I am a veterinary technician and i typically really enjoy your videos. I was a bit rubbed wrong by your comments about veterinarians. In no way does anyone do anything for your money in this line of work. Believe me. Having said that i hope cashew is doing well. (And your Benadryl dose is very incorrect. Its a mg per pound)
@HealthNutNutrition
@HealthNutNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Renee! I did not mean to offend at all I’ve just had poor experiences in the past with situations with cashew and our old vet so I guess it’s a sensitive topic for me. I totally get what you’re saying it’s like someone saying all mechanics overcharge you. I can’t remember what I said about the dose as I was just wrapped up with making sure cashew was well when she was far from us. Apologies if i offended you that was not my intent 🤍

This is my first ever comment on a KZfaq video because that vet comment riled me up SO MUCH. Suicide rates are alarmingly high among veterinarians, and veterinarians are 2.7 times more likely than the general public to die by suicide. Not to mention the fact that they graduate from college with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt and are criminally underpaid. Most veterinarians are not in it for the money, they only do it for the love of animals. Personally, I would prefer it if my vet covered all the bases when something goes wrong with my dog, because I would expect my doctor to do the same for my human child. I don't agree with a lot of statements you make on your youtube videos, but I realize that one youtube comment from me is not going to change your mind. But making generic statements about an entire profession is extremely irresponsible for someone who has a moderately large social media following.

I actually agree with Nikole's sentiment as a pet owner for many years. It's like going to a dentist, some will tell you you need to do all this work while others won't. I've had similar experiences with the vet...one of my cats was quoted for a senior blood panel workup and she was not even a senior cat. Another time I was told I needed a bunch of different things for my cat that would make sense for an outdoor or indoor/outdoor cat, but didn't make sense for a 100% indoor cat. The most recent vet I went to was great, she was thorough and didn't try to upsell me on a lot of the stuff I get normally. Some are great and others not so much. I don't think Nikole meant any offense by her comment.
@reneegarofano3614
@reneegarofano3614 2 жыл бұрын
This is a sore topic for someone who lives this judgment everyday. We love animals. Through and through. Money has nothing to do with it. When an owner dislikes cost, it comes down to being prepared for a family member You took home. Unfortunately, everything has a cost. At the vet you see it and feel it when it hits your wallet. We are the punching bag. I mean no disrespect by speaking up. But, if the cost of your pet makes you disrespect the entirety of vet med. dont have a pet

@@reneegarofano3614 I know it is difficult to listen to this kind of demonizing, especially when it is so not deserved! Trust me, there are still some people like us who are incredibly grateful for all that you do for our fur kids and for loving them like your own. We are first time pup parents and we made a rough estimate of how much pet parenthood would cost when we rescued our baby last year. Needless to say, pet parenthood turned out to be WAY more expensive than we had anticipated. But hubs and I decided early on that we are not taking any risks with our fur child. She can’t speak to us and tell us where she is experiencing pain and discomfort, so it is our responsibility towards her to take her to an expert instead of using at home remedies, which honestly, might turn out to be dangerous. I cannot emphasize this enough, thank you so much for all that you guys do.

Please keep in mind when reading the rest of my comment: Cashew is OKAY and that is what is most important. The steps that were taken to treat her were appropriate ,obviously, since she is okay! It saved everyone (including Cashew) the stress of an ER visit, and saved money. However... It is sometimes unfortunate the mindset patterns that individuals who follow a holistic lifestyle have and then apply that to their pet. Obviously Cashew is well taken care of, her vet seems to be a good vet and is compatible with Cashew, the family, and their goals and lifestyle. It is just a little disheartening to hear that Nicole thinks that veterinarians are out to prey on pet owners. Yes, unfortunately there can be some bad doctors (just like human doctors). However, most of them actually want to help pets and better their life. When there is talk of an animal ER (aka Emergency Room) you can only expect a high bill. Why? Because it is an ER. If you as a human were to walk into a human ER even with a minor complaint like stomach pain think of the actions that follow: bloodwork, maybe some medication, maybe an IV for fluids. This might sound excessive, but do not forget that you're talking about an ER. (aka Emergency Room) If you wanted a smaller bill for something that is NOT life threatening, then you would take your pet to a GP (general practice: both traditional and holistic). (NOTE: Even if something is life threatening (ie. stroke, sudden respiratory distress) do not wait to find the closest ER if a local vet is closer to your proximity!!!!) GP's tend to start smaller in their treatments plans and be a little cheaper, because they are NOT an ER. I target price point because that seemed to be Nicole's biggest complaint was that veterinarians prey on the emotions of pet owner's to rack a big bill up. Another thing to consider (because people are surprised by this A LOT) is that pet medical expenses are just as expensive and human medical expenses! The reason why that might not be so obvious is because people who seek medical treatment are usually fortunate enough to have healthcare, in which case you might still be paying a bill, but only AFTER costs have been deducted. On top of that, you don't see every little dollar they charge, you just see the end amount. It just really makes me a little sad that individuals who follow the course of a holistic vet think that traditional vets are evil people out to make a buck on caring pet owners... I hope this does not come across as rude, or defensive. I really just wanted to defend GOOD traditional veterinaries, with good morals, ethics, and a caring heart for both animals and their humans. (Because it's not always easy). Take care everyone!
@Monotone64
@Monotone64 2 жыл бұрын
I also just want to emphasize that I am not here to offend or invalidate anyone who has truly been wronged by a veterinarian. I am so sorry for you and your pet if you were unfortunate enough to experience any form malpractice, or negligence. It really sucks, but unfortunately that does happens to people and their pets. In situations where that happens it's only natural for someone to be weary of doctors, after all I have felt the same way with my some own human doctors. Anyone who chooses to own a pet and make that pledge to take care of them until the end of their lives should feel comfortable in the hands of their veterinarian and their team.

I’ve never commented on a video before but felt the need to today. I’ve been enjoying your channel for about a year now but this is the last video I will watch. I was really hurt by your vet comment in your video. I am a veterinarian myself and can assure you none of us are trying to take advantage of our clients emotions to make more money. Please take the time to read others comments below regarding the high suicide rates in my profession and points others have made in regards to human medicine vs veterinary medicine pricing. We are all just trying to do the best for our patients.

You are one of my favourite you tubers have been for a while. I love to support a fellow Canadian. But I really don't like what you said about vets. You don't realize how much goes into the job, how mentally draining and physically demanding and draining it is. I am an RVT in Ontario and have to hear it everyday. "You don't care about the animal only money". We don't bleed you dry by "tugging on your heart strings". I get paid less than an entry level job. You don't know how much tests cost because we are in Canada and do not see bills for medical tests and procedures. We are all so burnt out and I can't stand hearing people say stuff like this. I don't know if I can watch you anymore. I can't un-hear what you said.

Hey Logan, I’m sorry if I offended you in anyway that was not my intent at all. I’ve just had a bad experience with our past vet that I think I’m just jaded a bit. I by no means meant to say that’s the case with all. In the fact the one we have now is absolutely fantastic and I’m so grateful to have him for Cashew. Once again I apologize if I upset you.

@@HealthNutNutrition Thank you for apologizing. It is a sore spot for me as I hear it daily, and I know that is it not true for a lot of vet clinics (at least the few that I have worked for) I don't normally comment on youtube videos but I just had to stick up for the good vets out there!
