What has happened to the limpets 👀🤔 20240703. I have no idea why these limpets appear to have been damaged or suffered from some sort of predation or disease. I have brought this to the attention of the Harbour Master.

Thank you for your email regarding Hope Cove. The information you provided has been logged onto our system. We combine this incident information with other data. This helps us to assess how serious the incident could be. Some of the factors that determine how we manage the incident are: • scale of the harm to the environment or people • duration • number of times it has occurred If you know the source of the pollution then you may want to inform those responsible. They can then take action to stop it. Regulated sites should have procedures for dealing with these reports, for example a water company. Responding to environmental incidents For environmental incidents the Environment Agency: • need to prioritise their activities on incidents that cause serious and significant risk • are unable to respond to every environmental incident reported to them • may in some cases, after assessing the risk, decide that no further action will be taken • will use the information provided to build a picture of environmental threats - to enable targeted compliance, regulation, and enforcement • will continue to regulate activities with an environmental permit so they can prevent damage to the environment • will not provide feedback to individual reports of environmental incidents If the incident you have reported to us worsens or continues for several days, call the Environment Agency again on 0800 80 70 60.

Odd situation. At first, I thought it might be fishermen looking for bait but I think there were too many for that. 👍👍👍

@mikeflight9 if you take them for bait, it doesn't leave a white patch behind. I really can not understand what has happened 🤔

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan Looked at this again and you're right. The white spots I remember were "NOT" like this. Maybe a close-up with the camera and then emailing the pictures to someone who would know. I remember seeing barnacles but not as many or as vivid as the ones here in your video. I did more searching and still can't find anything that looks like the white spots on those rocks. The only thing that I saw was something about limpets dying and the residue of the shell had something to do with it. But that takes time, a long time. Plus why would there be so many dead limpets? If I were you I wouldn't touch that stuff with bare hands, and I would go further along that part of the coast to see if there were more like that. Weird indeed. 🤔

Could be climate change, could be just the time of year. What's affecting the limpets? I have no idea!

@@benwinkel We come here every year at this time. I don't remember seeing them like this before. I can't even imagine what has happened. If you check the video description you will find my playlist for limpets going back several years and I don't think any of those videos show this situation 🤔

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan Fact is that sea water temperatures are higher than normal. Species that are used to colder temperatures and cant adapt will move away and species that can handle warmer situations will move in. Maybe this could explain the situation with the limpets.

WHAT IS THAT
@GrandadIsAnOldMan
@GrandadIsAnOldMan 23 күн бұрын
It is a rock covered with limpets, but most of them seem to have been smashed or destroyed somehow. Normally they would be a dull green brown colour, you shouldn't see all those white patches on the rock. Details in the video description.

@@Legoboytaha no, they are extremely common. Seeing so many apparently destroyed or dead makes me think there could be something wrong.
