Another theory on the bent line is a train derailment accident back when the railroad was active and CSX never fixed, therefore abandoning the railroad.

I have seen a former Virginian RR line that the rails had become sun-kinked in several places to where the gauge was about 3 inches because the rails were only spiked to every 5th or 6th tie and no anchors. Because of the sharpness of the bend in the rail on top, this was done by a large piece of machinery that caught the rail and shoved it over and also caught the 2nd rail. The bottom rail is over about 6 to 8 inches and the top rail is over about 6 feet from where each should be. Because of the tie condition, the spikes will not hold very well as you can see. The top rail has a kink or permanent bend in the rail and will need to be replaced. The other rails can be relined and spiked onto new ties inserted into the track to replace the rotten ones to fix this mess. Before any train or engine is sent down this track, an inspector will look at the track to see what repairs are needed. Believe it or not, replacing every 3rd tie and straightening the rails would allow trains back on this track.

Maybe if you listen carefully enough in the calm of the night, you can hear that ghostly echo of the last train that used those rails...

Considering it's been 5+ years since a train ran here who knows? Jokingly its the smallest flyover or perhaps the only sugar plantation railroad left in Miami (There was even room.to double track) but Spider-man was showing off his strength by twisting rail like pretzels. Apparently much earlier CSX got permission to close some grade Xings and used the upright rails to indicate the road no longer went thru. Alas that didn't work completely so concrete barriers went up at the end of pavement and also to hold down dumping on the ROW. One thing is weird. Note that besides the grade Xing being removed the sidewalk over the tracks and ballast is also gone and ends at the fenceline. Hard to walk in stilettos. Another good find by Roli !

I've seen this type of incident before.... It's a case where the ties are way past gone and really nothing is holding the rail down. With that being said, in the case that I saw, I drunk driver in a car "thought it was a crossing" and instead pulled the rail just like that.

That is most odd. At 4:50 there is a crash barrier that is also damaged but impact to that is wrong direction so doubtful connected. The three upright rails, guessing they may have been to block that road behind where the crash barrier is now. The impact to track, even a powerful truck manoeuvring would surely notice some resistance but a hard impact should show some other evidence. Be interesting to know.

That's sad to see railroads abandoned. Some of them get put back into service and others seem to not return to service.

That's a good question on what caused that, I have no idea.

That line will obviously never be used again. I'm surprised the scrappers haven"t come along and taken that stuff. If CSX were to rebuild that, I imagine they 'd rip it all out and put in new stuff maybe use the rails that in good condition still.

That bent rail has Peyronie's disease! I think there's some medicine for that now. At least, the TV sure loves to show me ads for it!

With such poor tie condition it does not take much to move rail over. Could have been cleanup if those trees had ever lost big branches. The reason for those rail sticking up out of the ground is there had been a crossing there that was torn out. So people might have still been driving over the tracks and snagged a rail.

More and more, it looks like this line will never be restored. I hate it!

Since the damage area is next to a T intersection, I bet that a vehicle zoomed from the street going into the T, crossed over the street parallel to the track, and then hit with enough force to dislodge the track from the ties. Perhaps it was that proverbial "Florida Man" in a heavy pickup truck. ;->

5:09 Why are those rails in the ground. You should take them home. Bring a trailer and a few of your friends to load em up any drop em off at your place. That is the most historical thing I've ever seen so far.

I've seen this done to abandoned train tracks before. Definitely looks like a dozer hit it. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a group of "NIMBY"s (not in my back yard) hadn't hired a demolition contractor to destroy a portion of the out of service / abandoned tracks. I've heard of things like this being done to such lines in an attempt to stop an abandoned / dormant rail line from being reopened. Maybe a short line operator might be interested in providing rail service in the not too distant future, who knows.

From the way the rail is bent at one place, it looks like someone may have tried to use that rail as an anchor to pull against. You can see where the rail is bent like a chain was wrapped around the rail to pull against it and it was pulled away from its spikes and tie plates. Do you see any scrap marks on the rail where some one may have hit it with something? I did not see any when you panned across the bent section.

Since you said this is in Homestead-south of Miami-was this part of the line that went all the way to Key West way back when (going south), and where does this line go going north?

