If you are new here, my name is Victoria and I am a mom to a toddler and baby boy, wife to a wonderful man battling colon cancer and third grade teacher in Maine. Sorry to hear about your husband. I too am a wife, teacher with a husband who battled stage 4A colon cancer. My kids were 3 and 18 mo when he was first diagnosed. He is going on 4 years cancer free, but spent 10 years battling. Now my kiddos are 11 and 14 . God is good and healed him. Praying all well be well for you and your family too.

I loved this video last year and I love it this year (especially with your little guy). It's always fun to see what other teachers are buying for the upcoming school year. I teach TK so the things I buy may not make sense to you but I did order velcro dots. I think you can use them for stuff around your classroom. :)

Velcro dots!! I never think to use these but they are so helpful. I think I might have some stowed away in my cabinets somewhere lol. Thank you so much for the kind feedback & now I’m determined to find or buy Velcro dots!

Just got my first job out of college as a 3rd grade teacher!! I am so so so excited but also very overwhelmed. I was wondering, with all of the books I have bought/been donated, I am feeling STRESSED on making categories for my library... Any tips or tricks for categorizing books? Also, do you have any websites that are great for leveled books??

Congrats!! Welcome to the best grade!! I loved using the lessons with laughter classroom library labels. If you want to keep it simple for your first year you could separate between fiction & nonfiction, put series in bins and the others not in bins. I personally wouldn’t worry about leveling books unless your school asks you too. A lot of schools are moving away from that! But if you have to - here’s the website I used my first few years: bookwizard.scholastic.com. Good luck!!

I use crayons for regular use, but keep big buckets of markers and coloring pencils for projects. This helps streamline and also makes the other supplies extra special!

I HATE colored pencils in my classroom. Kids spend way to much time sharpening them and breaking them. Crayons are my go to (even as a high school teacher) because even if they get broken in half they can still be used. I dump about two boxes of crayons into mini tubs and have those throughout my classroom depending on what we are doing. And again, if a kid breaks a crayon, I don't care. Also target has them for 50 cents a box around back to school season, so I stock up them.

I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. I feel you about coming back from maternity leave and not really knowing what’s going on. I had an amazing sub too which was great. It’s just hard coming in and not knowing where things are 😅 He is so cute!
