Great and possibly important footage. It was a great era for enthusiasts with such a variety of British built motive power and rolling stock. I got bored planespotting at Gatwick one day and started watching the trains. That was about 74/75. Travelled most of the country after that and saw all similar to your vids. Was lucky enough to be hauled by all the Deltics bar the two early departures of St. Paddy and Nimbus. I later found parts of these two dumped round the back during a Doncaster open day.

Amazing footage from York Trevor and great to see a short clip of a Trans-Pennine DMU of old, among all those classic diesel locos, not seen many of these on film. Regards, Jeff.

Cool video. Does anyone know of any footage of St. Paddy or Nimbus in service - the only two I missed due to being somewhat late to the party in 1979......?

One thing I remember from 1979 is that many locos including the Deltics were absolutely filthy. I think the carriage washing machine somewhere broke down and it took a long time to fix it.

This footage is priceless Trevor....How great you spent time back then Filming all these Classics... To be able to use them now is invaluable....Thanks for showing us another gem....Steve.-:)

Fantastic footage trevor. So wish all those loco hauled trains were around now. Remember watching from dringhouses yard. Was easy access and real busy :)

At 2:53 to 3:07 minutes, the Deltics passing each other are numbers 55019 and 55021. Number 19 was the only one of the class with a regimental name at the time of this footage to carry numbers at both ends of each side of the locomotive. Having been released from Doncaster Works like this on 22nd September 1976 after its Heavy General Repair. The other is definitely not 55002 as you have stated because it did not carry a regimental crest above the nameplate.

Great footage bud but I think u'll find 55002 was actually 55021 as it has the regimental crest above the nameplate, no Gateshead loco bar 55008 carried one. 😆

Done on those old 8mm cinefilm hand held konika cameras that had no soundtrack
