Honestly, very happy to see the direction Aperture is going with their lighting. There is only so much development and innovation that can be made in the $700 market segment due to price constraints. It's just not possible to build something like a P300c for that cost, but to make a light as capable as a Skypanel for 1/3 of the price, that is a huge accomplishment and should be looked at in that way.

Love the product development at Aputure. The Nova is the light I've been looking forward to the most. It's the light I'll likely invest in next. Glad to see them bringing value to these expanded light categories. Software updates are also only going to make it more versatile down the line. Now to find $1800 😂

So I use the arri sky panel on lots of my products there are so many times where I want to get creative and strap the light to a tree but I can't because if I drop a 10k light I'll die. I think the price is great and its another tool that gives me freedom and convenience to create at a very low cost.

I suspect that Aputure went "higher end" on this to make it solid enough for rental houses to stock it. While I'm more careful with rental equipment than I am with my own stuff, I too would be less "precious" about the risk of covering a unit that's 1/4 the price of a S60. (Not just damage, but getting it stolen, etc.) And in my market I see that a S60 rents for about $130/day, so a P300c would be something like $40/day ($120/wk?), which would also make me much more likely to rent one for a shoot.

I appreciate Aputure offering a wide range of products for all budgets and shooting styles. The Arri Skypanels are very popular for good reason but very expensive and out of reach for a lot of creators. This Nova P300C looks like a solid choice.

I remember when Aputure has a small booth at the back of the South Hall at NAB and I loved their lights then. I bought an H528C and am still using it (in fact just yesterday). While they have slowly been building outside of *my* budget they have almost become the defacto light at a good price. I will be looking into Godox lights just for the price but my business doesn't require the most accurate lights so I don't have to ensure I have the best CRI available. *IF* I even moved into the indie cinematography arena and needed a more dependable light I would go with Aputure hands down. The people were great back in their small booth days have only gotten better while making better products. A great company to support.

I know this is not the point... you're talking about an exceptional lighting instrument and I'm watching the production value. Just want to say many thanks from a 30+ year video veteran for not peppering your video with jump cuts. It was a pleasure to watch cutaway shots. Cutaway shots!! Well produced, well demonstrated, nice tight voice recording... overall an exceptional example of what a demo video can be with not a ton of effort. Well done. And the light looks amazing. I am in the market for a smaller and more portable solution right now but the this light would serve my studio type setup nicely.

Now, on to a real comment. I am in the middle of buying a new set-up, and new to the film side as well. I initially selected 3 Aputure LS300X lights because they seems the best value for what you spent. I am now stopping one of those lights and adding the Nova P300c because as an add-on to the other lights, I feel that this can cover almost every shoot I plan on usually doing. The mark of a good company is not only providing quality and value...but in making products that you need. Aputure has done that.

I like the Aputure products, their company, and their mindset overall. I had a 300D, upgraded to the MkII and am looking forward to purchasing a 3 light kit of the 60Ds (are you listening Aputure?) and a 600D. I am a photojournalist who also makes one-man-band run-n-gun documentaries. The portable, bright battery-powered D series lights work extremely well for me. The Bowens mount is a plus for me as I already had domes and softboxes made by Phottix, which work great with the Aputure lighting system. Lately I have been bouncing my 300DII off a Westcott 7’ umbrella draped with an 8x8 scrimjim diffuser. Makes for something akin to an extremely portable 7’ octagon softbox. Produces a wonderful soft light that embraces almost everything it touches. Enjoy your reviews - keep up the good work! Thanks...

Very similar to what happened with OnePlus phones. From flagship killers to flagship makers themselves, being forced to launch a medium range alternative with the Nord. But l don't see Aputure release a value line of products as it wouldn't be worth the extra R&D and saturation of the market

These lights are perfect for the company I used to work for in Florida. We did mainly mid-budget commercials. Sure, there were a couple that we rented some big guns, but for the most part, we used Apeture and Godox lights. $1700 seems like a lot for a vlogger, but a working professional can pay it off in one gig.

Aputure are amazing and what they are producing is stellar. The big thing about them is even the higher price fixtures help the smaller budget fixtures in the end as they revise and bring the knowledge into the updates either software, utility add-on (Sidus link) or hardware revisions. There staff actually care about the user and super helpful.

Any company has to have growth if they want to survive. Aputure is a prime example of this. Aputure is a company that is ever growing. And as a company grows, it has to move in to several different markets from budget to high end. So I'm okay with the more expensive lights. I just know that it will be cheaper for me to rent these lights for my bigger jobs rather then to buy them. I think smaller indie filmmakers forget the rental option sometimes.

I think perspective is super necessary when talking about Aputure as a brand. Yes, they have been the budget option for a while, but I don’t think this light goes against that. I’ll be honest, when I first saw them announce this light I was one of those who scoffed at the price tag. But after seeing this “not a review” and what the actual competition is- the arri skypanel- it makes a lot more sense. I might have to consider one down the road

I considered this light and had the budget for it but decided to try the nanlite mixpanel 60 because it was pretty powerful, had a lot of the same features of P300c, and very important for run and gun it runs off one 14.8 Vmount. So far the nanlite is pretty awesome. Like Gerald I wanted one controller to rule them all - I actually emailed nanlite about it and they replied saying "Yes, one is in the very early stages of development. Too soon for an expected release date." so at least they're on it. Good stuff G

Some people saying that Aputure was somewhat a budget brand but now they aren't anymore? Compare this light to the Arri Skypanel and see that Aputure is still extremely well priced for what we are getting. Legit they should be charging over $2k for this light but I'm so glad they aren't.
@Bad-Nick4 жыл бұрын
I think Aputure does their best to offer (more) budget friendly options for what's common on set. Their COB lights are powerful alternatives to fixtures that burn your fingerprints off and pop breakers, and they won't break the back of a small crew setting up in whatever location they can get, plus they have attachments to replicate common modifiers. Now that Sky Panels are common even on student films, this is a way to get some of the same look and features on a lighter budget. It helps to remember that selling one kidney is a steal when the alternative costs both, and you can still get by on options that don't cost either.

i'm a relatively new user of aputure and am enjoying its quality and ease of use. One thing aputure is leaving on the table now that they're making color correctable lights is a product similar in quality to Sekonic C-800 or the 854. I think that would complete the took kit.
