He went outside to show us the weather, but the only thing I saw was a dim light bulb. If you're goi going to show us the weather at least use appropriate lighting .😢

I check in on Amundsen-Scott every day. The coldest temp I've ever seen is -105 F from July 1st last year. We are brothers from other mothers. If I was my young self, I would find a way to get down there. "The Thing" is one of my favorite South Pole traditions. Did not know about The Shining. Wow! So cool.

Almost 50 years ago I was launching weather balloons for the Army. We had several types we launched, most were designed to reach about 50,000 feet, but there was one designed to reach 100,000 feet. I enjoyed the work, but left that to become a computer programmer.

I wish I could be part of a Winter crew. Unfortunately, I am now 70 and my best talent is staying quietly out of the way. I am sure there is a long waiting list for that kind of work. :)

I was on the crew that built dorm 208 (w/o 1988) and dorm 209 (w/o 1990). I have often wondered how the buildings were holding up. From what I can see, they still look very good. I could be the guy that built your walls and hung the Sheetrock and doors and installed the shower stall. I also worked on all 3 phases of Crary, along with a summer at Pole. Thanks for the tour. It was good to see the place again. It’s been a long time.

Do these tunnels suffer from the same encroachment/collapse that plagued Camp Century in Greenland? The ice sheet is always slowly moving even at the South Pole too right?
@teeanahera89495 ай бұрын
Yes it is. They have to replace the stake at the actual South Pole now and again. It is just visible from the building. There is a ceremonial barber’s pole with a shiny ball on top closer to Amundsen-Scott base.
