The amount of rubbish thrown or poured into the sea is absolutely mad. These limpets dying because of a possible chemical is pretty concerning if that is found to be the case. You did mention that you reported it which is good. I mean those limpets look as if they are melting. Definitely something not right there. I mean, people are going in there swimming. Some of that seawater will get into the mouth and on the skin which could cause problems. Hope they find out soon and well spotted Graham. 😳👍 I watched the news earlier and thousands of salmon swimming up a river in Canada are all dead, and they are blaming it on very low water levels in the river. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it. Probably tens of thousands. Seemingly they are blaming drought as the cause and the river did look very dry in parts. Very sad situation. The strange thing was that the salmon we not touched by any other animals. Must have been the fact they were rotting. Looking at it, some of them didn't look as if a seagull or other birds like crows wouldn't eat them. Those sorts of birds will eat anything dead. I found it strange that nothing was trying to eat any of the dead fish. Roadkill vanishes fast, so where are the foxes and other creatures who would find all those fish like a feast. I looked it up regarding bears as this is in Canada and this came up: "The grizzly feeds on all kinds of fruit, nuts, seaweed, roots, and animal protein including insects, rodents, fish, and carrion. It also has a very keen sense of smell and can detect carrion (dead animals) up to 28km away". Just seems odd.

Yes, that did cross my mind, but it would have to be designed from the ground up. No simple scanning the parts in. So it would be a long job. Making it from bits of wood is probably much quicker 🤔🤔

When you report it, it only disappears from your view until they have decided whether or not to take any action. I have blocked it from my channel. It is now happening on every one of my evening posts. I also block it from my other channels. Of course I am paranoid enough to think it is a personal attack on my channel. I noticed that one was only created today, so they are being generated and used immediately, then probably blocked by KZfaq and they run the bot again to create more. Two nights ago I had a comment from a bot account that I am sure is from the same "stable" but it does not point to a porn site and does not have an offensive thumbnail, so I haven't blocked it yet. I am watching it to see if it is some sort of trojan.

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan I suspect you're right. I remember when I was in grade school back in the '60s I'd make electromagnets out of nails and bell wire. The old carbon-zinc cells ran down really fast on those. My parents got tired of buying batteries! The wire would get hot enough that the plastic insulation would get soft. I imagine an alkaline cell would last a lot longer, but still not really long.

That definitely does not look right. I mentioned seeing white spots on rocks but the close-up you did here does not look like anything I have seen before. There is something wrong here and it might be a good idea to report it to whatever authority deals with conservation etc. Several things you mentioned about the stream flowing into the sea at the other side of the beach, which has many more dead limpets, make me wonder if it is a chemical spill. I don't think that is caused by a fungus or other biological problem. Whatever is causing it is definitely not normal. I imagine radiation could do this but that is doubtful unless Fukushima water has managed to reach our shores. Take one of those little cameras and chuck it out. Better still, get out there with the swim gear. 🤣😂 Joking aside, it is really odd for the shell to rot away like that. Plus the limpet may still have been alive after shell collapse because they never fell off the rocks. In other words, "I don't have a clue". Very glad you showed this with close-ups. 🤔👌👍👍

It's difficult to tell without being there in person. but harking back to my seaside days in senior biology expeditions, could they be the lower part of a twin shell creature similar to a clam? So either seabirds or pollution causing the top part to be removed.? In other words, are they another shellfish that lives amongst the limpets...? Because the limpets I've seen have no lower shell.
@GrandadIsAnOldMan
@GrandadIsAnOldMan 2 күн бұрын
From about 09:30 I show you some limpets where the top of the shell seems to be eaten away and you can see the translucent underside of the shell is exposed. It is almost like something, maybe a chemical, is eating away at the shell. It then seems that the shell softens and implodes leaving just the outer ring of the shell. There is a stream running into the sea on that side of the bay, so it could be a chemical runoff from the farms. There is also more green weed in the bay than normal.
@mrwoodandmrtin
@mrwoodandmrtin Күн бұрын
How can there be shell deposits on the rock if the limpet only has a top shell? It all looks very similar to the rocks we have here, where the clams have died and just left the lower part of their shells still embedded into the rocks. Limpets would leave a hole or a ring, but not a shell basin. Unless the limpets have two shells there. My suspicion is that they are oysters. Or antigravity victims... one of those two.
@GrandadIsAnOldMan
@GrandadIsAnOldMan Күн бұрын
@mrwoodandmrtin My current theory is that if the shell has been softened, the limpet actually causes the shell to collapse inwards as it tries to clamp itself to the rocks. That is what I deduce by observing the limpets that have the outer layer of the top of their shell missing and the white inner layer exposed. As I have mentioned in the videos, on close inspection, they look as if they have been turned inside out. Feel free to invent a new species of mollusc that has magically appeared on these rocks and exclusively died whilst the existing limpet population has conveniently moved to one side. I am sad enough to have studied these limpets for many years and have not observed this happening before. If you check the video description, you will find my playlist for limpets. I also mentioned in the video that some of the whelks appear to be affected with white patches, too.
