Yo, we NEED to talk about Zeno Robinson’s voice acting in this episode. Man deserves a damn Emmy for that panic attack alone.

Flapjack was a preexisting palisman that Hunter adopted. He has a scar, and as far as we know, palisman don’t age. I wonder if Flapjack was originally Belos’ brother’s palisman and it followed Hunter because he looked just like his old owner. It would explain why a palisman has a name that sounds like a human’s pet. And the brother did have a cardinal on his shoulder in the image.

If Belos's brother married into the Clawthorne family, then i think that would explain why Belos possibly killed him because since Belos is a witch Hunter and if his brother married a witch that would mean Belos executed him for it.

Note the phrasing of Belos's response to the Collector about enjoying destroying Grimwalkers. "It hurts every time he chooses to betray me." The way it's phrased sounds like he is refusing to take responsibility for the decisions the Grimwalkers make, and that it isn't his fault that they keep betraying him.

My favourite line of Belos was “can’t reason with crazy” the irony in that line Also I love the scene where young Belos crying turns into maniacal laughing Also Zeno’s voice acting was top tier in this episode that panic attack scene I felt that

There are two things that really stir up my emotions in this episode. 1) You can tell Hunter was basically BEGGING Belos to tell him something to make all this make sense again. The poor kid's world is shatter around him, he runs to the only 'family' he has needing something to be the same, and Belos tosses him aside not even bothering to lie. 2) The way Hunter gets rid of his cape. He looked like IT was gonna hurt him. Everything he knew and everything he was is something he now fears.

I am wholly convinced that Darius knows Hunter is a Grimwalker tbh. He was very close to the previous Golden Guard, he'd see HOW much they looked alike. Hes the head of the ABOMINATIONS coven. Grimwalkers would logically fall under abominations magic, though theoretically a lost/forbidden art. I dont think Darius would know from the very start, but I definitely think he eventually put two and two together. He knows JUST how disposable the Golden Guards REALLY are. And that could add to Darius being unable to hide his sadness in that memory. He'd know this poor kid is set up to die the second he slips up. He'd know what happened to his mentor. And that could very well be his main motivation for rebelling against Belos.

Phillip has no idea about the negative stigma around “witch hunts”. He’s bound for a rude awakening.

Also an interesting tie in that I noticed, in 'Young Blood, Old Souls', Luz fines a knife that has a blade similar to the knives that both Philip and his brother used in their duel. Theoretically, this could be the same knife that the brother owned (thus being a Wittebane family weapon) that was passed down through the Clawthorne's.

Maybe I’m not on the right forums, but I feel like nobody is commenting on how the Collector’s rhymes sound like the secret messages in each season. Which would mean that the Collector has been in the background of the entire series, a malevolent force watching from the shadows this whole time. So that’s comforting… O_O

Hollow Minds was just one big bucket of pyschological trauma, and i felt bad for both Hunter and Luz but between the two of them i felt bad for Hunter the most i mean the kid found out that his whole life is lie and that he's just a magical clone that Belos created which is why i theorize that after the whole day of unity thing is over and Belos is defeated Hunter will probably go on a journey of self discovery, and as for Luz well i don't have the words to describe how i felt about her reaction to finding out that Belos was really Philip Wittebane all along, but i felt bad for her knowing that the whole time she was an unwitting pawn in Belos's plans.

The crew worked their butts off to make that visual storytelling work and I’m so proud of them and happy to see that it’s getting the recognition it deserves :)

This changes everything I knew about The Owl House. Hollow mind is the darkest episode of the show. I never been so anxious about a cartoon character's life at stake since Callum's coma. Hunter is now in danger of being killed by Philip\Belos.

Knowing that King is a Titan, it means they have a vial of Titan Blood thanks to Hooty taking a blood sample, it also means that though King they have infinite trips from one realm to the other

its quite interesting of a dynamic seeing belos framed as a witch hunter trying to "snuff out the witch menace!" while gradually becoming the very thing people hated witches for; lying, manipulative, destructive at those around him, haphazardly meddling with peoples lives- its everything witch hunting propaganda frames witches as being and ultimately what he's become.

I think the idea of the spell to enter a person's mind is one that's a pretty dangerous and powerful but of magic to use Considering the only witch to use it with pure bile magic was Eda, and three head witches needed a glyph and potion combo to use it, it's likely that such a spell is high level at the least, and master level at best. Which does play into Eda's power, but also works in Belos' need to kill Eda, since such a powerful witch could undoubtedly do untold havoc if she got in his head

I don't think anyone has thought of the possibility that Caleb and Phillip entered at different times, Caleb entering much earlier than Phillip did, giving Phillip a reason to hate his brother/friend, a reason for him being alone when he entered, and a way for Caleb to have enough time to develop a life

the fact that he has a fake mindscape for most likely anyone that tries to enter his mind is so fucking wild.

