What I do in Antarctica is probably the most common question that I get asked. A few months ago, I answered that question when it comes to my summer at McMurdo (link below), but today, I finally look at my job here at the South Pole during the winter, which is working as a PAE Supply Technician! 🙌

I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Logistics and Supply department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!

Hey man wonderful video, I was in a similar position at Davis station for a couple of years, I visited McMurdo when they evacuated us out of Davis after the Aurora Australis went up on rocks at Mawson station in 2015, wonderful hospitality and we had a ball, hope our Aussie flag is still up in the bar near the dart board.

With regard to inventory - why do you guys not use a portable bar code scanners linked to database server? A relative of mine works in a large retail outlet and only 2 people does the entire store's inventory which they do every 2-3 weeks. They just scan everything and the software tallies everything they scan and generates a report.

Nice! I was there in summer over in 2003-04, crane operator. I had a lot of seat time and gave new station construction seat to a fellow needing more seat time. I took the science projects and other station hoisting needs which was a different shift from construction. And as I recall the tunnels, to include the old C130 crash plane in the fuselage. Yes, I and another guy from Wisconsin dug down to it, those areas were always at -60 which was crazy cold, and I'm born and raised from MN! Does the love shack still exist out a couple clicks as I recall? I was honored to get a call back from Raytheon Corp to go back the next summer over but did not except the invite as I was a father of high school age children and my attention was needed there. Although I would have so loved to go back down for another season again!

I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind. Why do the winter months have fewer people? Is it because no one wants a winter position? because resupply is virtually nonexistent in the winter and supplies would be harder to come by or just not last as long? Or the personnel just aren’t needed? My other question is what experience would one need to get a position at the South Pole or McMurdo? I have a couple years of experience with heavy equipment like single axle dump trucks, frontend loaders both fixed and articulated and various forklifts. I also have a year of experience in a receiving position. I’m also quick to pick things up. It doesn’t take long to train me. Would it be worth it for me to put in an application or do I need to gain more experience? I’m just asking because I would love to get the chance to work a winter over there.
@GoneVenturing
@GoneVenturing 4 жыл бұрын
The main reason is because most of the science and construction happens during the summer. So the winter is more for keeping things running and whatnot. This is especially true at McMurdo. And that sounds like a great amount of experience. I could imagine you applying for Waste, Supply, or Heavy Equipment with those experiences!

Hi ya. I have just got to ask you this for a bit of fun. I had a narcissist trying to convince me the Earth is flat. People who believe in a flat Earth place the Arctic at the centre and the Antarctic is the edge which is surrounded by walls of ice. If this was the case gravity would not work and you guys would be trying to hold on to stop floating off. What's your take on flat Earth philosophy? Could you take a photo of the edge? I can't seem to find any photographs of the edge online. I wonder why?.... 😆. For a laugh I am trying to organise a trip to the edge with a travel agent and organise the expedition through GoFundMe.

Good video but there is no South Pole. No compass will ever point south.

A geography lesson for you as you’ve never been to school. He is at the geographic South Pole or true south. From the Sth Pole compasses would point to the Earth’s magnetic South Pole which is about 3,000 kilometres away! 🙄

@@teeanahera8949 Don't need a lesson, I have done more years of school than most. No compass will ever point any direction but north.

@@SamPedroCactus Because if you paid any attention to the physics lessons in which magnetism was explained you would have known that magnetic fields always have a north pole and a south pole. There are no magnetic monopoles. So the magnetic needle in a compass has a south pole which will point to the Earth's magnetic north pole. And the north pole of the compass needle will point to the magnetic south pole of the Earth. This is something we learned in 6th grade. You obviously didn't, be it for being not able to understand these lessons or be it because you dropped out of school before. Besides I find it pretty funny that someone tells the video maker that Earth doesn't have a south pole under a video which is showing the south pole.

There are some! Not during that winter. But it is definitely a largely white population.

Are you guys hiring? I know a lot of unemployed Flat Earthers who don't think the South Pole even exists lol It could be doubly beneficial for them in that they could get an actual job outside of making shitty KZfaq videos AND actually learning something about the globe
