It's a good thing the world has people like you Trevor to get out there and record what at the time is just ordinary everyday stuff but which now, years later is pure magical memories. This is another of your best videos. Thank you. David.

Couldn't agree more. True locos in a great time to watch trains. Those days may be gone but your videos are a great reminder of what joy railways once brought to so many.

For those who don't know: the green containers on the train hauled by 37097 contained potash bound to ICI Severnside, Bristol, for the manufacture of fertilizer. These wagons started their journey at Boulby potash mine, just outside if Staithes. This service started IIRC in May 1984, but I can't remember when in last ran. The closed containers are required because potash will absorb water and become a sticky mess that is hard to shift. Other destinations for the products of Boulby include Selby and East Anglia, but these tended to be in smaller amounts for use in the sugar industry. In such cases the containers would contain sylvanite, a mixture of potash and rock salt.

@paulanderson795 жыл бұрын
For some reason Class 31's have always seemed to attract derision. I'm not sure why, they were versatile locos and worked in multiple quite happily. Then again, I like the look of 37's but many people consider them to be absolute monstrosities.
@tomgauntlestrange4 жыл бұрын
I adore 37s. cant beat a good bit of growler Hellfire. Remember many years ago being on a old class 43 intercity bound for London just after virgin took over the west coast line. We broke down just south of crew and were rescued by a very old elderly looking class 31 still in old BR blue livery. Ive never been more thankful to a loco in my life.