I love how they’re showing that belos doesn’t care about Hunter (or any of the golden guards) at all anymore. Notice how he says “it hurts every time he chooses to betray me” instead of something like “every time I kill him”. Like, killing his brother isn’t painful for him, it’s the “betrayal” that hurts.

I can’t imagine what that must be like for Hunter his whole world has been pulled from right under him, his only family has been using and abusing him, and to add on it he doesn’t even know what he is, he’s lost his whole safety net, I’m looking forward to see what happens in the show

After doing some guesstimated math (not exact or finished) it seems to be impossible for Belos to raise 17 (possibly 18) Golden Guards from infancy to adolescence. A little over two hundred years doesn’t cut it especially if the last golden guard (the one before Hunter) was mentoring Darius

Ok! A few comments: 1- I love your take that Belos created the fake hall to deceive someone who entered his mind. This show he is a very smart person. 2- I agree that something is missing in the story yet. If Philip hated magic so much, why did he used gliph magic on himself, when he shows he is smart enough to craft something as strong as his staff. I feel some bigger motivation is missing. 3- In the memory the collector appears, he touches the memory trees. This makes me very concerned, because it looks like the collector is actually in Belos mind. When King lit the broken plate in Edge of the World, the titan trapper says a "connection has been made", and Kings eye glow and he reacts to the laughter, but only him. We saw Philip touch a plate just like that in Elsewhere Elsewhen. I dont want to rub off all bad things Philip did saying "he was just being controlled by the collector", but he does seem to have a bugger influence on him.

I do hope that by the end of the series that Hunter chose to go to live with Luz in the Human Realm and became like her new aptoted brother. That are he choose to stay with Eda at The Owl House taking Luz place when she go back to the Human Realm.

Imagine Philip coming back to the human world and the world finds out what he did, I don’t think he’ll be happy with how humans will react to his genocide plan of witches

Many times, especially with narcissists, after awhile, you start to, at least on a base level, believe the lies you tell. History gets rewritten in your own mind, making the lies you tell that much more believable, because in the process of trying to convince the people around you that those lies are true, you've also convinced yourself. If you really dive deeper into it, you do remember what's true, but many times it is masked with the lies you've spent years developing. It isn't how you see yourself, you know that they're lies, but the more convinced you are of your lies, the more others will be, too. Sometimes people use this purposefully, it's something even some method actors use occasionally to really deep down into their characters, and sometimes it happens accidentally, due to the fact that you've been telling the lie so passionately, and for so long. I think that's what they were trying to portray with his false mindscape. That while deep down he remembers the truth, even he believes his lies at a base level, no matter how out there they might be. Him believing those lies, while also remembering enough to know his true history and goals, makes him that much more powerful, and that much more believable to the people of the boiling isles. It's harder to be as passionate with your lies and acts as Belos is if you are fully aware that it's all fake, but if you start believing it yourself, even just a little bit, it makes convincing others that much more easy. Not to mention, and I've found this is actually very common; it makes the liar feel better about what they've done. It helps them find peace in all their lies. It's a self-defense mechanism to avoid having to confront the stuff you've done, and make yourself feel like the hero. It's a manipulative tactic used very commonly, not always consciously. It manipulates others into believing and trusting you, and it manipulates yourself into never having to change. Even people who feel no remorse can go through this for one reason or another. Based on everything we know about Belos, it seems that's what they wanted to show.

I love how it is now canonically confirmed that belos’ brother’s name is Caleb

Personally, I think Hunter might be a clone of Caleb and the witch’s son, not Caleb himself, considering how Belos calls Hunter nephew and Hunter has witches ears. Him not having magic could also be explained by this, because we don’t know if human-witch hybrids would inherit a bile sac. Now the no magic could just be part of being a grimwalker, and Belos could just be calling Hunter nephew to consolidate the age gap, but Hunter being Caleb’s son makes more sense to me.

I really hope we get a flashback episode of some sort with Philip and his brother, cause I feel we need more context as well as to actually see the scenes in the memories play out. I mean they used to be close, and yet for some reason end up separated in the isles(wouldn't they have went in together? How did they get separated? When was the portal door made? Did Philip or his brother make it?) So many freaking questions! Since unlike Unstanding Willow, we only see the pictures but not the actual scene. Also, it's worth noting that Willow remembered the day Amity unfriends her, as them hugging so perhaps something like that is also at play in the memories here too? We could also assume maybe, that Belos/Philip is repressing all his real memories and replacing them with fake ones possibly. (Maybe similar to how Omori went about it?)

