That's honestly how I started. I like this song. What do i gotta do to make a sound like that? OR I liked that buildup but the drop sucked, I think a drop like THIS will be better. Then you play with a bunch of knobs, learn stuff, look up tutorial how to make similar sound, learn stuff, hopefully then apply that knowledge into making own music/ sounds

8:38 just one thing i noticed: if you look at the waveform on the original track, the bass and everything at the end of each oscillation syncs up perfectly. i'd recommend synchronizing the phase of the sub bass and the gritty reese high end by turning the random phase knob on each of the 3 oscillators (the two in that high end synth, and the one from the sine sub) to 'zero'. that's why it doesn't sound exact (example: 13:57 ) you could even go further than that by nudging the phase start points of each oscillator (using the phase knob) so that the sidechain compression from the kick TO the bass is very precisely controlled (i'm talking a few ms), so the lowest notes of the bass don't get weird phasing issues we're all familiar with when the sub from the kick kinda 'exits' the sub from the bass at the end of each sidechain. you got the busing pretty spot on though, well done :)

I've loved adopting that whole concept of things only happening once in my own music, but this video taught me I need to do it way more (like 10+ times like they did). Also goes to show just how much variation you can do to things if you keep the overall theme rather simple. Some Beethoven style thinking right there!

I’ve been a huge fan of your sound design ever since Auxy got licensing for Beats from the Bass ship 2 with Black Octopus. It’s really hard for me to find a song I don’t like every time I come across your name. Students and mentors in PDJ (including Dylan) mention you Frequently! I was sent to your Span breakdown a couple months back and between their advice and yours, I’ve learned to control the mud in my low end, AND I understand SPAN, which is an amazing tool. Now you’re doing an arrangement exercise of one of my favourite pieces of music ever. I respect all 4 artists so much, but they aren’t even close to my favourites… this song is something else, like it’s luring me from another dimension, tempting me into sonic states. I feel I have to be careful not to disappear from existence. Anyways, you’re phenomenal, you’re one of those very intuitive artists who respects music on a much more grand scale than people give it credit for. Thanks for being a sonic space adventurer exploring the soundscapes of the Ether. Travel well my friend.

what i'm taking away from your breakdown is that this track resonates with so many people because its human. Humans are inconsistent, flawed, yet the sum of our parts, our progression as a living being in the present is what matters.Such beautiful artistry in this song. I definitely feel like during the production phase not much was quantized or drawn in and they just let Noisia go ham on the drum rack lol, i bet you anything that they did a live take of each drum layer top to bottom and thats what gave it that organic yet alien sort of character.

I can't remember if ahee said this or if it came straight from skill, but he said he manually side chains certain things.. if you have the agility you can get a more realistic drum sound this way. No human hits the drum the same way every time, chaos theory tells us this. In theory, it is the way to add another human groove to the song making your ear accept it easier

I'm pretty sure the variations in the drums are kind of a product of the new chance features in Ableton 11 as these let you like easily insert a sneaky little kick (or whatever) here and there. Elphnt and Ned Rush have really great videos on this topic. By the way, your remake sounds awesome!!!

I noticed at 9:00 when you play the sub, it sounds like there's a click happening on the sidechain. I hear this too sometimes on my sidechain when the attack is too fast, is this just a computer error that doesn't get recorded on export? Always wondered if I should worry about this sound or not and end up lowering the attack to combat it, but not sure if that's the right move. EDIT: it does print like that on export, so you gotta use a workaround. either by reducing attackspeed, having the end envelope drop more gradually, or I find using the v1 compressor with the FF1 setting works if you don't have LFO tool to edit the envelope end. I actually got the idea of using this compressor from an AHEE video so not sure why he wasn't using it himself.

@@johnfire2330 Thanks that's a great idea. I tried it out and does print like that! I looked into it more on google and found a video that explains it has to do with the fast drop in volume between the end of the envelope and the quick attack of the start, so either lowing ur attack or even better having the volume drop off at the end of the envelope less abruptly (like you can do in LFOtool) fixes it.

3:31 I've had this "snare not fitting" problem. best solution I've found is to insert a new midi track and just start sythesizing a snare from scratch, right in the project so you can tweak it so it's just right. Operator, serum, sytrus (my favorite) or whatever your synth of choice is, and multiple instances in a group if needed for transient/fundamental, body, tail.
@FilthyAnimal893