Damn, something sure ripped the holy snot outta that rail! I’d hate to see what the offending vehicle looks like after that one! But with those rotted rail ties, I’d bet odds it was some idiot speeding down that road after a long Saturday night who lost control and wiped out after too much beer and too little sleep or something equally dumbass like that. That section is one that received the damage later. If you had filmed just a little ways further South, you would have seen the first section that was damaged like that. And yes, it was caused by vehicles and not derailments. People forget or don't know the tracks are there at night and go flying into it as side streets run at right angles to the track. The other was from the East at NW 10th St. Back when I lived on NW 9th Ave we had a vehicle hit the tracks at NW 19th St also. In fact, at the time we were the NW corner of Homestead. If you go up to 19th and 9th, you find that the street there is only a half width on 19th Street.

Man! That's one strong place of rail as it didn't snap.it stopped whatever hit it as it didn6plow on through the pile driven vertical rails. Don't know what hit it I bet they sure as hell felt it. The rail didn't snap so what ever hit had to absorb that energy of force when the object stopped suddenly. I'm with you, there's no way CSX doesn't want to keep it up or abandoned it. That would cost some serious money to open this up and for what? Until Homstead develops a base that invites rail service back it just isn't going to happen. Bus lanes are just look goofy and waste of space. The material your state could repair existing roads.

What took you so long for the upload? I was getting worried. I didn't know if you got kidnapped or not. I knew that something was wrong since you always upload on time. What happened. Are you ok. I am just wondering because you never miss the time to upload. Friends look out for each other, am I Right. You are practically my best friend. There is very few people like you out there. You are quite the legend. Have you filmed any derailments? If not, this is a suggestion for you. You might think I'm nuts but I love to watch derailment and train vs vehicle videos just to see how the world can be a douche.

I doubt that a car accident had anything to do with the bending of the rail in the current shape that it is in. A car's front end should clear the rail heights. My first thought is a flatbed truck carrying steel beams tipped over and sent the steel beams rolling toward the rail. The steel beams hit this rail and forced the rail to be ripped off the tie plates and bent this rail over the top of the other rail. Whatever carused the rail to dislodge and bend like that had to be a terrific force! Try checking with a local library or historical society to see if they have any information on why the track is in that shape in that location. It would be interesting to find out if therer is any information out there that would tell us what happened to cause this rail to be so out of place.

My man, the only way to describe what I see I junk. The whole setup, track, ties, gravel etc, needs replacement. As for your theory of a car hitting it, not possible, no car can do that much damage to track that long, no matter how big it was or how fast it was going. A more plausible theory is the ties are so rotted and dried out that the spikes could no longer hold the plates and rails in place. I also noticed at 3:58, in the video, there is a track joint still bolted together, I find your idea of a bulldozer somewhat humorous as , if you stop and think, a Bulldozer has several notable characteristics. It is a large , noisy piece of equipment , they are not easy to operate and they leave tread marks that do considerable damage to the ground. That being said, a length of track like that, being lifted and pushed 5 feet and dropped on top of the other rail can easily be accomplished by using a medium duty tractor/ backhoe and medium duty chains, the tractor's made by Ford or John Deere, they are more common than Bulldozers. I also noticed that the opposite (untouched side) looks like its slightly raised a few inches from the ties, it too is on its way out. I enjoy hearing your speculations as to what may have happened. We got to explore a few of these places in closer depth, that's if I ever get a chance to get to Florida. Keep up the good work! 👍😁

I think it was an accident. Someone was hauling ass and didn’t realize the street doesn’t go through. And since this line is abandoned csx will not bother to fix it.👍🚂

was it the Hurricanes that did it? they seem to be common there at the end of the Summer going into the Fall otherwise if not I don't know but now if they plan to Revive it someone will have to let them know about this before making the Line Active again with Trains otherwise most likely Derail the Train but also Damage the Front since the Rails go up and will Damage the Front of the Train!

That’s how the rails were that were ripped up on one of the 90 degree lead track to a industry off the bergstrom spur in austin and they were all like that before they removed entirely. With the lack of grading to the track it gives me steam era vibes looking at those rails go through a neighborhood full of houses. Cool find!!!