They did miss one oppunity tho to throw one last punch at Luz by having belos say he was the author of azula book series

The idea that Caleb started carving palismen while Philip destroyed them is such a good one, symbolizes Philip destroying what Caleb has built in a way

I think Philip’s brother was together with that witch in the painting. I also think She is Eda’s great great grandmother. Its was Eda’s great great grandmother Who told Eda’s mom about there being a human before Luz. I think She didnt talk about Philip but his brother. It explains Why the door was burried outside they’re house

I could be wrong but i’ve noticed that in the one picture where we see Calebs eyes they’re on the boiling isles, what if calebs eye colour changed in some way and belos doesn’t remember his brothers original eye colour?

this is one of the best shows ever made. like, truly, as a lover of cartoons and magic systems, I can't ask for more. the world building is next level. it's as if everyone involved has been to the isles themselves.

I noticed that in the memory pictures involving Caleb almost all of them have tears over his face, specifically covering his ears, until the last one (ones?? I can’t remember if there was more than one lol) so I think that the background storytelling was making sure that everyone’s theories that Caleb was human weren’t confirmed until the last possible moment

Also, Luz in the in-between realm is a reflection, while the collector, while trapped somewhere, is only there as a shadow...Also Also, Luz means light and Noceda being similar to Nocturnal, meaning night. (also also also most bats and owls are nocturnal, kinda funny considering Luz her palisman will probably be a bat creature)

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?

(2:01) It IS interesting that the magic in Belos’ memory photo resembles the magic from Eda’s memory of the collector! It would also bring much satisfaction to the question of how Belos has his artificial magic, if it all ties back to the collector.

Phillip Wittebane is modeled partially after Oliver Cromwell, who also deified himself in taking over the British Isles and came to believe his own lies. He called himself the Lord Protector and claimed that his will was the Lord's will, intentionally leaving the distinction between himself and God vague (Wolfwalkers does precious little to exaggerate Cromwell's character; their only artistic license was killing him off early). Belos did the same thing when he dropped the name Phillip and adopted an old title for Babylon's highest god instead. And with his intelligence and command of magitek, he could easily make the people of the Boiling Isles believe he is divine. And he now believes that he truly is divine. If you're a good enough liar, you can even convince yourself.

when I saw baby belos I was thinking there was some hope of redemption, but no it was a trick and he's a complete monster lol.

Regarding Grimwalkers and aging, I think the little check mark near the image of an adolescent is telling us either: 1) Grimwalkers always emerge in that state of development 2) Philip has chosen to construct them at that age. An interesting addition to the latter theory is that Philip's last good memories with Caleb were presumably when they were younger, so reflecting that with the Grimwalkers' age would complement the fact that Philip has been unsuccessfully trying to rewrite Caleb's choice to embrace magic.

Okay I think this is overthinking now but what if Hunter could do magic since Darius said how the last golden guard was one of the storngest witch he had met and it could be cosible that when Belos found out he killed him, and how he was his mentor but it could be possible that Belos just made up a lie and convince him that he could not make magic since he also convince him that he found him and also the heart is a galdorstone and in the book in heart and power of course it could just mean that it powers the body but in that case could they just left it at heart and we know that there is also other forms of magic besides a witches byosac like palisman who are made form palistrom trees and we know that they can perform magic but like I said overthinking

Another thing - The parts where Phillip scratched his brother’s face is in his childhood. And the only parts show with his face is when Belos killed him for getting with a witch. He didn’t see him as his brother but rather a betrayer.

So I'm not sure if Luz would travel back to eclipse lake through time travel just for more titan blood especially given that it required a bit of Titan's blood just to power Lilith's device to find the time puddles not to mention Luz would probably not want to risk running into Belos/philip while in the past also now that King has been revealed to be a titan Luz could test to see if his blood has the same effects as the Boiling isles titan's blood.

Can you do any sport in the storm, reaching out, and Them’s the breaks kids , and Edge of the World next There are so to talk about such Hunter’s relationship with Willow and the Emerald Entrails, Luz’s dad and development that Amity has with her dad, and new glyph combos, Eda’s past when she meets Raine and the rebellion against Emperor Belos, and King being a Titan and probably the last of his kind Besides Raine, Darius and Eberwolf, and Terra which coven heads do you think are against or agree with Belos’ plain. They got to hurry since in Edge of the World episode just confirmed that they only have a week until the Day of Unity I kind want to see how Lilith interact with the other Coven Heads since she used to be in the Emperors Coven, even though Raine because the Head of Bard Coven she seems jealous or annoyed that Eda spend more time with them than her own sister back at Hexside. I don’t know about Darius since he goes to same school that Eda, Raine, and Lilith, and used to be friends with Alador and Odaila until something causes a rift between them. I hope Lilith have at less one positive relationship with a coven head they can’t be all that bad right? Eda and Lilith probably have to team up with Raine, Darius, and Eberwolf, it would be intense but the same time awkward. if Eda found out that Raine faked his brainwashing and pushed her away to keep her safe, I don’t think She would be happy it since that is the reason why they broke up and after everything that happen, not only she was so worried about them, she now has 3 kids traumatized (Luz and Hunter after what they found out in the Emperor’s mind and King found he’s a titan and his so called “real family” turn out to be a cult that worship “The Collector” and tried to kill him), lost her home to the Emperor coven and her friends, family, and everyone in the Boiling Isles are now in danger

