That's pretty wild, but what is even more wild is the fact that you're running 50 miles in a desert and you choose to wear all black.

Though it may seem counter intuitive black is one of the best colors for the desert and many desert nomadic tribes wear it. As while black absorbs heat, it also produces better convection. Studies have shown that the convection of air beneath a black robe in strong sunlight produce about as much cooling as that caused by reflecting sunlight from a white robe.

10 grams of salt for 50 miles is probably way too much. I had that much salt for my first 100 miler, and it was too much to the point I started having severe swelling. I ran my last 100 miler (rough terrain and 30k feet of vert, took almost 27 hrs) with about 5 or 6 grams of salt. You may just be a super heavy sweater, but definitely worth being careful with that much salt. All that being said, good work!

@urb4444 I really doubt you eat 15 GRAMS of salt. That is 15,000mg, or roughly 7.5x, the recommended amount for an average person.
@urb4444
@urb4444 4 ай бұрын
@@DietDrSeusswell recently ive been using more baking soda. So about a teaspoon of salt in my food, and a teaspoon of baking soda 3x a day. So around 6 grams of sodium (not counting the natural sodium found in food) so a little more than the sodium found in 15 grams of salt. According to cronometer it's 400% of RDA not 750%. Im not worried about it though, salt has a nice thermogenic effect, and recent data shows low sodium diets rly not good for long life overall. I think if you have chronic low sodium diet, increasing your intake can acutely cause some adverse reaction, but if you increased your sodium intake for a longer period your body should adjust.
@DietDrSeuss
@DietDrSeuss 4 ай бұрын
@urb4444 you do you! But I'd be careful with it. I used to scoff at people warning about sodium until I way overdid it. And I'm a relatively salty sweater and taller, so my salt needs are already a bit higher than avg. No hate or anything though, just sharing my exp

When you are losing a lot of water during physical activity, you're also losing electrolytes, including sodium. Low levels of electrolytes lead to many problems, but the most immediate and important to runners would be cramping. So for anything more than a 10k run, especially if the weather is hot, it's important to keep your electrolyte levels high enough, otherwise your legs will just give out, that's what the salt pills are for.
