surgery and I should finally be past this malarkey. Thanks for the well wishes🤘🤘

This kinda happens to me when I was 12. I had a total knee reconstruction surgery and two feet surgery at the same time, which I wouldn’t move much for a couple of months. Granted, not to this extent in this video, but I’m still trying to lose the weight from that period 10 years ago; and my body makes it even harder for me because I have hypothyroidism, which slows the way your body produces and regulates hormones, which therefore, makes it harder to lose weight. This video definitely helped me out and motivated me to be more active! ☺️💪🏻

I worked ambulance, we had to take a person to the hospital that was immense. We had to call fire backup because we physically couldn't pick him up, nor would he fit through the doors. They had to cut through his bedroom wall, we had to rent a haul to transport him since he wouldn't fit either the gurney or ambulance. He was transferred on a large sheet requiring 10 fire fighters to move him. Once at the hospital, there was no bed in the hospital large enough to hold him and he had to be place on the floor in the ER until they could order a special "big boy bed" from bed supplier. We left him there on the floor....

I had a situation like this after getting covid. After working full time for the last 18 years, I was in bed almost entirely for two weeks; vertigo and weakness caused by covid kept me there. After recovering and returning to work, just getting out of bed was close to impossible for the first 4 or 5 days. I couldn't imagine what being inactive for a month would do, let alone a year.

But after that I sprained my leg, broke two toes and sprained my rib when I started moving A LOT in the following six months, so it can happen quite fast... I was just 26. I've been bedbound going on a decade I have a tumour in my spine, but I'm proof you don't instantly balloon if you eat a pretty standard diet but if you do it is very difficult to lose weight. I'm able to go for a short walk about once a month, am able to infrequently swim and do hydrotherapy, though I want to do more of it, I'm left in a lot of pain afterwards. I read books though mostly I use audiobooks, listen to music and play games. By far the hardest thing is socializing, making plans pretty much disappears when your bodies condition varies so much that I never know how I'll be on a given day. And being truthful to others about my condition is hard, if they ask me how I am I either have to lie and say I'm struggling but alright, because every time I've ever been honest about how bad I'm doing it freaks the other party out and they just don't respond at all.

@walterroux291
@walterroux291 2 жыл бұрын
@@rickysmyth sadly my pain wouldn't allow it. I have a constant headache and pain even on my best days, but sitting or standing for any more than 30 minutes turns it into a migraine. So not even a wheelchair is suitable for me. What's odd about my disability is I can still walk on a good day, it's standing and sitting that are my issues. Thus leaving me bedbound most days.

@@walterroux291 sending love ❤️ I've been bedridden for about 10 years now aswell since I was 14. My muscles atrophied a lot at in the beginning and eventually I was able to walk again but it causes a lot of pain and because of my heart I can't sit up for more than 30 minutes at a time without passing out. Luckily it's improving by doing physical therapy laying down but it's so physically and mentally draining. This is a wake-up call for me. I'm 29 and have zero core strength due to literally never having exercised and living a completely sedentary lifestyle. Thankfully I'm somehow not overweight, but I'm sure I have internal issues. I can't wait to eat healthy foods and exercise. 5:40. Let me just confirm from someone here who has lost 167 pounds to date. Yes, when you are sedentary, do not excercise, and let yourself go? You become stupider, or at least your brain has a " fog" as I like to put it. That is hard to overcome and makes it difficult to really expand as a human being. Ever since my peak weight of 420 pounds, now all the way down to 253? I have experienced, in fact well before this? A clearer mind, my thoughts come faster and are clearer than before. I couldn't explain why, I thought it was the strain I was putting on my circulatory system pumping blood to the brain. As it turns out, it was this all along. Thanks infographics!

Being active, even if it is just walking everyday is very important to your health. From your cardiovascular, muscular-skeletal, digestive, even neurological health. Our bodies are designed to move. I work with a 14 year old girl who was rett syndrome, which basically means it is VERY difficult for her to control her body. With puberty in the last 2 years she put on a bit of weight and it definitely makes everything more difficult for her. But the whole reason she gained so much weight is the fact she has so much difficulty moving, walking or doing anything combined with her "teenage" hunger (maybe because she grew up, her body thought it needed more calories?) Anyway it really motivates me to continue to push her and make her move and stay as active as she can. Even if she cannot run, jump or swim, and has limited mobility

I'm no doctor, but as far as I know, without drugs you can't grow too much muscle. You can only lift so much so many times. You can try to lift too much and end up hurting yourself.

There is a hormone called myostatin which limits muscle growth and overall muscle mass, so our muscles can't grow without a limit like fat; if your muscles were to grow indefinitely tho you would probably break your bones by just moving and your body would require a enormous ammount of nutrition

As a kid I got surgery on my back and was bed bound for the better part of a semester, as to not rip the stitches (they didn’t trust me to be careful if I did move cause, well, young hyperactive kid). I gained so much weight and lost so much muscle mass it took me the rest of a year to get back to my old self, and even then I had to be watched by doctors for a while because of the change and I could get injured from taking on too much too soon. Sometimes when I’m not doing too well and can’t get out of bed I remember that time and it usually motivates me to get up, because now I, at least physically, can. I’ll couple it with this video tho, really worked today

I had surgery 8 years ago which caused me to stay on my couch for a month. Luckily I have a job that forces me to be pretty active. I’ve learned sometimes you just need to squeeze in exercise. When the alarm clock rings turn on some dance music and dance for 10 minutes. Park on the farthest end of the parking lot. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

If I sit 6-8 hours a day but I get at least 1 hour of exercise daily ( strength training 3-4 times a week, cardio (I walk a lot) and gentle mobility/flexibility exercises almost daily) is it still unhealthy and dangerous?
