Beginner pianist discusses what he has learnt about shaping from his teacher while practising Sonatina in G by Beethoven.
This is not intended as an instructional video. The information I share here may be incomplete or even incorrect. I'm a beginner, what do I know. However, if you know even less than me you may find this interesting. If you know more, you may want to correct me. That's fine.

I agree with what you say about shaping being easier than not shaping at all. I’m beginning to naturally feel what the music wants me to do… even if later I change that choice consciously. Good work and good discoveries mate!

Thanks for the helpful advice, learned a lot from your channel again. But like what you mentioned in the video, knowing and doing is not the same, it's not easy to execute the dynamics after knowing what patterns can be applied. My hands often don't listen to me lol. Need more practice.... Thanks for sharing!

No worries. The best advice I can give you regarding 'doing' is to just practice hands alone to get the dynamics you want. If you do this enough then your hands start doing it automatically while playing hands together. That's part of the reason playing this without dynamics turned out to be harder than with. I was literally fighting my muscle memory.

Thank you! I find dynamics hard as I struggle to control the tone when playing softly and my fingers are almost too gentle on the keys, and so the tone is inconsistent.

Playing softly is tricky. I found on my teachers piano I mistake the escapement for the key bed and don’t play anything. My piano doesn’t have the same issue though.