Kind of goes into my idea that the Collector was trapped by the Titan; given the events of "Edge of the World," the Collector likely did not like Titans that much. The Titan itself likely granted Philip some glyphs but when it realized that he was wanting to commit genocide on the witches and demons living on its body, it hid them away. But with Luz, it allowed her access to ones that he could not get like the light glyph...at least until Luz accidentally showed Philip it thus making her partially to blame for Belos' rise to power.

Actually i think Caleb Wittebane is the name of Philip's brother, since it seems weird how Hunter came up with that name so easily it was like he knew about that name already The time travelling isn't needed now since we got King the Titan Also notice philip's eyes in the blade, they're blue...Oh and when Caleb's partner chases away philip she doesn't look pregnant meaning the child is already born

(spoilers ) when monster belos is coming for Hunter he says either ‘kill him’ or ‘caleb’. Hunter is also a grim walker and looks a lot like Belos’s brother (based on the memories we’ve seen) so maybe when he said (what I think was) ‘caleb’ he was calling hunter by his brothers name. This makes me believe that Hunter using the name Caleb during flyer durby was foreshadowing. Also, another thing to note, flapjack was the one who told him it and in another episode Belos and his brother we’re in a book, standong infront of a witch. On who I think was Belos’s brother there was a bird similar to flapjack which leads me to believe flapjack was previously Belos’s brother’s palisman. This sort of backs up the thought of Caleb being Belos’s borther’s name, since flapjack might’ve been his palisman. Another thing I thought about was when Monster Belos says “Caleb” right after looking at flapjack he was probably reminded of his brother, and how he ‘betrayed him’. edit: when Belos was making Hunter he probably aimed to make his golden guards look like his brother, notice how he calls him his nephew. I feel like that sort of indicates that they are from his brothers blood, or something like that. idk

Okay, here me out. Does anyone else realize how similar Phillips brother and Hunter look? My theory is maybe Phillip based the golden guards appearance off of his brother so he can feel like his brother never left. And when the golden guard goes against Belos it brings back memory’s of how his brother left/betrayed him. So he just kill them and makes a new one. But it’s just a theory🙃

I just realized that Philip was holding his own face in the memory of the Grim walker being born.

i think the fake mindscape is to do with the third theory. it's been hinted at tons throughout the season that belos has eyes everywhere so its very possible he, like hunter, heard of the plan to invade his mind (maybe even implicitly ordering hunter to put a stop to it) and prepared, of course assuming that they wouldn't fall into the true mindscape.

My guess for the Portrait of the flames is of him killing his brother and burning the body.

Two thing… 1. Is there a connection between the title “Hollow Mind” and the poem “The Hollow Men” or the 2000 horror film “Hollow man”? 2. Is Wittebane a cognate of the English word “whittle” meaning “to carve” and whose original meaning (ca. 1600) was “knife”?

And so, i think that Flapjack got his eye scar while trying to save Caleb from dying to Belos/Philip, or, when Philip/Belos started "drinking" palismen, one of his first times, he'd try drinking Flapjack, before Caleb spotting him and letting Flapjack go, as in Hollow Mind, Hunter grabs up a dead bird palisman with, guess what? A crack on it's left eye, that probably Belos drank it's magic out of it, the same eye that Flapjack had a scar. Also, i miss the Little Rascal (Flapjack).

The eclipse lake part happened before they went back to Phillip times because his nose is fine. Therefore they can't be Luz or them because they met for the first time in their first trip

I like how the show is writing Belos/Philip. He's a tragic character for sure, but it does not excuse his behaviour and ideas. Philip was given so many chances to change his ways by Luz alone, that he is not in there anymore. He reminds me of a type of Lich with his Palisman soul drinking. He needs them to preserve his form and body. I wonder if the moment he started, it was already the nail in the coffin for him as an individual. I wonder if the collector instructed him because it would be "great fun" in his/their opinion to watch.
